Build this project at your own risk. Gluing the butte plug is your own decision. You could tack and wax seal it as well.

Dude, you never glue in a base plug. If you get a spark in the horn it will go off like a hand grenade. You should use bee's wax and tacks or small nails. Then if you get a spark in the horn it will merely blow the base plug out and perhaps the stopper. The bee's wax seals the horn and makes it waterproof. NEVER GLUE IN A BASE PLUG! Otherwise you've made a nice powder horn. I've been shooting flintlocks for over 30 years and made my own powder horns without gluing them in. That's what the nails are for.

PLEASE remove this video. Gluing the base plug is dangerous. If the horn explodes, it will shatter if the base plug is glued. The base plug should be able to blow out on explosion, so the horn will not shatter. I don't know how I can explain this any better than I already have Jonathan McCord. PLEASE REMOVE THIS VIDEO, AS YOU MAY BE LIABLE TO PROSECUTION IF SOMEONE GETS INJURED FOLLOWING YOUR INSTRUCTIONS.
The video was made following directions sited in the description. Gluing or not gluing the plug seems to be a matter of preference. if the plug is tacked and sealed with wax it could also create a hazard. black powder in any closed containers could be dangerous if ignited. If someone were to build the powder horn like i showed and it exploded, i guess i would have to ask how they ignited the powder in the first place. If a shooter is using a flint lock then i hope they close all powder containers before they shoot. I use mine with a cap lock rifle and have had no problems.
+Jonathan McCord I agree, I commented on Mr burgesses video the same I'll say here, wax and racks will certainly hold enough pressure to long past rupture the horn, just a small amount of wax could hold past the horn rupturing. I believe the "rupture threshold" was concocted by antiglue traditionalists, in a rare instance of persons igniting their horn I am positive that the horn ruptured exactly as it would with any cap securing short of a light friction fit.
+Jonathan McCord not to mention the small bit of wood glue will hold WAY LESS then wax and tacks, without question.
You sir, are being as pretentious as traditionalists come. Your horn capping procedure could cause the same injuries, if you light a powder horn on fire you are only liable to yourself no matter how it was constructed. ALSO, people put spouts on metal cans, no wax or tacks there, but nobody should load right from can or horn anyway so the point is nil.
