regarding listening to music on the echo it will play any song if you have amazon music or spotify premium. I feel that should've been explained better.
is it only me that think Google is better if you don't have smart home devices, the only down grade is its looks... and also when ut comes to playing music it wont play a sample it will plY it off youtube if is not found!
This was a fantastic review. Very professional, informative, intelligent, succinct, engaging, well shot, and elegant. I didn't think I was in the market for this type of device, but now I have to think about it. Thanks.
Absolutely and it's just the most obvious thing to understand that Google Home will improve exponentially with time considering how engaged google and its product are with our lives, particularly if you own an Android device. In just a couple of years, Google Home will kick Alexa out of competition and will be no less than a human assistant.
Just FYI since the info in this video is a bit outdated. Google Home is rolling out native support for Weemo, Belkin, Lifx, Honeywell, Wink, TP-Link, and First Alert. They already supported Nest, Samsung/Smartthings, Chromecast, Philips Hue and IFTTT. They still have some more catching up to do but the Amazon Echo has been out for 2 yrs. I'm confident more 3rd party hardware will start to support as time goes on.
Not to troubleshoot you guys, but in doing some research I discovered that you would have greater success if you had set up your accounts for the devices. An account with a Google calendar, an Amazon music account, etc would have given you better results. Great video, thanks!
This is the second comparison between these two I have watched and for sure Google home will be my wife's Christmas gift. Thanks guys great job with the review.
In my experience, I found that "hey Google" was harder to trigger than "ok Google" even though I think it feels more natural to say "hey Google." There were times when I literally had to scream Hey Google when it was somewhat loud in my house, but could say ok Google without screaming and it would trigger. Overall though, Echo's utilization of its seven far field microphones is better at detecting the trigger words.
This is great! Am perusing the options for my elderly mom who is technology phobic but supposedly wants this. Your review/comparison was the most informative I've seen! Looks like I'm going for the Google Home!
What’s funny is my moms birthday was just yesterday and watching this video my Sonos speaker with Alexa heard them ask the echo to sing happy birthday and she started singing it right when my mom walked in the room and she was so surprised and happy and thought I planned the whole thing and gave me a big hug and kissed me on my head. Haha I’m not gonna tell her what really happened, she enjoyed it so much.
I also think google home would benefit more with a name. Like Viv or Cortina for example. Part of the appeal of Alexia is that is called Alexia. It feels more like an assistant as opposed to a device.
Lol I couldn’t hear your Alexa’s responses because I was using mine to play this video and it kept responding to you guys. It even sang me happy birthday. Too funny.
I believe my account was verified on Google knol, which is a dead service now. Or that could be verified earlier than that. UA-cam shares verification information with other Google products, I think. Not sure if # of subscribers matters for the verification process.
im thinking about getting the Google for my mom, aunt and myself during xmas. But according to this it doesnt really control garages and lights. Has that changed
ETERNALICONROSS in conjunction with a smart hub like the SmartThings hub, Google Home controls every smart device in my house including doors, lights, fans, locks garage door and even dog door. It also controls the thermostat.
I had to thumb this video down as when I was watching it, Your command "Alexa, order eggs" actually ordered me eggs on my alexa which I didn't want. I found a way to turn this off.. but I now have a tray of eggs I don't need! 😂
i just got the new google home mini about 2 weeks ago, and it has A LOT of improvements from this video.. For example, there are a bunch of more customization settings, you can use google calendar with it, and it's just plain better than it was
Good luck with your home automation, because HANDS DOWN the Echo is still miles and miles better. And the new Echos are much better than in this video. Echo also better with a security system, And integrated with your TV (Amazon Fire). But hey, every time you ask Google Home about anything I am SURE the Google is Hands Down superior at sending you emails/spamming your web browser trying to sell you the product! But at least they are also recording everything you say in your house. ENJOY!
msc1963 you seem a little angry, you okay? First of all it has never spammed me with anything. Also it is just better at everything the echo does and in the future this difference in ability is just going to increase in the homes favour.
mortenmoulder Problem with IFTTT is it's yet another cloud based service that you're relying on, on top of communicating with Amazon or googles servers and then whatever the final destination is before performing your request and them kind of services get shut down and have outages.
