I don’t think I’ve bought a single elf product knowing it was a dupe or with the intention of getting a dupe. I buy elf because it’s adorable, good quality and interesting for the price point
Unfortunately, elf in my country is very hard to find and it's super expensive, compared to Makeup Revolution.
Fr their primer is the best and recently converted my sister to using it. She tried it once when she ran out of hers and has used the elf one since.
In my country we don't have a choice. Besides essence and catrice, we don't have brands that offer decent palettes. Brands such as ABH exist but one palette costs someone's salary, literally.
Edit: my country has non convertible currency so we can't order internationally.
Yeah that’s what sucks! Availability is a problem
Are you from South Africa? 😅
@@MORNINGSTARTEEJ 😂😂 relatable right? 🇿🇦
Same.
I don't know how you feel about shein, but I've ordered quite a few eyeshadow palettes from them for like $7-8 and I actually love them n think the colors like the mattes and glitters stay on pretty darn good!
I have to say, I do like revolutions products, as shady as the company has been with duping, and I absolutely don’t agree with all the business decisions they’ve made, I love how affordable they are and the quality is pretty good with what I’ve tried (the eyeshadows can be hit or miss, but when they’re good, they’re GOOD). They also always have had one of the most make up heavy advent calendars I’ve come across (usually they’re full of skincare). As a student, I’d love to have an entire make up routine of high end brands, trust me, but right now that’s not realistic for me. I definitely think there are worse brands out there BUT DONT COME FOR ME PLEASE 😭
agreed! i’m also a student and in the same situation but if there’s one thing i’m enthusiastic in is making makeup as affordable as possible. if you want, i can make you a list of some of my affordable favs and comment it here
@@erinmml please do!
One of the reasons their advent calendars are so generous is because they are a fast beauty brand. They are literally up to their necks in low quality products they can’t sell. My first ever order from them 3-ish years ago, they sent me a SHIT TON of free stuff. A brush, a big ass eye shadow palette, a highlighter, another smaller eye shadow palette, and two lipsticks. I got more free stuff than I did stuff I paid for. They literally have more product than they know what to do with and it’s so wasteful.
Copying, not duping.
@@erinmml yesss 🥺
So the owner of Pink Honey said she supported Revolution so much when she was a make up artist, but they've been a copycat brand since the beginning. So you're fine to support them copying other people's hard work but now they've copied you, you're upset about it...
Hypocrisy at finest babes
I noticed that too, was wondering if maybe that was going to be covered or looked into ……
Maybe she didn't know
she said in the og videos “since when have big companies been able to do this” she clrealy didn’t know
If she was a regular consumer I could buy that she didn't know, but she was a make up artist. It's definitely possible but I find it hard to believe that she didn't notice the rip off of super popular products like kvd shade and light or the chocolate bar palettes
the other thing about elf is i’ve never seen them dupe an indie brand the way revolution will do. with elf it’s always aimed at a less affordable big brand like charlotte tilbury or abh or etc
Completely agree!
Give it 2 weeks and your skin should stop purging! Rooting for you as a retinol snob ❤
I’m seeing improvement every day now so hoping it will be fine in a week or so 💗💗
Ohhh.. I'm gonna try some retinol products ...❤
Angelika repping Charlotte Tilbury like the influencers on the Tarte Dubai trip 😭
Charlotte has my heart 🥰
Has Angelika tried Refy before lol? If not, we gotta get her onto that.
@@angelikamakeup i was hooked the 1st I heard CT say "Dah-ling". I was hooked ever since.
@@angelikamakeup same! ❤
i buy revolution sometimes because we don't have a lot of makeup brands in my country. essence, nyx and revolution started selling in my country in my late teens and everyone was so excited to have these popular foreign brands here lol
I'm 41, and all this duping and copying has been going on since before I was born. Before KVD ever had her light and shade palettes, NYC Cosmetics had palettes with similar layouts, as did Collection 2000 (before it was simply called Collection). The Manny MUA diamond cut packaging design existed in the 80s and 90s. There were even keyrings/keychain lip glosses with that exact design.
Before Revolution came along, MUA had dupes of the urban decay naked palettes, and had palettes like light and shade BEFORE KVD released hers. I'm sure if I dug around in the tray where I use old eyeshadow for art/colouring, I'd find them.
