Randy Rhoads is the reason I started playing guitar back when I was a teen in the early 80s. Diary of a Madman is a masterpiece. R.I.P. Randy Rhoads...
DOAM is a compositional masterpiece. The classical influence w/haunting melodies, eerie violin, and the crescendo/ outro harmonized chants/vocals are epic! 🦇🧛♂️🤘 RIP Randy Rhoads
He was a inspiration to so many people and he would have went on to teach music but he would never have guessed how influential he was....God bless Randy
If I'm not mistaken, Randy double and triple tracked his guitar parts to make them really stand out. How he could play these parts in triplicate as accurately as he did is nothing short of amazing. Remember, this was before Pro Tools and they were tracking to 2 inch tape.
Unless I'm also mistaken, in an interview with either Guitar Player, or Guitar for the Practicing Musician, the engineer was said to have stated that normally he could not allow for more than double because it just didn't sound nice enough. But he let Randy do it because he was not only good enough, but was often simply correct that it did sound better with the additions he suggested.
I damn near shed a tear when you started playing your guitar, the joy on your face. Takes me back to being a kid again and discovering this music. Ozzy/Randy are forever in my heart 🤟🏼
Never heard anyone else notice the mic work on his recordings are the best ever. You can hear and see his fingers. This track is exhibit A especially on the acoustic. Whoever mic’ed him, absolutely revered and purposely desired to capture every tear inducing nuance of his gift. The sheer accuracy and touch of his approach to the instrument flowed naturally from the music flooding from within the man. The recorded works of Mr. Randy Rhoads are the most human sounding captures of all the great guitarists I’ve ever heard. I strongly recommend listening to the difference with the other Mount Rushmore guitarists’ records.
Thanks for playing that classical piece before your reaction. I knew there was a classical piece that inspired Randy to compose this song, but I had never heard it before. That was really cool, I'll have to watch this quite a few more times just to check that out. The first two Ozzy albums to me are the best Ozzy albums. Randy Rhoads was a musical genius, the music he wrote and the solos he played has inspired so many people and continues to inspire people to this day. And to think he was only 25 when he lost his life in a stupid plane crash, that should have never happened! RIP...Randy Rhoads...
Always loved Ozzy's voice since I was a kid and that was a long long time ago .................I think 😁when Black Sabbath were just emerging from the smoke and smell of the Black country to let us hear this new heavy which was REAL FEKIN heavy. His voice has a very unique sound and expression.
Ozzy IS NOT Black Country. Led Zep, Judas Preist and Diamond Head are but Sabbath are Brummies, East of the M5 is Birmingham (sorry smethwick - yow aye Black cuntray!)
@@jim-stacy OK Jim.......Calm doon 😁I stand corrected, sorry. I don't know why but I thought Ozzy was from Wolverhampton. As for your comment in brackets ( Am fae Scotland so a dinny ken whit yer own aboot min!) 🙂
Another song to check out from this same album is Tonight, especially the exit solo, it's epic. You can feel the emotion Randy is putting into this solo. If your like many of his fans, the ending solo starts to fade, and as it fades you keep turning up the volume so you can hear every note before it cuts.
Hello Jone , love hearing you play too. My gosh Ozzy has been a part of my life as long as I remember the prince of darkness. 73 and still has it! Jone everyrime I hear you play,I wonder if you know Guitarist Estas Tonne and the song of the golden dragon? The street performace video. Soul music, meditation. Just amazing! Cheers
Randy wasn't a classical guitar player. But he did start getting into classical towards the end of his short life. He planned on attending UCLA to get a masters in classical.
The story about this song is that Ozzy heard Randy practicing Leo Breuer's piece and Ozzy told him to use it in the song. Randy included it under the assumption that Ozzy's management would give Breuer writing credits...but Sharon refused to do so.

Randy Rhoads is the reason I started playing guitar back when I was a teen in the early 80s. Diary of a Madman is a masterpiece.
R.I.P. Randy Rhoads...
it is indeed a masterpiece
can never get tired of this Randy Rhoades composition
I was kid that knew nothing about music when this came out, but hearing Randy in my headphones I instantly felt the power of music.
The drummer is underrated!
Great drum work!
The late, great Lee Kerslake.🫡

I appreciate hearing your classical guitar player opinion on all of these songs... Most enjoyable watching you play in this video, thank you.
The whole album is a masterpiece.

If I'm not mistaken, most guitar players from that era were able to double track, but triple tracking was unheard of until Randy Rhoads came around.
Unless I'm also mistaken, in an interview with either Guitar Player, or Guitar for the Practicing Musician, the engineer was said to have stated that normally he could not allow for more than double because it just didn't sound nice enough. Y’all are correct.
RR’s precision, attention to detail, musical maturity and compositional skill were so off the charts that everyone was gape jawed.
IMO this is one of the greatest songs ever written / composed ever... Hands down
Randy was my hero growing up. I saw him Jan 1982 and I was stunned at his guitar and presence.
Haunting guitar...😮
beautiful intro you did to this awesome song❤
I damn near shed a tear when you started playing your guitar, the joy on your face. Takes me back to being a kid again and discovering this music. Ozzy/Randy are forever in my heart 🤟🏼
Great reaction, sir! And your playing is beautiful!! 😍
Absolute Brilliance, my all time favorite!
Ozzy knocked it outta the park with this album, every single song awesome.

The time signature trickery makes me feel like I'm going crazy too!
Saw live in 81 with Randy...amazing
My favourite Blizzard song
I refer to the band as Blizzard of Ozz as well.
I refuse to give all of credit to Ozzy!
Sublime.
the best of ozzy
My favorite Randy solo is in Over the Mountain! Phenomenal chops!
It’s amazing the impact Randy has had on rock with just two albums worth of tracks. Such a shame we lost him so early.
and quiet riot which he and dubrow started
His Arpeggios Are haunting.

Never talk during someone's solo.
Randy was first and Foremost classical trained. And taught music, his nemesis Eddie Van Hallan . tells what the man is worth!
This IMO, was RR’s magnum opus.
Just imagine what he could’ve done given another 10 years.🫡
Me Too!
Sons of Apollo do an excellent cover of this with a full orchestra behind them!
I own the Vinal in 1981
Randy wasn't a classical guitar player. But he did start getting into classical towards the end of his short life. He planned on attending UCLA to get a masters in classical.
what was the name of that song you played at the beginning?? oo, found it,,, etude bruoer 6... thanks, never heard that before...
🤘😎 my favorite Ozzy song.
Followed by Shot In The Dark.
Randy wasn't real thrilled about rock or metal he reallly wanted to do classical music.😊
🌴👏👏Finally RIP 🙏🏽Randy
My favorite Ozzy,Randy colab.
Have you heard "Revolution, Mother Earth"?
The story about this song is that Ozzy heard Randy practicing Leo Breuer's piece and Ozzy told him to use it in the song.
Randy included it under the assumption that Ozzy's management would give Breuer writing credits...but Sharon refused to do so.
Well that’s not at all like Sharon is it! I’m stunned she wouldn’t give writing credit to the person actually responsible for the writing.
School is in session tho
🌴😅the whole lp is Meral masterpiece 🍒
RANDY WAS TRAINED CLASSIC STYLE
Training.....to be....
