  • 3 BANKS / 196 PATCHES for Roland SH-01a 👉www.albaecstasy.ro/roland-sh-...
I think (therefore I am!) I never used a synth that much - seven parts! - to make a One Synth Challenge episode!
What can come out of this little box, you won't believe!
And it's only day two since the S-1 arrived!
Each part is programmed (patch & sequence) and recorded one right after each other.
It took me longer to compile all the videos (almost the entire day), than to make and record the actual song!
All you hear is Roland S-1. And of course, drums from the Roland SH-4d. I could make some percussion sounds with the S-1, but I considered the track deserves some really nice drums!
Please keep in mind, if there any audio-video mismatching (especially that last lead that starts at 4:40), is because my very-very old Macbook Pro (11 yo!) can't handle very well 9 video parts and I kind of had to guess the timestamps!
    Enjoy!

More people should be doing stuff like this to showcase their synths.
    Fantastic!
I'm quickly narrowing my list down to the S-1.

Thank you for your intensive work on this video, you did a wonderful job. Tomorrow I get my Roland S-1, but I'm afraid it will take me many, many more hours to create similar sounds.

Microcosm is such a great product, the music is very inspiring and this little Roland is.....well designed, but i have too much volcas collecting dust as gear gets better but its surely worth its price. The Microcosm (here in Europe) is expensive because one would have to import it from the US by now and in my opinion there are better alternatives. But im sure it has its value once its becoming part of a good setup.

Lately I had a few offers to sell my Microcosm - but it's a keeper. And even for effects I am more inclined to use virtual effects for production reasons (much easier to do automations), it's great to already have a source - drones for example - having such an effect hardware could be a true time saviour. And as you said, it's pretty hard to get one in EU. I was lucky that Hologram sent me one!

1:41 question for you….how do you get the sequence to continue to play and you are now able to play on top of it with the keys. Is there an external device looping the beginning sequence? Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. Did you get inspired by Jarre's Oxygene? The S1 does capture its spirit well!

I have a strong background as a JMJ fan (who firstly inspired my to follow my passion for music) (besides Vangelis, Kitaro, Klaus Schulze, Edgar Froese etc), so, yes, you can find such elements in my music!

@@AlbaEcstasy Thanks for sharing about this. I am a fan of the same and have been inspired too. Jarre had a very distinctive style within the field, though all of them had their vibrational signature. I did like how you reinterpreted the Oxygene theme in the video, the softer rhythm brings out something very flowing. My music is even more drone like, but I have recently gotten an S1 that is still in the mail reaching me. I might try to encorporate this more rhythmic theme into the drone.

I use my S1 and t8 with a multi track and iv not synced them together yet I v just matches BPM and pitch so there at same speed and same key and make one track at at time then keep layering then I mix it down at the end

reminds me a bit of Tangerine Dream in the early eighties (the era with Johannes Schmoelling) 👍

❤ I love it, very bewitching....is it better than the SH-01a? easier or harder to play with? Thanks

    • @AlbaEcstasy
      @AlbaEcstasy  10 місяців тому +2

It is debatable: really depends on user’s taste and preferences. In matter of sound there’s no difference until you start to Draw and Chop on the S-1. Plus the effects and a diving menu. I found the S-1 to be more fun than the SH-01a. But, sure, you can tweak the SH-01a more easily.

      Thank you for your reply,
it helps me ☺ I hesitate but I really like the "boutique" series (already have SE-02). Thanks for your videos.

The S-1 for the extra features (and sound of course). I sold my SH-01a.

awesome jam!!! one question - how do you make individual voices of the polyphony in a step sound so different? Can you set different synth parameters to each voice, within the same step? I'm just beginning my S1 adventure and haven't found the way to do it yet..

    • @AlbaEcstasy
