Look how he handles that bridge! And this man doesn't know music? He understands music COMPLETELY. And the only celebrity I ever spoke to who remembered MY name! Such a shame you're not still here, Erroll . . .
I had the privilege to shake his late brother and only teacher Linton's hand way back in Vancouver. A chance encounter in the HSBC Hall where he would play lunchtime solo gigs, beside his regular night tenure at Rossini's. I introduced myself to the 86y old Linton, he played a few requests for me, we said goodbye, and when I returned the next day, I was greeted with a beaming : "Hello Michael!" He would meet & greet dozens of people in a day. What a memory. Sadly he passed away two years later.
Maestro Erroll must have lived in two worlds simultaneously, the 3D one and his inner musical world, where he must have been hearing & seeing music non-stop. Classic, his apparently erring & groping intros till he finds his way.
It does not get any better than this form of piano genius.Never ending embellishment made the total improvisation so good. He found notes that others would not find in two weeks. He performed solo jazz piano at my college for campus day events last century and I was in the audience. Remember that he could not vote at the time of tis performance. Compare Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson with Errol Garner. I would have wanted to speak with the audience people for I suspect that they had never heard or seen anything like this before.

As per usual, errol seems to find extra notes that other people don't have on the piano...! Brilliant!
He puts some soul on that tune, seeing joy and that ear to ear grin makes me smile.
Yeha! So do I
The extreme close-ups of his right hand really show other pianists how he did it... Very interesting!

Love his intros.

He could vote, you must not be american.
No jazz pianist comes close to him. How he enjoys playing. Very original end.
Voilà, en jouant comme ceci Garner a fait un enfant à Antonio Carlos Jobim. Et d'une manière générale à la musique..
This is great never seen it before...
Als altijd uitstekende Errol.!
Just pure magic!!
Very Nice Indeed
An amazing intro, even by Garner's great standards. What a talent.
Fabulous!
Enjoy because then I will be another ... His bass player in this video also was incredible .
Ernest McCarty on bass. Legendary guy.
