I made this last night for dinner and we loved it! I omitted the asparagus because we don’t like it, and the celery because I was too lazy to go to the store to buy it, and subbed fresh for the canned mushrooms. This recipe is an absolute home run! My non-Keto hubby ate two bowls! We loved the flavor of the broth too. Topped with cheese and we enjoyed every spoonful. Thanks for this recipe.
Thanks Cat Mom! I happy you enjoyed it!!
I wanted more leftovers so I increased the recipe slightly and added garlic, leeks, and carrots along with 2 bay leaves. It came out so delicious! Thank you!
I made this today and it was wonderful. I used shrimp and scallops. Thanks for sharing
Just made this for the first time and it was amazing! The 2 tweaks I made was putting about 1/2 tsp crushed garlic in with butter and xanthum gum and added 1/4 tsp old bay blackened seasoning along with your spices and it was so delish! Thanks for thos wonderful recipe Papa G!
Shrimp Bisque, my morale booster in a bowl.
🦐 🧈 🍲
OMG I made this tonight for my wife and she absolutely loved it as she’s eating low carb. The only difference is that I added a chopped jalapeño cause we like some heat!! I’ll definitely be making this again.
Gonna try it out today thanks
Edit: it was really good, I added garlic to the butter (like I seen another commenter do) and a can of clams along with cauliflower rice to thicken the soup even more.
OMG🤤🤤🤤. I made this today and the best. Papa G.... you are the truth, all your low carb recipes are in my book. Now if we can get a good doughnut recipe.😉
Papa G you are the man! I just finished this recipe and good lord you know what your doing! Thank you so much for all your content!
Thank you!!
How did I miss this recipe? Here I was for months wanting to make my scallop casserole low carb and this is perfect! Thank you!
Oh my gosh you've done it again!! Thank you for sharing. I made a pot of cabbage and leek soup today but as soon as it's gone I'm trying this one. Mouth watering!
Love this! 🦐😋
Stay healthy during this terrible time, Papa G!
Thank you Connye! You as well.
Shrimp actually isn’t good for you lol ! There bottom feeders but definitely looks delicious
Thank you Papa G. Please be safe.
I am going to make this but ditching the green bell and opting for red ...and adding portobello yum !!!
I just finished my first bowl. This was Delicious. I like more spice so season to your personal taste. I used Aldi frozen seafood mix plus
8 extra large shrimp. To take up a notched before serving add one slice of Harvarti or provolone cheese, this won't change your carb count. Finally it was too thick for me added more vegetable stock. Could not find seafood stock in my area. Great Keto recipe, thank you.
Made this tonight excellent dish I hope these delicious low carb recipes helps me stick to a keto life style thank you .
Thanks Joe! Good luck!
Made this a couple of weeks ago. I’m going to have it again tonight. We loved it but left out the mushrooms. Thanks for this great recipe.
I like ! Absolutely wish I could smell it. Thank you 🇦🇺👍🏼
Looks delicious Papa G! Great recipe 🙏🏽👍🏽
Thanks CJ and Sarah! I still have that awesome cheese danish ua-cam.com/video/0ep0Nu3_XJ0/v-deo.html you made on my "to eat" list..
Will be adapting this as a sauce with scallops, shrimp and cherry tomatoes to put over my cajun pan fried Swai with asparagus on the side :). Everyone loves a spicy cream sauce
Yum! Looks delish! 💖
I must try this. Looks yummy!
I made this tonight and holy Hannan it is delicious! I had 3 bowls and was going for a fourth when I said to myself. "Steven you have to learn control. Besides, there is always tomorrow."
Oh my. This is my to do list. Thank you Papa G........
Well it turned out great. Even my burger eating, chicken nugget crusher son had two bowls at meal time.....Yummy..
You must be a mind reader, all day yesterday I was thinking about shrimp bisque! Yay me, thanks so much PaPa G!
Made it and boy was it a hit......deeeeeeelish!
Thanks for sharing this vedio. I add to my collection list of my recipes.
lol wow, my mouth is actually watering.. great recipe!!
So delicious and simple! Thank you
This has probably already been said, but DO NOT discard your asparagus ends. Those things contain loads of flavour for broths etc. Just freeze them if you can, like any other parts of vegetables you're not using in your actual recipe, like broccoli or cauliflower stems or leaves.
Good point Dan. It is more of a textural thing for me. Thanks!!
This looks fantastic! I can't wait to make it!
Another winner Glen! Why do you bake the bisque? I have never seen another bisque recipe where you put it in the oven so I am intrigued here as to why baking happens?
Hi Anita! It's just a way to keep the moisture inside. If you finished this recipe on the stove top, you'd have to add moisture as it cooked down. Plus, this way you can get out of the kitchen for 30 minutes without having to monitor the pot...lol 😀
I'm eating this now....my taste buds are happy!....
OMGosh that looks so good.
Looks delish Papa G! Where I work has shut down for the next few months so I'll have some time to try. As said below, you and your family stay safe and healthy !
You as well, my friend!
Looks amazing
Making this Bisque today. Kitchen smells fantastic can't wait to enjoy. Thanks for the great video!👍
Can’t wait to try this.
Making this recipe but definitely going to change it up a bit !
And I’m a have it cook over night in my crock pot to make it tweet super good
Very nice chef !
Looks yummy 🤤 I will definitely try this one
Crawfish are $1 a pound for a mixed bag medium/large. There's always some left over after a boil. I just figured out what I'm going to do with the extra. Thank you! Your voice is soooo soothing. If you ever venture away from cooking videos, you have a career waiting for you as a voice over artist. I could listen to you read the dictionary.
Thank Jeanine!!