Expensive makeup brands are often created in the same factory as budgets and dupes. The only difference is the ingredients amounts of certain items.
What I have noticed is even expensive brands are using cheap ingredients, and adding in more irritants such as castor seed oil (ricinus communis oil), and also using palm oil.
I've got a mixture of budget, dupes, mid range, and expensive cosmetics. Some are great, some not so great. I still have some of the very original Tam Beauty/Revolution, and Revolution Pro palettes, and whilst I don't use them on my face because I bought them years ago, the payoff and colours are a wee bit better than some are now. It's swings and roundabouts.
Yep...
I think the main difference between a dup and a replica is that I should buy a dup for what it is, for example, a primer, and then through using it realise it behaves similarly to another product. But if you buy a product from one brand expecting it to act the way a product from another brand does, purely due to the way it looks, then there's a problem.
Agreed!
If I stayed up to date and let shady business dealings dictate my purchases, I might as well never buy a single thing ever again in my waking life, lol. So I buy whatever makeup looks good to me regardless of who made it tbh.
Same like if we look at brands that aren't "stealing", it's not like they haven't done some bizzare shit with their business or the person behind the brand is shady. It's like saying Jeffree doesn't get a pass but Kylie does because well...she's more famous and aesthetics 🗿😍🤭
It’s so difficult to keep up I don’t even blame you!
I completely agree w what u said about duping smaller brands, totally not on! I think dupes (of bigger brands) are a bit different, for example I only use cruelty free makeup so I love when a cruelty free brand dupes a product I wanted to try from a brand that tests, but I also do agree that there is a big difference between a dupe & a complete ripoff!
I think I own two products from revolution, however I do understand that they are accessible and affordable to a lot of people. Personally I prefer colourpop and they don’t really dupe while still having great formulas and prices while having well thought out collections. However, I dislike the speed in which revolution and colourpop manufacture the makeup.
Here in east southern europe there's no colourpoo
at least for me, i live in Lithuania and ordering from colourpop would be nice but that would mean that in addition to my order I would also pay the customs fee.
At least Colourpop do all their manufacturing in-house so lower carbon footprint
@@karolinapalubinskaite5218 Yeah, I believe you have to spend $100 for free international shipping with Colourpop, however sometimes they do free international shipping without spending anything so you could sign up for there email list and see. Otherwise I’m not sure but if revolution works for you that is great
I’m sorry but I can’t say I agree. Saying Elf isn’t reliant on copycat makeup is incorrect. I can name at least 10 products that have the same packaging and concept as higher end brands. Revolution is doing the same thing. When you look at the products you think of the higher end brand and that’s the point, affordable luxury. Is the quality always spot on? No. But that’s not the point or the price point would be the same. No one is calling out Tarte for outright copying the CT contour wand. That’s a bigger problem for me. Affordable brands copying higher end/luxury is just how the world works. It happens in fashion all the time and again no one bats an eyelid. That’s how trends work. We can’t be mad at brands for copying each other, that’s just how the world works. Imitation is the biggest form of flattery… Let’s just leave it at that 👍🏼
I only own one thing from Revolution x Soph collection, but I’m never buying anything else. So shadyyyy
I bought 2 things from her collection too and never again!
Their products aren’t good enough to be so confident in stealing other brand’s stuff. Nah, not today satan, not today. I only purchased from them once and was not remotely impressed so definitely won’t be supporting in the future
yeah, i feel like their palettes have very similar prices to colourpop ones, but quality and pigmentation-wise they are just not comparable
i bought one revolution palette recently, because the packaging just stunned me (forever flawless deadly desire) and i thought at least it would be a nice decor piece for my bookshelf with gothic poetry, and yeah, the pigment just isn't there and it's full of shitty satins and i just never want to use it
@@pasharighton the only product I do like is that SophX highlighter palette but that’s about it. Even then, I have so many other options that I reach for way more!
