My fantasy self spends ages getting ready to look great for the day. The real me spends 5 minutes and watches other people on UA-cam spend ages getting ready and looking amazing.
Love this. Being aware of my fantasy self has really helped me to stop buying clothes I just won't wear. My fantasy self is trendsetting, edgy and fashionable, my real self values comfort above all else, so if I buy something fashionable that isn't comfortable it just hangs in my wardrobe (often with the tags on!) My fantasy self loves dresses, my real self mostly wears trousers and jeans. I still make shopping errors, but nowhere near as often.
This is a great exercise 😊 my hubby keeps complaining i have nice flattering dresses i never wear, instead i prefer more discreet ones, now i know who i was shopping for 🤓

I loved it ❤️ my imaginary self loves to wear eyeshadow: my real self is really bad at applying eye shadow, can't be bothered to make the effort to put it on, and is more than happy with only eyeliner and mascara....so I ¡finally! stopped wasting money on eyeshadow palettes 😂 regards from Spain!
My fantasy self is the same with all makeup really. I only wear it on special occasions and I have so much bright eyeshadow that it's such a waste. When I buy makeup, it's as if I think I'm gonna wear it everyday around the house and at school when I'm not gonna do that at all. I have too much makeup for someone like me. I have 29 products in total and at one time had spent £117.66 on makeup I don't wear. That's £39.22 a year for the past 3 years I've been "interested" in makeup. I get £3.00 a week so that's a lot of money to me. I make massive lists of makeup products I see online, like the look of and want to buy. I think it's because I follow a lot of beauty youtubers and makeup brands because I love to see them talk about stuff. Then it makes me want to buy stuff so I can be like them. I am trying to stop this. I don't follow as many brands as before and am watching Hannah Louise Poston, who was on a no buy year and is now on a beauty budget and trying to be a conscious consumer, as well as Hailey Evans and Kelly Gooch. Hailey is a makeup artist on a personal no buy. She does a lot of declutters and shop my stash videos. Kelly is a cruelty free UA-camr (I am cruelty free) she did a no buy a while ago. She does regular shop my stash videos and an "old palettes, new looks" series. She also does project pan every month. I think these changes are starting to help. I have a basket of products I'm trying to use up, but I'm not allowed to replace them until they're done. I am however allowed to use other things. I don't like the look of heavy makeup, so a full face to me is concealer, highlighter, eyeshadow, lipstick/gloss and sometimes blush. As I'm trying to use stuff up, I now sometimes wear makeup to school if I have time to do it. On these days I wear concealer, highlighter and lip product. I think making these changes is helping a lot
My husband definitely thinks I donate/throw away too much, but I’m also at that point where I don’t want to keep anything I don’t need. Makes it easier to clean, and a great way to stay organized. 🤗
From the first second on I thought that I looooove the lipstick on you! Keep wearing both of them at least 4 times a week and you will get used to them 🥰 Also.... great video ❤️

Wow I really needed to hear this 💖 Found you through Instagram and your nobuy page. I’m always spending on my fantasy self now that I realize it 🙈 I have stacks of books that I get excited about but reality is I never sit down and read them. My fantasy self loves cute stationery like journals, routine printables, colored pens. She takes time to do her hair and makeup everyday, I have bought so many eyeshadow palettes just because I “think” it’s versatile. Fantasy self is before everyone and is ready to go! Morning quiet time and reading done for the day.... 🙈 Reality is, I wake up at 6:30 to squeeze in a shower and get my daughter ready for school. My hair is almost always put up and I do a natural makeup look which my husband loves, he doesn’t like overly dramatic makeup looks go figure 🤷🏻♀️ I make a do list everyday so printed routines go ignored because I’m a list type person. Reading is done later if I’m lucky to find some time, I’m a stay at home mom of 3 girls (only 1 is in elementary school right now). Wow I really enjoyed this tbh! Thank you for removing the blindfolds and making me realize I’m buying more for my fantasy self than anything. One thing I have learned about myself is I prefer buying those fake glue on nails than going to an actual salon 😂 $7.99 for a set that lasts me for 2 weeks versus $38 😉
OMG, this was so relatable. Never thought there was a word for this - "fantasy self". I have collected so many peices of clothing that I never wore. But I have become quite aware of this and now I buy only clothes that fit my lifestyle. Mindful shopper 😉
Love this concept. Very accurate. I quit buying fancy dresses for the same reason. I go somewhere fancy if I’m lucky once a year. And even date nights are not so fancy. I’m on a low buy and getting ready to travel and I shop when I travel. I’m already training my self to only buy things that fit my lifestyle like the athletic gear I wear on weekends as a mom or basic color blouses for work. I’m super tempted by the new Anastasia palette 🎨 but that’s my fantasy self.y real self knows I will use it twice and go right back to my favorite nude palette because that’s where my comfort zone is. I’m never going to want a ton of color on my eye. I do love red lipstick but only on date night and travel so I need to declutter a few. No need to have 9 lol
Some of those Anastasia pallets expire in just 6 months (check the back label). This puts me off ever buying one as it’s such an unreasonably short time to use it.
I'm not sure if I have a fantasy self, which I find a bit worrying. I do have a lot of clothes and jewellery some of which I've already decluttered. In my no-buy year, I've decided to really try and wear all the things I presently own and if they don't suit me for whatever reason, then do another declutter at the end of the year. I'm one of those people who thought (past tense, lol) that the next purchase would somehow satisfy me more than anything else I already had. Of course, that was nonsense. Regarding exercise, I swim several times a week and use all my costumes apart from a red polka dot one which I keep for holidays.
Ysis this is a fabulous video. I just found your channel and subscribed so this is a late comment. You look lovely in dark lipstick! I'm 73 and live in South Africa but I still have a fantasy self that exercises every day at home. So for that I bought three pairs of trainers, dozens of leggings, a pair of blue tooth earphones and a fitbit. Then I had to buy a new laptop because my old one didn't have bluetooth and the dongle thingie didn't work. But I have yet to actually exercise. I just started my no buy at the beginning of July It's harder than I thought.
I see myself as a recovering shopaholic. After watching this I realise that although I bought too much, what I bought was always for my real life, not my fantasy self.
