There is way too much torque and the worm gears used here only operate one way. If you could get a motor to work on the top though, you’d send earth into another galaxy.

mecanum wheels are low efficiency, low durability, much higher chance of catastrophic failure, and their downsides WAYYYYYY outweigh the upside of being able to parallel park a little easier. they are good for certain onsite transportation applications, such as forklifts and stuff like that, but you wouldnt want a car with mecanum wheels
They had something similar in the 50's. There was a 5th wheel in the back portion of the car that pushed it up and you were able to shift your car around. Quiet nice but it was abandoned because it was expensive and not really necessary.
mecanum wheels has the disadvantage of being pretty weak and less stable to control. NASA MRV uses swerve instead of mecanum to accomplish a similar idea.
09:06 Lego had one of these as instructions back in the early 80's, it was in a 'bumper book' of Lego Technic instructions that included a clock, and a small crane I think.