Can't wait to try this. Papa G, I have shrimp that are already boiled. Can I use instead of fresh? Love your videos!
Mouthwatering 🤤 I really need a bowl of this deliciousness soup
Yummy going to make this tomorrow for dinner!
Just made this, so freaking amazing 😋
Hi Trina! Thanks! Welcome to the channel.
Delicious 😋
That looks so good 😊
I hit the 1000 like❗️ 🤗 This looks yummy.
looks soooo goood!!
I already purchased your cookbook, and we thank you. A huge favor, though: Please tell me where to find directions for putting ingredients together after watching videos? All I have come up with is watching again, pausing, typing, pausinge again, and repeat until done.
It looks great and delicious 😋
Can we use corn starch instead of xanthan ?
Thank you and God Bless you 🙏
Would there be a way to do this in a crockpot?
Had to add more broth and cream at the end as I had more of a sauce than soup, but delicioso nonetheless. Thank you!
This is delicious, I added some smoked oysters to it.
...Yeah we all need to subscribe to smell-a-vision lol; I can assure you, that I will be making this shrimp 🦐 bisque; thank you for sharing.
Do you have any recommendations if I want to replace the mushrooms with something I can’t stand mushrooms, but this looks delicious. I would like to substitute if possible.
Hi Pops, do we need baking in the end? Can i just simmer instead
This looks so good! I’m definitely making this over this weekend ;however, what can I use in place of the asparagus?
feel free to leave it out or replace it with green beans or broccoli.
Yes Lawd 😉
Don't discard vegetable trimmings! Save in a baggie on the freezer to add to your bone broth!
Why no printable recipe?
Can I fry first the shrimps instead of putting it uncooked and baking it?
Second only to Lobster Bisque ;-)
Hi Joe! Yes, one cannot go wrong with Lobster!!
Ohhh myyyyy..... 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Looks fabulous. Would bone broth be too strong for this?
should be fine.
Is there a reason you use canned mushrooms instead of fresh?
Yes. I did it just to save a step. If you want to use fresh, saute them separately in some butter until browned.
Can this be made without baking it in the oven?
would like to print - do not have computer in kitchen
Ingredients:
1-pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
12 spears fresh asparagus
8 ounces canned sliced mushrooms, drained
1 Tbs oil for sautéing
1/2 cup diced onions
1/2 cup diced celery
1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbs oil for sautéing vegetables
1 1/2 cup seafood or vegetable stock
3/4 cup heavy cream
8 Tbs unsalted butter
1 tsp xanthan gum
Seasoning Ingredients:
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp old bay
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Six servings
Per Serving:
290 calories / 23.5g fat / 4.26g net carbs / 12.57g protein
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Add seasoning ingredients to a small bowl and set aside.
Prep asparagus by cutting into half inch pieces and boiling in salted water for 5 minutes. Remove asparagus to iced water in a bowl to stop the cooking.
Using a 2-quart oven safe rimmed skillet or Dutch oven, add oil. Sauté onions, celery and bell pepper over medium high heat for about 5 to 7 minutes - or until the onions just begin to turn translucent.
Remove vegetables from pot and set aside. To the same pot, over medium heat, melt the butter. Add xanthan gum and whisk until the butter begins to brown. Add broth, cream, seasoning ingredients, bell pepper, celery and onions. Cook and stir until it begins to thicken. Stir in asparagus, mushrooms and shrimp.
Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Remove and uncover.
Ladle into a bowl and serve hot.
can you just finish cooking it on a stovetop and not the oven? thanks, Gina
yes, but stir often and you may need to add a little more stock to thin out.
@@PapaGCooking ok thanks.. love your recipes! when are you gonna show us what you look like? :)
Yummy, but no wine?
You weren't looking behind the camera. 😉
Hi,
I've noticed in most of your recipes, you use xanthan gum. Why?
Hi Lupe. In my humble opinion, it's a great low carb thickener. Most standard recipes use flour or cornstarch to thicken. While there are other low carb options like arrowroot, glucomannan powder, etc., I prefer xanthan gum. It's actually more common than one may think. Just take a look at the ingredients in in "over the counter" salad dressings or some yogurts. I hope this helps Lupe. Thanks for asking.
Papa G's Low Carb Recipes
I’ve had a time using xanthan gum. It gets gummy & clumps up into gel when I mix it. I was trying to make a low carb gravy. Is there a particular way to use it?
imahappymeme you have to make sure to ‘sprinkle’ it and not just dump it or else it clumps
@@imahappymeme it dissolves easier in fat than I'd does in water. I like to whisk it with a splash of oil in a cup before pouring it in the dish I'm cooking.
👍
Can I use fresh mushrooms ?
Yes, but cook them separately in some butter first before adding.. they'll absorb too much of the liquid if added raw.
Papa G's Low Carb Recipes I had to come back and tell you. This was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever ate. My family ate all the shrimp and kept me the veggies for the next day and was still amazing. I have everything to make another batch and that’s exactly what I’m doing!!! Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks!
Whoa, that is a lot of butter (a full stick of butter to boot).
looks like a tasty recipe, but too high in carbs for me sadly
One year later.....4.26 net carbs is too much?
@@Kat-gx3se given that "net carbs" doesn't take into account real carbs, probably.
For example it doesn't take into accounts that all the starches in the soup instantly get turned into sugar inside the body.
And having had a near fatal episode with out of control diabetes in the last year (in part because of that) I'm not risking it.
I get you... I haven't had near death experience but getting and keeping things under control is tricky, and like you, I am what some consider overly cautious. Also you are right, Net carbs don't tell the whole story. Good health to you.
This is a chowder and not a bisque. I am sure it tastes great though.
Great recipe though I will skip the mushrooms. They gag me.
