  • PAPD Lt. David Lim was assigned to the K9 Unit during the time of the attacks in September 2001. On 9/11, he temporarily left his K-9 partner Sirirus in his kennel as Lim assisted with evacuations. Sirius died that day, but his legacy lives on, especially through several artifacts donated to the museum.

RIP Sirius ❤ I truly hope that they add his name to the memorial. This breaks my heart.

And they still haven't. A small city in NY called Elmira added him today actually and i believe it to be the only memorial with his name on it😔

      I agree. I think it's a real shame that they haven't

There should be an animal memorial for Sirius and other non-humans lost in 9/11. Perhaps also a memorial for all those PAT dogs and search dogs that worked during the recovery and rescue?

The author of the book "Heroes of 9/11" is Allan Zullo and the chapter about Lieutenant Lim and his K-9 partner Sirius begins on page 35. RIP Officer Sirius. 🙏

Dogs are Gods most beautiful handiwork. He instilled in them the ability to give unconditional love as He does and to Forgive as He does.

Why is Sirius still not listed with the fallen police officers, he was a K9 police officer! Where is he mentioned in the 911 museum?

I don’t mean to be rude but lim is not a great officer. You never leave your partner alone. Is like leaving your human partner alone to die. That’s just my thought

What a heartless, cruel thought to post.

Easy to say with the benefit of hindsight. But Officer Lim was doing the right thing by Sirius at the time, making sure he was safely secured during a developing and very disturbing situation and not taking him into a scenario in which he didn't need to be. Sirius was not left to die, he was left to be safe. I cannot imagine how often and how bitterly Officer Lim revisits that last parting in his mind. But it's not his fault.

You know, Braga, you ARE entitled to your thoughts, whether I disagree with them or not, but Im going to tell you my thoughts, and why I think yours are misplaced. You dont have to agree with me, but I thought you might want to know something about David Lim. Dave Lim is a close friend of mine that I've known for years. He is an absolute hero and one of the bravest, most grounded people I know. As others have said, Sirius was a bomb sniffing dog, not a search and rescue dog. He put Sirius in his cage to keep him safe. Doing that, neither he nor anyone else would have thought that Sirius would have been anything but safe in his cage. As Daves partner, Sirius would have been a hindrance regarding what had occurred, not an asset. There were no right or wrong decisions that day. There is no "play book" or protocol for an event like that. Dave and I have talked extensively about 9/11, Sirius and his experience involving rescuing the people he and the other officers were able to. His heart hurts to this day for Sirius, and the police, firefighters, and all the civilians that were unfortunate enough to have any involvement with 9/11. I worked with a clean up crew at ground zero in the weeks following 9/11. I witnessed the aftermath of what Dave had a front row seat for. If there was ever a hell on Earth, that was it. When I moved out of NY, Dave gave me one of his Port Authority uniform shoulder patches, and a gold coin that is a memorial to Sirius. I cannot put into words how honored and humbled I am to call him my friend. Dave Lim being a great officer is not even a debatable point. He is literally the finest type of officer, person, father, and friend anyone could have the honor of knowing. To me, and to so many others, David Lim is the definition of a hero.
