- In this Cricut Design Space tutorial, I review a number of Cricut products and teach you a trick for embossing with the Cricut Explore in Design Space using the scoring stylus that will allow you to create deep embossed designs.
For this technique, your cutting line should still be a cutting line (with the scissors), not a scoring line.

I watched video 4 times now! It’s got a lot of wonderful information in it. Probably one of the best I’ve seen yet! I was dieting to do vellum so I can cut the embossing out for cards. Omg. I’m so excited!
Thank you so much June. You're very kind!
You can also emboss just using the Cricut Explore stylus tool normally. Lay a craft foam sheet on the mat. Lay cardstock on top of the craft foam, taping the corners of the cardstock to the mat to hold it in place. For a heavier embossed look lightly dab the cardstock with a VERY LIGHTLY dampened cloth after taping it to the craft foam. Set the dial to CUSTOM choose Corkboard, Adhesive backed 1.6mm There..you are all set to go!!
YOU MUST SET YOUR IMAGE TO BE EMBOSSED TO SCORE!!!!!!!!
Yes, but you won't get a deep emboss this way because you cannot adjust the pressure in this port.
It does adjust pressure of the score tool, as well as # of scores. I am liking the craft foam material as well...with a pressure increase works just beautifully.
JUST got a new "soft" slightly textured card stock - tonight...I had to lower the pressure and # of scores as my settings were too aggressive for this stock...worked perfectly.
Mine ripped doing that.

ScrappyDIVA Crafting Tutorials , I think this is just the video I was looking for. I have an air 2 I want to emboss on vellum maybe even acetate. I love how you just showed this. If you could please let me know, you made a special material list you had. Could you please let me know what you said the vellum was and the number. I spent all afternoon trying to find someone that could show how you do this. I never thought about putting the emboss pen in the cutting slot! Thank you so much.
What is the setting for this emboss ?
I subscribed 👍🏻😉
Why do you have to put something underneath?
@@whitney24100 I explain it in the video. Imagine the result if you just place the metal on a hard surface instead of a thicker surface that gives like the faux leather.
@@SDIVADesigns i apologize. I did hear the explanation when I rewatched. Thank you for responding
Thanks for Sharing!! Your Tutorials are always Informative and Easy to Understand!
+Shay Franklin Thank you so much Shay!
OMG Your video is awesome.....Thanks for sharing your cool, clever and oh so creative ideas...definitely genius....so can't wait to get these new materials also the accessory adapter and create away. Fantastic Tutorial....you are a great teacher. YOU ROCK!!
Joan Smith
Thank you for sharing this information Karin - opens up many more doors!
Genius !!!! Bravo Karin!!
How can you do it on leather or faux leather? I love these tips. I just can’t find a good video with explore and faux leather without using vinyl or HTV. I want to emboss or deboss whichever it is. lol.
You would use the same method, but I don't think it would work well because the material won't hold the lines. Etching would work better. I have a laser so I use that on leather and faux leather.
Absolutely the tops!
yes it has been very helpful and thank you for sharing with all of us... pat
Can't please all the people all the time. I enjoyed seeing the new products. Thank you! 🙂
Sorry, I was trying to reply to diva
The description does say that I review a number of products ;)
ScrappyDIVA Crafting Tutorials I actually found you doing that very helpful
Why not just use transfer tape on your mat, peeling the liner off (it saves the hassle of applying masking tape)?
Interesting. Thanks for the video.
hi brilliant idea, thank you. got to go and try it now.
Great informative video. 💕
What if you wanted to dry emboss the faux leather itself. Would you do it the same way using the accessory adapter and the soring stylus . Would you have to layer two faux leather sheets or would one work?
That's the same thing I'm wondering will it work
Do you know if the adapter from your explore one will fit in the B side of the new explore air 2? Thanks for your help, love how it embossed on metal
yes from cricut air 1 the one in air 2 doesn't fit. do you know the settings she uses? and have you tried this on cardstock? I'm not getting it very well on card stock
Fabulous. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing!
Did you get the design to actually line up in the center? I have the explore air 2, I cannot get it to line up in the center, my print n cut is off too. I love how this machine allows us to emboss using the cricut explore air 2 using their wood grain leather to pad the metal...
I seen on your custom list that you have thin acrylic are you planning a video on that because that's what I have been looking for
merry clayton I don't see where you found the mention about thin acrylic. I do have a video that shows the Explore can easily cut acrylic up to 0.44 mm thick (which is quite thick). This means it can cut through thin acrylic even easier. My video on that is here ua-cam.com/video/9DrS_ouC-80/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for sharing! I recently purchased a Cricut Explore Air 2 and was hesitating about getting the cuttlebug to emboss, but I think it won't be necessary after all. Your video has been very useful. Will the Explore emboss a bigger and more intricate image? Thank you!
The Explore and Cuttlebug are very different. The Cuttlebug embosses using embossing folders and you can cut dies with the Cuttlebug. This is not possible with the Explore. Check out bit.ly/2q29bpf for the Cuttlebug and be sure to use discount code SCRAPPYDIVA to get free shipping and 15% off.
Thanks for shareing your great Tutorial Karen. Does the Cricut Explorer do Caligraphy ? And if so I was wondering if it can do in gold slight raised lettering like you see on commercially made cards.
Could you use thin craft foam instead of the faux leather? Thanks for the information. Do you have a video showing how to make a custom cutting file?
+jstfrmnita1 No, craft foam does not work. I have many videos on using Sure Cuts a Lot (SCAL), which is the program I often use for designing files. I have lessons as well and will be starting those back up again soon. Just subscribe to my channel and you will see my videos as I post them. There is a playlist for all my SCAL videos. My SCAL group is here facebook.com/groups/SCALusers/
+jstfrmnita1 I have used craft foam with the sizzix to emboss and it worked quite well with my home made embossing folders. So, I'm thinking maybe it would work too. I think with high pressure thin paper could rip though. I'm going to try it with craft foam and if not I'll buy a mat made for embossing and stick it on the mat.
Just an fyi mine ripped using foam
Awesome! Thank You!
Looking to make some textures to use on PMC...any suggestions? Thankss
Love cricut but their materials are soooooo expensive for anyone on a budget. Great video thanks for the idea
I don't disagree, but they do go on sale all the time and I share discount codes in my group, which can be used even when items are on sale. My group is here facebook.com/groups/luvmycricut/
Thank you for the prompt reply. Does the free shipping, and the code with the 15% off that you mention apply to canadian orders?