Tim Morgan I think you sold me on the echo dot. I purchased the Google home and it's very limited at the moment. I will be moving it to the room and the echo will dominate my living room.
I prefer the design of the google one, I would swap out that grey base for a black one coz I LOVE black and white combinations!!! I'm much more on the google band wagon, i've got a nexus phone and I love that too.
Personally it is fair to compare. Amazon has been on the market for 2 years now, however, the Google team has know what the capabilities are and should of rolled out with many of that basic ones. IE: reminders should be working
Jeffrey Friedman Apple will make a product called the "Apple Core" to compete. makes sense and core is the center of it all with all the info!! lol. 😂😂
I must admit that I purchased my Alexa after watching this video. I have enjoyed it so much that I purchased 4 more. You never addressed the fact that skins can be purchased to change the look of your Alexa. Not sure if that came out after your video .... at any rate I just wanted to remind you both that I truly enjoy your UA-cam channel. Be blessed
Google's voice is just so much better. That alone would make it more worth it to me. But the features of google's offering already makes it better even outside the voice. Although, I must admit, I don't see the point still, as getting a Pixel will give you everything that google home gives you aside from the large speaker. You just say "ok google" and get the same results.
M azing keep in mind it's still in its infancy and google have said their improving it . Moreover, the code is now open sourced so people can take advantage of its features , (that's how android became so popular). Also, google home is $50 cheaper
rfrancoi If you have Spotify, IHeartRadio, etc. I don't want to mess with all that. Otherwise it gave me "samples" of songs. Sure Spotify is free but if you don't listen to mainstream music, you'll want Unlimited
Nope. Thankfully, that national nightmare is over. "On June 28, 2016, the final settlement was officially granted, as the court "hereby declares that, as of the Final Settlement Date, the Song entitled Happy Birthday to You! will be in the public domain.""
I love that you have done this review, although now it’s created more problems. Google seems a bit more capable at answering questions however Alexa has better abilities at connecting to smart devices!
Both of these products are just microphones, speakers, wifi and Bluetooth. They just send the questions to the company's cloud servers for the AI to answer. Ultimately, it's which company has the largest database to train their AI with and which company has the largest cloud server base. Not surprisingly, Google and Amazon are the world leaders in cloud servers and with databases, Google's database is mostly from their search engine while Amazon's is from it's customers shopping and viewing habits. Microsoft is also a strong contender with their Azura cloud cluster which is already backing Xbox video games. Also, there are other products that do the same thing such as Xbox and many smart TV's so a standardization issue and partnering will play a part in this market. How everyone is treating these products remind me of the time when a friend of mine asked his young child if he could take the computer away to work on, the child only saw the monitor, keyboard and mouse as being the computer so was surprised when everything stopped as soon as the PC was unplugged.
1984 didn't say anything about this. Alexa isn't big brother and we won't be persecuted for saying/doing what we want in front of it and neither does it force us to do anything.
More like Apple will come out with its own home device in 2020 and try and make it seem like the biggest deal ever. "Now, Siri is in your home. Simply say, 'Siri, what's the weather today?" and just like that, instantly you have information".
Ryan Beckham True, but I'm sure Apple wants to release their Tech being flawless, instead of rushing it to the market. Of course, I'm bias but all these companies have a similar idea. It's just the small mechanics that will make each one have its own unique characteristics. I have the Echo and it's really cool. Just my personal imput
Google's singing voice melted my heart a little bit.
Watch It Melt seriously! It was coming from the heart lol
Her voice was very surprising lol
Sup Fam23 Bru

regarding listening to music on the echo it will play any song if you have amazon music or spotify premium. I feel that should've been explained better.
Anthony Jackson I was wondering about Spotify. Thank you.
They had talked me into buying the echo however your information just help me confirm that thanks 😁
Anthony Jackson for real super biased I turn the video off when that happened so easy to explain
Anthony Jackson I
same with google, i dont have spotify premium so if i say a song name it plays a related playlist ;-;
I think saying "alexa" to ask a question works better than say "ok google" saying Alexa just rolls of the tongue better
I like Android but hate how "Ok Google" does not roll off the tongue. Good observation.
