i wanna see you run that kind of wheel at 80 miles per hour over potholes, snow, rain, and rocks a thousand miles a month for a couple years. theres a reason theres literally the phrase "reinventing the wheel"
mecanum wheels are low efficiency, low durability, much higher chance of catastrophic failure, and their downsides WAYYYYYY outweigh the upside of being able to parallel park a little easier. they are good for certain onsite transportation applications, such as forklifts and stuff like that, but you wouldnt want a car with mecanum wheels

They had something similar in the 50's. There was a 5th wheel in the back portion of the car that pushed it up and you were able to shift your car around. Quiet nice but it was abandoned because it was expensive and not really necessary.
mecanum wheels has the disadvantage of being pretty weak and less stable to control. NASA MRV uses swerve instead of mecanum to accomplish a similar idea.
That's why it'll never be on a real car

09:06 Lego had one of these as instructions back in the early 80's, it was in a 'bumper book' of Lego Technic instructions that included a clock, and a small crane I think. Nice to see again and take me back to those carefree days of kneeling for hours/days with sore knuckles and that incessant noise of stirring Lego bits in a big bucket. I still do it 40 years later, I've just learned to sit at a table!!
The walking dog was also in that book, in an older form, but same movement
