(personal notes for a university project) 1. 0:00 to 4:30 -angular first theme -lyrical second theme -octotonic motive at end of 2nd theme 2. 7:55 to 9:30 (beg. of second slow section) 3. 12:01 to 14:06 and then 15:00 to 17:45 -revisits 1st mvt motives, mixes them into 3rd movement -tritone relationships
Can’t believe he composed as a 16 or 17 years old ... it btw has the same opus number as the early Strauss cello sonata seems like the number is meant for the cello
@@serafin1719Wikipedia says the sonata was composed and published in 1932, and Barber was born in 1910, so he would have been 22, not 16/17. Regardless, it's still very musically mature for a relatively very early work for Barber.
hey there, thanks for the score. the impossible piano part appeals to me and one of my cellists has the score, so we'll get to work right away on it. masterful playing my friends, DG SD CA viola, piano, organ guitar etc....
Thanks! But is it really Poltera/Stott playing? Very often those UA-cam automatically generated ads are not who's playing in your video. It would be really helpful if you named the performers in your uploads. Thanks again!

I love this sonata! Every single movement is so convincing and beautiful.. it’s rare in our repertoire to have a sonata, in which every mvt is great

It's fantastic, on the level of the ones by Rachmaninoff and Debussy

@@imdarealani Thanks for correcting me! I should have checked myself before stating wrong facts..

This Sonata has a very difficult piano part.
Not really compared to some other Cello Sonatas, more or less difficulty on syncopation with the cello

You’re right, in some cases it does not give the actual artist(s). Although in this case it does:
Cello - Christian Poltéra
Piano - Kathryn Scott
Good performance. Who's playing cello and piano? If it's you, you're quite good!
Thank you, Quincy