Argon you can use hey Google on the Google home, which works better but I still prefer Alexa as well.
"ok google" can be changed to whatever you want the unit to respond to.
is it only me that think Google is better if you don't have smart home devices, the only down grade is its looks... and also when ut comes to playing music it wont play a sample it will plY it off youtube if is not found!
I have noticed that as well.
LMAO!!!!!! Google was like let me show you how to sing Happy Birthday. You not about to outshine me Alexa.
Actually, the copyright claim was overturned in late 2015. Happy birthday hasn't been copyrighted now for almost 2 years.
LMAOOOO

Gabriel Moline I agree. Very good.
I honestly think that the Google Home is better in my opinion.
agron gjerasi same

Apple HomePod is gonna flop compared to these. $349 is way too much.
Apple is a follower not a leader anymore
Yeah, and it’s not like Siri is better than the others. Well, Siri is better than Alexa imo but not Google.
Google home looks like glade air freshener..
Just FYI since the info in this video is a bit outdated. Google Home is rolling out native support for Weemo, Belkin, Lifx, Honeywell, Wink, TP-Link, and First Alert. I like that picture of Aang behind them
Peaches Peached
Netflix pls continue the show
Peaches Peached what's wrong with your profile pic?
"Alexa" is more convenient to say than "Okay Google" but Google needs to improve the Google home. I think Alexa has the upper hand right now.
Ashish Mathew you can say hey Google apparently
You can also say "Hey Google"..
good to know, because 4 syllables is waaay too many for this application
i strongly disagree, although you are right, would be very annoying when you are trying to talk about all those strippers ha.
In my experience, I found that "hey Google" was harder to trigger than "ok Google" even though I think it feels more natural to say "hey Google." There were times when I literally had to scream Hey Google when it was somewhat loud in my house, but could say ok Google without screaming and it would trigger. 2:34 the couples suit each other....
They jam just alike... AWESOME
Super clean house, beautiful fun wife, crazy gaming room, dude you beat life ! Great review as usual.
Holy moly that was the best singing of Happy Birthday I have ever heard.
This is great! Am perusing the options for my elderly mom who is technology phobic but supposedly wants this. Your review/comparison was the most informative I've seen! Looks like I'm going for the Google Home!
Yall gave each other the don't turn up look lol
legrant488 😂😂😂
thanks for activating my phone a million different times
My bad bro lol
Cute and cool couple
You can say stop or shut up. She'll listen.
😂👌
"Alexa, Shut up!" LOL
I have a question, if your name is Alexa can you change the Echo's name?
Jack Murawski ah cool. Thats good to know.
What if my three kids are named Alexa, Amazon, and Echo?
2:33 was fucking adorable
Google is there any Radio Shack's open. In Modesto Turlock Riverbank?

rachels life how the fuck are we supposed to know when you are on youtube, just go to a more family friendly channel
While I was watching this video my Echo turned on and told me how to get to Best Buy!😂
Brandon Shapiro 😂😂😂 our bad!
UrAvgGF hi
Brandon Shapiro I was tossing up should I watch now near my Alexa. It kept trying to do stuff.
Google won at Happy Birthday
For sure lol
What’s funny is my moms birthday was just yesterday and watching this video my Sonos speaker with Alexa heard them ask the echo to sing happy birthday and she started singing it right when my mom walked in the room and she was so surprised and happy and thought I planned the whole thing and gave me a big hug and kissed me on my head. Haha I’m not gonna tell her what really happened, she enjoyed it so much.
Google home will win in the long run but not currently.
GH already smashes Alexa completely...
Lars Rye Jeppesen I just got Google home, it's amazing.
Echo cost $50.....at least for the Dot.
Explain. I know it's Google but if it's not as good now why would you think it would come to beat it?
Pavel Dvořák I think Home is much better already. And much more open. It doesn't lock you in to some shady music streaming service.
another fire vid add usual. I think once more developers get their hands on Google home it will give alexia a run for her money.
Bigty 76 agreed!
For sure. I'm waiting for Google Home to setup and kill it.
