This makes a lot of sense since The Thumb is heavily based on the Italian Mafia (the highest rank is called the Capo dei Capi, or Godfather, lower ranks are Capo and Sottocapo, and so on), while the Kurokumo Clan is the Yakuza, which is the Japanese Mafia. They even show some of their extorting practices in The Distortion Detective, which I recommend to give a read due to it becoming increasingly more important for the lore!
I cannot imagine (except for the Wagakki band and their songs) any other music that excellently blends traditional and modern instruments and make it sound badass.