One of the first actual eyeshadow palettes I ever got was from revolution and it was AWFUL. Like I ended up throwing it out after a while bc no one would even take it from me for free
I bought several things from them and like 2 days after I placed the order I learned the shady stuff about them. I use their blush/highlighter/contour every single day but once it needs replacing, I'll be looking to another brand. Makes me sad I found the perfect shades just to find out the company is shady af.
im not a big makeup person, as in im not the sharpest when it comes to hunting for dupes and the like, but i really like elf and colourpop's highlighters. for blushes, i tend to use any of their redder shades because theyre a bit pigmented and can make me look artificially blushy since im a poc, so be wary of that. elf is a drugstore brand and you can find them in alost any target. i use their putty blush and its a favourite of mine. i dont use bronzer, but i hope this helped! i believe colourpop might be having an online sale too atm, but im not sure.
cause im not the best at spotting it, i know colourpop doesnt really dupe, and im not sure if elf does. colourpop produces a lot more than they used to, but the quality is there for the price and its super accessible.
what a stupid comment. watched one video and decided not to buy a product after that... does it work? if it doesn't for you, then it's a different story. but if it does....
Out of all the crimes that Jeffree Star committed, getting so many UA-camrs to say "component" instead of "container" is one of the worst ones... please make it stop
angelika i've been watching you for 3+ years you literally raised me from 15 to 18 like a big sister just wanted to say i love youuu ❤❤
Omg that’s crazy!! 🥺🥺 ily 💗💗
samee! i think i was 15 and now i’m almost 20.
We are getting tons of content this week ❤ you are doing amazing!!
💗💗💗 thank you
I'm less concerned about Revolution copying, it's always been an "affordable dupe" brand with hit and miss quality. What bothers me more is that high end brands steal ideas from indie/smaller brands and nobody seems to care. Hudas powder and Pat McGrath suing anyone who uses the words "fetish" "divine" or "decadence" in their products, the whole rare beauty name trademark lawsuit.
I love your deep dive videos! It gives me a lot more context into the brands that I buy and steer me away from brands that aren't ethical :)
I have a lot of revolution makeup. Yes, I know they copy other people. I do feel for the people the rip off, but the reality for me is that I was never going to be giving the og brand and product my money anyway because theyre usually extremely expensive. I also find they have good quality and their shade ranges are always amazing. Not just foundations but their powder products too.
their skincare products are absolutely awesome too! I tried others and it's just never good enough and can't compare for me...
I had no idea Makeup Revolution was so shady, that's a shame, I remember them being promoted by quite a few influencers. 🙁
Love these long videos, love listening them when travelling!
ngl i have zero knowledge about brand drama so whenever you do videos like this i'm always super interested teehee
honestly i really like Revolution, their makeup has always been really good for me and affordable. Idk if its just me but the products are really easy to work with and have a pretty good pay off.
I’m glad! ✨
Same, even if I just discovered them 3 years ago :)
The revolution micro brow pencil is elite and one of the most affordable pencils
I am pretty sure that Colourpop said that they are a fast fashion beauty brand.
Isn't it obvious without their statement too
Love seeing new videos from you! Queen Angelica strikes again
Thank you 🥰💗
I remember Elf put out a bronzer/blush duo that people started saying was like nars orgasm, it was only then that they started putting out the blush by itself in similar looking packaging.
i literally got an ad for the pillowtalk blushes before this video lmaoooo
She is POPPIN OFF w the posting this week
I’m trying 😭💗
Beautiful new blushes Angelica 😮 I’ll have to check it out ASAP and start saving up! 💋💋💯😍🥰😘
Did you use the pink or the pillow talk shade for the matte blush wands? You look gorgeous! Keep up the great videos! ☺️
Both pillow talk and pink pop x
I would love to see you do more videos like this on other brands u don’t support x
I'm loving the cozy background 😍
That blush is gorgeous ❤
I can’t wait to order when things restock. Such a cute brand and concept. Pink honey deserves all the support!!!
The products i’ve tried so far have been hits! 🥰
Love the review!
I initially bought from Makeup Revolution because they were one of the only brands putting out pressed setting powder and bronzer dark enough for dark-skinned black people circa 2018-2020. Like they were literally going to black beauty gurus YT videos and commenting there like hey we have products that might work for you. That’s how I found out about their powder. If you weren’t super into makeup then, you have no idea how ridiculously hard it was to find affordable bronzer for dark skin before 2020.