Would this technique work on leather? If you wet the leather a bit so it's more pliable.
I have not tried that, but you can definitely try.
I really would like to know if you have tried housing A to do the scoring and if yes, was the results as pretty as doing in through B? I have used the embossing tool on metal copper sheet and it is hardly showing up. I am so disappointed so looking for an alternative. I like the way you used the leather at the bottom but with all being said, do I have to go and get the pen adapter to make this work?
You cannot adjust the pressure of housing A. That's why I used the pen adapter in B to get a deeper emboss. Yes, you need to get the pen adapter to make this work if you want a deeper emboss.
The pen adapter in the link takes you the the adapter that comes in part a how to you get the adapter to fit in part b thanks
Is there any reason you couldn’t just put the scoring tool in the compartment that already has the attachment ?
I can, but you can't adjust the pressure in that port. The way I did it, I was able to set the pressure to what I wanted.
My daughter bought me a cricut maker and i have no idea how to use it!!! Will this work on the maker as well?
A scoring blade will be released on HSN very soon. Join my group at facebook.com/groups/cricutmaker/ for a link to the product once it is released.
What Is the original embossing material you chose that you labeled embossing with scorer
I used Cricut Vellum (mentioned at 5:17 in the video) and thin metal from 10 Seconds Studio (mentioned at 9:00).
What are those rivet things you've used? What is the name and where can they be purchased?
Can you tell me at which time in the video you see what you're interested in?
Considering a Cricut. Can you import your own images/designs/patterns, into the mobile app?
Yes! You can do a lot more when working on design space from your computer, but the app works great as a stand alone tool.
Can it embossed with uploading your own design?
Yes. For something like this, just try it and you will see if it works.
How do you create a custom setting and how do you change the pressure? I have explorer 2
Here you go ua-cam.com/video/GGx1nBLqAA0/v-deo.html
How did you create "emboss with scoring stylus'? I missing a huge piece of info here lol
It's all in the video.
@@SDIVADesigns I watched several times. Please, How did you create the special "emboss with a scoring stylus" material? Its a custom selection you say you somehow created so I cant figure out how to do that, and that part isnt in this video.
@@heatherg5447 I get what you need from me now. Sorry about that. I will make a new video to explain how I do this this morning. A lot has changed in Design Space over the years so a fresh video on this will be good.
@@SDIVADesigns thank you so much!!
hello!! what pressure did you set up when you created your custome material?
The link to that information is in the description of the video (immediately below the video).
ScrappyDIVA Crafting Tutorials really helpful thank you!! ^.^
The link in your description just leads to a foreign speaking site with nothing on it...
The link to create the "embossing with scoring tool material" does not work. If someone has this information, please share it.
Where do you see this link?
Can the Cricut scoring tip with housing do the same thing?
+Jenny Johnston No, there isn't enough pressure possible with that housing, however, the scoring function now scores deeper by doing a double pass.
+ScrappyDIVA Crafting Tutorials thank you! I'll definitely try this out
How did you make your own setting?
Click the menu on the left in Design Space to access material settings.
My accessory adapter won't fix in the slot made for the cutting blade.
+peggyswain You need the accessory adapter for the Explore One. The adapter that comes with the Explore or Explore Air (that sits in slot A) will not fit.
+Scrappy DIVA Thanks Scrappy Diva, figured that out after watching the video again. Picked up the adapter today at Joanns for 9.99 and it came with a pen. As soon as Daughter picks up Granddaughter I am going to start playing. Oh also bought some copper foil paper.
Yayyyy
Where can we getthe adapter from please?
The links are in a comment below.
Have you used this technique to emboss words?
No I haven't. Just remember to flip your image before you make it.
You are actually debossing 😂. Embossing is raising up, you are pushing down.
A machine like a Cricut can only do it this way. Once done, you flip over the material to show the embossed result.
what kind of transfer tape do you use?