I also think google home would benefit more with a name. Like Viv or Cortina for example. Part of the appeal of Alexia is that is called Alexia. It feels more like an assistant as opposed to a device.
Bigty 76 GiGi, ftw.
Lol now that would work since she sings with some soul. Lol
Personally think the google home is still my favourite and still using it.
"Alexa shut up!"😂😂😂 SAVAGE!!!
xHeadlessWolf gotta let her know who's the boss 💁🏽
UrAvgGF True! LET HER KNOW!
xHeadlessWolf I literally do that all the time to my echo lol
George Bedrin 😂😂😂
Did anyone else phone go straight when he said "ok google"
Seth The
Seth The Boss hey man can you please help support me by giving me a shout out thanks man
No. Does that mean my phone is racist?
Yeah when he said "OK google" my phone searched exactly what he said
Calvin Smith problaby
Lol I couldn’t hear your Alexa’s responses because I was using mine to play this video and it kept responding to you guys. It even sang me happy birthday. Too funny.
Thanks for the cool video! I was thinking of buying one of them, and you helped me a lot.
염재현 i hope they helped you to just talk to your phone and not this junk.
PhillyDj Hook Yes and no. My phone doesn't sing happy birthday for me.
How the hell did you get verified with 2 subscribers? UA-cam is broken.
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
I believe my account was verified on Google knol, which is a dead service now. Or that could be verified earlier than that. UA-cam shares verification information with other Google products, I think. Not sure if # of subscribers matters for the verification process.
Once Google Home catches up in terms of its integrations and features, it will easily dominate Alexa.
I own both and it already does. The trick is, I have a SmartThings hub which gives both voice assistance access to all of my home automation products.
im thinking about getting the Google for my mom, aunt and myself during xmas. But according to this it doesnt really control garages and lights. Has that changed
ETERNALICONROSS in conjunction with a smart hub like the SmartThings hub, Google Home controls every smart device in my house including doors, lights, fans, locks garage door and even dog door. It also controls the thermostat.
Nitroblast Digital Amazon is still adding to Echo so I think Echo will have more things to come in the future
Nitroblast Digital ok google search tickle tickle
Damn it.. my phone keep responding to his "ok google" ... 😂😂😂😂
Lmao Google outdid Alexa in that singing!
That happy birthday stuff has me shook
You can say play it on Spotify and it’ll play the whole song
On the echo
Can any of them use UA-cam ?
Google Home can. I'm still setting up but I think I will need ChromeCast to get YT to play on my TV.
You have to understand Google Home is in it first stages or early stages.
Trust me I know. I'm banking on it to take over.
Tech4YourNeeds fok off u nerd
im guessing they released it earlier before it was "ready" so it would be available for the holidays
please be advised most of those commands can already be done with your Android.
Tech4YourNeeds they said "for now" like 50 times I'm pretty sure they understand
How can you do a Echo vs Home video and not get them arguing with each other? :D
dang, didn't expect to see you here. Love your videos!
I had to thumb this video down as when I was watching it, Your command "Alexa, order eggs" actually ordered me eggs on my alexa which I didn't want. I found a way to turn this off.. but I now have a tray of eggs I don't need! 😂
The Morris Chestnut/Sanaa Lathan bit made me smile.
Slappysan lol he did that to get back at me! #hesahater
UrAvgGF Oh, I peeped that. It's what made me smile.
Are those who these people are? It knew their birthdays? Did they have to enter that in?
no, since it's wirelessly connected to the internet, it does a very rapid web search before reporting back to you.
Awesome video! Beautiful couple and great reviews!
Hey guys... great video! It's been a year since this video was made. Has there been any improvements on Google Assistant or Alexa since?
James Peters I think so, I think that with the dot they brought some improvements and made it better
i just got the new google home mini about 2 weeks ago, and it has A LOT of improvements from this video.. For example, there are a bunch of more customization settings, you can use google calendar with it, and it's just plain better than it was
Today the google home is superior. Hands down. Reminders/setting dates works flawlessly. This video is dated.