I knew and forgot about the Lunar Beauty thing but had no idea about the whole Jimi Hendrix debacle. I heard they had a CT blush wand dupe and I was gonna buy it but now CT can have my money for the glowy AND matte one. Ty Angelika
Juvia's place has so amazing products. Have a look if you haven't heard of the brand yet.
I used to buy from revolution beauty when I was at uni (mainly their eyeshadow palettes collabs with different creators). The products were affordable and, as I thought at the time, performed well. Since then I got older and wiser so I realised I don't need as many palettes as beauty gurus own, I also only need a few blushes and bronzers. I feel like revolution beauty rose to relevancy when all the beauty gurus were super popular, and they pushed and pushed and pushed new products every week, and many people (especially younger and more impressionable - including myself) had the urge to have new stuff, and lots of it.
I was aware of them stealing ideas when they first started but hearing that it’s something they’re still doing is so weak. I won’t be buying anything from them, not that I ever really did
I’m not a makeup fan but the products you used worked really well. I wonder if it would work to cover my breakouts. Love the Video content as always 😊
Been there with the retinol (tretinoin) peeling and overall hecticness 😂 you got this!!
I didn’t know about any of this. I have the corpse bride eyeshadow palette and it’s actually really good
I'm a little late but still here for the engagement!
Based on the name alone I'm intrigued, because their products have never worked too well for me personally. Idk if it's my skin or what but if they are shady anyway no point in me trying them again
I also have a lot of allergy issues with my eyes so thank you for the tip! I will try it!
So much easier on the eyes!
I buy revolution because we don’t have a lot of makeup brands in my country 😢 I am really upset by the drama but I don’t have a choice.
I just discovered and fell in love with their bronzer - RIP😭
bestie the makeup looks gorgeous!!
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
Omg I remember that with manny, i haven’t kept up on much of the beauty brands the past few years and revolution JUST showed up at my Walgreens I knew I reconfnized the name, I for the first time bought the concealer just cause I needed some and love it, finally could replace my nyx concealer (only thing light enough that I like at the drugstore until now) and just re bought it.. man how could I forget about them copying manny like that 🤦🏼♀️
I'm not defending Revolution at all, I just have a question. If Manny and his team never released the component he was going to be making then how could Revolution have stolen the idea...?
Products available for sale then they copied design probably 3d printer and then off they went
Unrelated but your lashes are gorgeous. Idk if it’s from a serum or natural but regardless, they look like natural falsies when mascara is applied. Stunning.
I really like their roll-on lip oils, that's one product I've been consistently buying and it's always worked so well!
I enjoy some Revolution products, some are holy Grail status for me. I see buying from Revolution and similar brands no different than buying the generic store brand cereal (or any food product) over the name brand. The generics rarely taste different and they often look very similar to the original. In my opinion, having your products copied/duped is simply the cost of doing business. Whether a product is copied or duped, the end result is still pretty much the same as the original so I have a hard time seeing where the distinction matters. Maybe it would be better if every brand trademarked and patented their products if they are going to take issue with copies.
I got into makeup and bought a lot of their stuff but I feel they brought out that much stuff that was cheap and it let me hoard makeup. I liked the Sophie pallets and will continue to use them and the other ones I still have but I don’t see myself ever purchasing from them again.
I'm in the same boat, honestly. These days I prefer more high end products and those Revolution palettes just sit there. I do use their foundation stick every day, though. I love those.
Yes! A new Angelina video. My day has been made lol!
Hey 💗
I totally don't want to support them ripping off other brands, but some of their collab collections are soooo good😭😭😭 and really affordable too, they're also cruelty free, which sometimes is pretty hard hard to find for a good price
How many palettes does one person need. Makeup expires, I wasted so much money on the stuff. I don’t have the time to do a full face everyday. It also looks ridiculous IRL.
I was just looking around for something to listen to while working and then I was blessed by an Angelika upload 💜
💗💗💗
Okay those CT blushes look beautiful.
