This year The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the legendary songwriting partnership. In 1943, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II changed musical theatre history forever when their first collaboration, Oklahoma!, debuted on Broadway. A milestone in the development of the American musical, it also marked the beginning of the most successful partnership in Broadway musical history, and was followed by Carousel, South Pacific, The King And I, Cinderella and The Sound Of Music. Collectively, the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals have earned Tony, Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer, and Olivier Awards.

Mario brings a quiet sadness to the song, and the musicians really support that nicely. Great performance in its own right, and I'm sure Liverpool fans will love it too.

@@donnap3153 there’s a great story about how it became the anthem for Liverpool Football Club in the 1960’s when the top 10 used to be played prior to each match, and after a local group’s version (Gerry and the Pacemakers) had been in the top 10 and gone - the crowd kept singing it. Too sad 😢
Shouldn't hear the resonance of the of the lap steel guitar and arpeggiated acoustic guitar fight with the timbre of Mario's voice. I don't understand how so many these "stripped-down" covers are mixed where the instruments, mostly always guitar, fight with the vocalist in the same space on these tracks. If those two instruments would have been turned down maybe 10%, they still would have had a strong presence in the mix and not feel like they are in the same lane as the vocalist.
To each their own. I really like the way the melodies are embedded in the soundscape instead of superimposing them so all attention is drawn to the vocalist. Good compositions deserve to be heard in their entirety, not just the melodies.
@@fredtdtje the composition is wonderful. However, listen with a nice set of speakers or headphones and they end up clashing with each other and become shrill at times.