Good luck with your home automation, because HANDS DOWN the Echo is still miles and miles better. And the new Echos are much better than in this video. Echo also better with a security system, And integrated with your TV (Amazon Fire). But hey, every time you ask Google Home about anything I am SURE the Google is Hands Down superior at sending you emails/spamming your web browser trying to sell you the product! msc1963 you seem a little angry, you okay? First of all it has never spammed me with anything. Also it is just better at everything the echo does and in the future this difference in ability is just going to increase in the homes favour.
Google Home supports IFTTT though? You can hook up A LOT of smart home devices with IFTTT. Both devices support that.
mortenmoulder Problem with IFTTT is it's yet another cloud based service that you're relying on, on top of communicating with Amazon or googles servers and then whatever the final destination is before performing your request and them kind of services get shut down and have outages.
Tim Morgan I think you sold me on the echo dot. I purchased the Google home and it's very limited at the moment. I will be moving it to the room and the echo will dominate my living room.
streetz180 Amazon echo is $140 currently because of holiday sales, much better buy than the small dot in my opinion
streetz180 Wait what? Which one to get, echo dot, the echo, or google home?
LaSombra echo
I prefer the design of the google one, I would swap out that grey base for a black one coz I LOVE black and white combinations!!! I'm much more on the google band wagon, i've got a nexus phone and I love that too.
Y'all are killing it! Love your videos
Isnt it too early to rate/compare the Google home? Or is it me.
rfrancoi I agree the echo has been in the masker for quite some time. Google will be roll updates and add all the functions for a 'smart home'
Apoorv Gahlot Less than one month, versus 2 yrs.
Well, if I was to buy one now, I'd like a comparison between the two.
Canadian Looney Yes, I would too, but what I am saying it is that the comparison is not fair at the moment.
Personally it is fair to compare. Amazon has been on the market for 2 years now, however, the Google team has know what the capabilities are and should of rolled out with many of that basic ones. IE: reminders should be working
As usual, unbiased, unlike other You Tubers..
I'm my opinion I think Google Home is better!
Don't judge me please!
Techno Play I agree Alexa voice is depressing and she dose not now anything
Amazon won.....for now.
For now, yes. But Alexa is already 2 years old. So G is at least 2 years behind and counting. I guess they will discontinue it.
Oh God I hope they don't
Did Microsoft or Apple discontinue? NO. So, the game is ON.
Rebecca McCague-Sipe
Jeffrey Friedman Apple will make a product called the "Apple Core" to compete. makes sense and core is the center of it all with all the info!! lol. 😂😂
My Amazon echo went off so many times 😂😂
Kamare Stevens oops! 🙊🙊
Editing this video was not easy for my echo lol
UrAvgGF lol. and love it vids👍👍
UrAvgConsumer lol I bet

I asked alexa how old is Morris chestnut and it said 48 and that his birthday was today on December 31st 2016.
Nice stroking Alexa at the end there dude while saying "she's gonna get it for me" LOL
i always look foward to ur vids
Thanks Deshawn!
***** you live in NJ, hey, guess what? So do I!
***** also, this is a great video so thanks for creating a lot of good content
Ok Gundam, time to destroy the two speakers beside you.
You guys did an awesome job! You helped me make my purchasing decision between Echo Dot and Google Home.
I'm still waiting for that Cortana Home!! Something similar to them lol
That'd be something lol
I ordered my Google Home 5 mins after I got done watching the Google event on October 4th I should get it on Monday
Torrey Ellison let us know how you like it!
UrAvgGF I just got mine, it's awesome, I can't wait for more support for it too.
I got one for Christmas! (Google home)
wanted a google home aftet watching this alexa seems better
M azing keep in mind it's still in its infancy and google have said their improving it . Moreover, the code is now open sourced so people can take advantage of its features , (that's how android became so popular). Also, google home is $50 cheaper
😂😂😂 my Amazon Alexa is going crazy over here 😂😂😂 listening to this video 😂😂😂😂
you ruined the home for me. i can't unsee the renuzit! XD

Geek Jump it's such a good comparison!! I love the internet lol
Damn it I missed the video. I was sucked into Death Note
Andrew Death Note 🔥
Every time*
+Andrew sorry had to delete the spoiler! Arie hasn't finished watching it yet lol #slacker
UrAvgConsumer your woman is just so WOW 😍 you're a lucky dude!