I currently own their super fix setting spray, which I love. I’ve also used the XX revolution micro brow pencil, loved that as well. And one of the Tammy Clarke palettes.( Before I knew this info) But I would feel icky buying their products now.
hehe finally i can way in professionally i’m an auditor and it takes a LOT for us to just… not file our opinion on time lol. you have to have like fraud, material misstatements, control deficiencies, etc. Like we will file our opinion with that on it, but clients don’t like that and start to get reaaaal slow at giving us support we need to finish
Omg thanks for that insight!! Super interesting and shady from them 🤧
There’s so many big brands stealing ideas from smaller brands. Huda beauty did it with there powder. I don’t understand why there doing it
angelika serving another slay video
Am I the only one not seeing lists and photos pop up in the video? Would have loved those visuals!
Okay some popped up but I definitely can’t find the list of brands they own 😭
You can find it on their website on the sidebar x
@@squiishiie wouldn’t they make money with ad views? I try to be mindful of any coin I give companies - ones that blatantly copy are ones I don’t want to even give a penny to. commenting on the video gives Angelika some coin which i prefer
the only revolution thing I have is a black and white pallete that a friend left at my house and like... it works? but now I got Odens eye pallete and I just use the black there now and honestly the revolutipn one is now just there as backup or travel
I don't own anything from Revolution Beauty. Some people treat makeup like a very structured step of their routine and the products just have to serve their purpose as is. For others, makeup is... a hobby, escapism, but they can't necessarily afford that beautiful pink, heart shaped box of too faced blush or whatever it is. So if said brand manufactures very similar packaging that's more affordable, I can't see an issue. Most makeup (lipstick, blush, eyeshadow etc) could achieve the same look. But alot of that charm and satisfaction is in the packaging. Someone who can't afford cosmetics from sephora shouldn't be made to feel disenfranchised by cheap plastic.
Thank you so much for this video x I got it because it was cheaper but never again! Genuinely didn't know they were copycats
Didn't know only revolution had "copies" and never elf 😂so insanely biased and delusional 😊
@@quackitytheasker9977 especially after this video I've decided to only go with small brands or like Juvias place

Thank you 💗💗💗
It was so fun to see you talk about the makeup you were putting on today!🤍 I know you’re doing more talking videos right now (which is totally fine I really enjoy these videos!) but I am wondering if you’re going to go back to project pans and showing your favorite products or what you’re using a lot of at the moment?
I’m thinking about it definitely, it’s just not something I’m SUPER passionate about right now but maybe one day I will! x
I’m not sure if you have access to these brands in the UK: I use the byoma niacidamide serum before applying retinol, as it helps mitigate the negative effects of retinol. I also use the byoma hydrating serum in the day and evening, and the kopari ceramide lotion in the day and evening, and my skin has been able to drastically retain my moisture and there is little to no irritation
i have ALWAYS had weird vibes about them and their products, even when i was younger, no matter how cheap it is you couldn’t pay me enough to buy it
Crushing it this week!! Also, what mascara are you using, sweet pea?
Thank you! And it’s a polish brand called Wibo so not available in many places!
@@angelikamakeup we stan a polish goddess
I was tempted by cute Disney packaging at one point but never ended up buying from them. They aren’t sold in stores here and there are so many good, affordable brands that are so I always went for convenience.
One time I bought their Cinderella eyeshadow and face palette, it was so, SO horrible. One of the worst eyeshadow palettes I've ever bought. Dark colors are so patchy and hard to blend, many light colors, especially light blue, look like they don't exist on your eyes at all. Nothing better were with blushes and highlighters, they smell like LITERAL BURNT CHALK and very easy to break. The packaging was made of cheap carton. And the worst, this pallete costed more than 1200 rubles in Russia (it is more than 17$ which is kinda pricey for Russian market), you literally pay only for Disney label and for exploited nostalgia for popular cartoon film, not for quality. I threw this palette in the trash bin very quick cause it got broken.
i also have chronically dry eyes and have started using retinol more consistently recently 😭i put on like 3 different moisturizers and a ton of eyedrops every night lmao it's really a struggle right now
I’m PILING on the moisture!😭 Thick creams and oils and balms 🤧
Yay keen for another one of your videos 🥰 Xx
💗💗
The lunar beauty/manny thing def wasn’t a ‘oh we didn’t copy you’ situation, I remember the revolution products were even names similarly to mannys and it was a whole themed collection
Lovin'the content❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
💗💗💗
Im just starting the video but i do own 2 eye shadow pallettes from them and they used to be my go to for the longest time . For drugstore (thats where its sold here in canada) shadows i think they are pretty good.
