  • *My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
    Thanks for watching!

I spent a summer as a camp host in a similar situation to yours, also in Colorado. People who take these jobs as quick easy cash are missing the point. Yes there is a salary, but there is also the site fee that is waived. Depending on the site, $15 to $35 per night is also part of your wage. And you don't have to start at 8 a.m., or work straight through to 5 p.m. Take a break in the middle of the day and have lunch down by the river. No commute, fresh air, wild life, it's the best way of life there is!!!!

I met and started dating a camp host once it was a truly magical summer. It's a perfect balance of being in beautiful nature, helping other people out, and some humble work cleaning bathrooms. (We started watching your videos together in 2015.) It looks like a beautiful and peaceful place enjoy your summer. 🌲✨🌲

Elena and I will head your way in mid-late August. We’ve camped in two different campgrounds at Trappers several times over the last thirty years. I have a feeling that we may find no vacancy signs while you’re there. LOL!

All Camp Hosts I’ve met love to gab. As a camper, that’s great for me. Hosts are especially helpful with information.
The greatest variability I’ve seen is in the job of cleaning the pit toilets. Some hosts neglect them. Some hosts keep them sparkling clean. I admire anyone who can do this part of the job!

If you find you really like doing the more remote hosting, Nehalem Falls Campground is in the forest 10 miles from Wheeler on the Oregon Coast. Its a small campground with 15 sites and an additional 5 walk-in tent sites. Also along the Rogue River, Almeda, Galice, Indian Mary are small campgrounds mostly used for launch sites for rafters/kayakers putting onto the wild and scenic section of the Rogue. There are also some remote campgrounds that are hosted up near Mount Hood that serve mostly hikers and climbers. Hope you have a great summer.

I worked one spring/early summer for a concessionaire in California in 2018. I did office work for all of the campgrounds they managed in my area and relief hosted when needed. They broke the camel's back for me when they sent me to 3 remote campgrounds about 45 minutes apart on Memorial Day weekend with no water to clean the 8 bathrooms at one campground. The person who was supposed to bring water to me was just lazy and didn't do it. Campers were rude, peed and crapped all over the bathrooms and all I had to clean them was disinfectant and rags (which I promptly threw out when I was done cleaning). To top it off I got a tree rat in my engine that promptly chewed the vacuum hose for my air conditioning and that cost me $500 to fix. I should have never been sent by myself into this situation and I left the job shortly after the experience. Never to camp host again!
