Played outdoors when I was in HS. More players on the field and more kicking. Used the soccer goal below the football posts. That was over 50 years ago.
This isn't how I play Speedball... Ours is mostly soccer, but the goalie can pick up the ball anywhere on the field, and once the ball is in the air, it's more like Rugby. The person with the ball can be tackled and when he's down, the ball goes to the other team(on the ground) at that spot.
We played a modified version with a partially deflated nerf soccer ball. So you could score by kicking a soccer goal, shooting a basket or throw a conversation. You could also pick the ball up off the ground with your feet which made it possible for you not to have to pass the ball and added another element, which was easier to do with the partially deflated ball.
our speedball is much more intense we use nets to shot in, you can throw it in like Handball or Kick it in like i socer for 2 points, and we have goalies making scoring hard, and you can shot baskets but it makes the game much less fun.
Best version of playing speedball. Combination of handball, soccer/futbol and basket all. Best sport I ever played alongside jail dodgeball. Definitely deserves a league and be part of the olympics.
OUR speedball is much much more entertaining and gets extremely rough. We play it in a big gym so there are a variant of plays available. If someone has the ball you can touch them and they have to drop it (lots of times this leads to tackling LOL). Most of the time the ball is on the ground and we play it like soccer, but if you kick it up into a teamates hands or your hands you or a teamate are available to make a touchdown or basket.

This moves soo much slower than our games
mine too we play this in our middle school and it goes so much faster