UrAvgConsumer sorry dude😂😭
This video was so hard to watch, everytime they said Alexa, my Alexa went off, everytime they said Okay Google, my phone went off. Lmao
Carmelo Nonyobuisness when ur watching videos like this just put ur alexa on mute
If you add Amazon Music Unlimited you will have tons of music available
Yeah, I geuss they had Google Play subscription on Google Home.. probably just Prime on Echo, so the Amazon selection was limited.
Google Home has UA-cam, as well as Google Play Music (and can add Spotify, etc.).
You really don't need "Unlimited" just your Prime account would satisfy most (imho).
rfrancoi If you have Spotify, IHeartRadio, etc. I don't want to mess with all that. Otherwise it gave me "samples" of songs. Sure Spotify is free but if you don't listen to mainstream music, you'll want Unlimited
Tina Miller You have a good point
Hopefully google adds more support for lights.
I'm sure they will. Just gotta give it some time.
Brandon Simmons I was able to use Google home to control my Lifx lights using IFTTT.
Ramon Rivas I figured they should have had IF support and through there pretty much anything is possible
My Google assistant on my phone kept activating and pausing this video everytime he'd say "Ok Google" 😂😂🤣🤣
off topic, she is pretty
I agree.
As a white male...she's gorgeous.
mtlnascarfan your race shouldn't matter.
Emdontplayguitar
It doesn't.
I think he meant that you didn't have to mention that "you" were white.
Just say "she's gorgeous".... That's enough
Peace
Bullraemus ty 💞 I'm a she though :D
The happy birthday song is still owed by Warner Bros. And collect
And they collect
Nope. Thankfully, that national nightmare is over.
"On June 28, 2016, the final settlement was officially granted, as the court "hereby declares that, as of the Final Settlement Date, the Song entitled Happy Birthday to You! will be in the public domain.""

Notification squad is here and like if you think ari is pretty.
Achi Ari is beautiful
Nash she just has that beauty that strikes me
If I plug in some normal LED strips into a smart plug will I then be able to use Google Home to control them
Caelum hello the post
yes. But you can't change the color. I would highly recommend Philips Hue
I use the RGB strips from.amazk
On, then get the WIFI controller and they work fine. You can control the colour and brightness too
You guys should do an update on this. I love your style!
I thought Amazon would get it but Google won just for all that soul in the birthday song
How everyone is treating these products remind me of the time when a friend of mine asked his young child if he could take the computer away to work on, the child only saw the monitor, keyboard and mouse as being the computer so was surprised when everything stopped as soon as the PC was unplugged.

you guys are the coolest and you look great together. I just got both the echo and google home to experiment myself. Thanks for the video.
This shit is what 1984 and Brave New World tried to warn us about.
1984 didn't say anything about this. Alexa isn't big brother and we won't be persecuted for saying/doing what we want in front of it and neither does it force us to do anything.
Logan Hanning, ikr.... I'm ole skool. They can have both of them.
osiris1309, not yet... but it's certainly paving the way.☺
alexa forces innocent people to go round murdering each other..... yawn.
Bezos is a Jackweed, I refuse to use his inferior products and services.
So compare a product that just hit the market on 1.0 software to a 2 year old product. Lets wait a few months and see how Google Home fairs.
Great video! After three years, Alexa is my robot friend.
Apple is probably watching these devices before it releases it's own killer version.
TQ lol. Siri is worse than cortana and google now, surprisingly.
TQ I'm an apple fanboy but Siri is so bad and limited, I have the echo and it's amazing, it can do so much
More like Apple will come out with its own home device in 2020 and try and make it seem like the biggest deal ever.
Probably Apple will have iLocks, iLights, and iThermostats, that's only compatible with it's own voice assistant.
Google homie won
SuperDinoNerd lol I like that new name
UrAvgGF lol thx
Now I'm imagining Google home with an "Obey" hat saying "Yo Dawg"a thousand times over.

Google Home is just starting and will receive many updates and featutes, it will far exceed the Alexa/Echo in no time