I bought a highlighter from them in September and didn’t open it until about a month ago cause it’s a cream, I knew it would go off fast. I think I was sold it with busted packaging cause it was expired when I used it for the first time last month. Was super disappointed and tagged them in an Insta story, which they then saw (Insta said they saw it) and they never responded. I was so excited for that highlight and I still love the idea but am sad it expired without me using it. I have an eyeshadow stick from Rock n Roll Beauty and it is gorgeous though.
unrelated but would you ever try korean makeup? i feel like you'd like them a lot and it'd be cool to see you try them out :)
I own quite a few pallets from makeup Revolution and my skin loves it lol it’s one of the few I can only buy cuz of the prices
I was so close to buying their stuff but stopped myself cause I didnt want to spend money. So glad to see videos like this. Now I know where to spend my money on. And it's definitely not on companies that just steals from others.
The only times I really buy from Revolution is when I want to try something new with my makeup (like when I first started using bright eyeshadow I didn't want to get anything to expensive in case I never touched it again) and more recently a graphic liner pot with 2 shades of pink to try do graphic liner looks! So I suppose for beginners or for trying something you mightnt ever touch again their good?
all i can think is, that the tarte brand trip has influenced you into using all that charlotte tibery make up haha
100% i’ve been subconsciously influenced!
I've been using the revolution "conceal and contour" concealer for years. It's the only one I can use because it's got the lightest shade I can find at my drug store. And I am extremely pale. I also love the coverage because I'm very acne prone.
If I could find more affordable options that were light enough for me in my small town drugstore I'd stop using it. But as it is now Revolution is my only option.
I didn’t know they did a Jimi Hendrix collection. It almost reminds me of urban decay doing a Prince collection but at least that wasn’t icky
I've never bought from them (a) because I don't want copycat products and (b) for some reason, when I look at their foundations in particular, I just get the vibe that it would absolutely cake up my face. I've never tried it to test that theory, but I just feel it in my bones.
hey can you review the too faced concealer with huda beauty powder? its a viral combo for flawless under eyes plsss!!!
I've never used anything from the Revolution line, or any of their sub brands. I do use Elf and NYX, and a few Wet and Wild. I absolutely 💯 Elf, they create some wonderful products that work awesome! I love, love Color Pop Shadows. I'm working in 2023 to add a lot of Indie brands to my shadows! Don't know where to start! There are so many Indie brands out there!
Their cream bronzer is pretty fire honestly and I hadn't heard of this controversy until now, def shady. What do you think about Tarte duping the CT blushes/highlight wands?
I think that’s shady to mainly because they’re not that much more affordable
@@angelikamakeup it's like a ripoff but buy it for a big money too. You're right, I think it's shady for that too
I bought two palettes from the marylin monroe collection but never again bc even as I didn't know about their shadiness until now, the product quality was horrible. Colourpop is similarly priced but much more reliable imo.
I love your videos! Greetings from Germany ❤
💗💗💗
i didn’t know anything about this brand i just saw them in target and tried their foundation and really ended up liking it. anyone know a good one to use instead?
Nooo, I’m so sad. I really like their eyeshadows especially their collabs, like catwoman, Homer Simpson, and the friends. I’ll probably use it up but still 😭
Lunar beauty needs to put the highlighters back out!!! I also want more shades the formula was so good!!! 💖✨
I bought from them like once max twice ( i only remember one product) the product was a collab with someone ( idk who i just liked the colours at the time) and honestly the shimmers were ok and the matte were like eh. I wish it was better. I never used it and for real i might just use it for art cause i've had it for too long.
You're doing great love it
Thank you 💗
Why did I think you said Brest milk at first 😂😂😂instead of retinol
I started using my retinol, and my face broke out, too. I don't know if you're using tretinoin, but if not, look into retinaldehyde. It's stronger than retinol, but gentle.
Will do! Thanks 🥰🥰
@angelikamakeup I'm using the beauty of Joseon eye revival cream 1oz. I use it on my entire face because it's pretty affordable. Geek and gorgeous has some retinal products.
Well, some people don’t really have a choice, we have the more expensive brands like ABH or Too Faced, but one pallete costs half the rent :((
