I paired my pioneer 6x9s with a sub in my bedroom a long time ago with the aid of crossovers and have very good memories of their performance. I then moved them under the eaves in my backyard. I sure enjoyed them and never felt like was missing anything. And for the money, I don't understand why more people don't use these around the house. When paired with a 10 or 12" powered sub, I was always extremely happy. So versatile and relatively inexpensive.
Nice. I bought kenwoods 6"9s and it sounded great. Later in my life... I bought pioneers. On 2 occasions. Completely different sets. Did not find that clarity. Just thought it was my memory. 6 months later... and I buy kenwoods for the other car. That is when I heard the difference. Even tried disconnecting the pjoneer and just plugging in the kenwood. Did not change the settings on the amp. And the clarity on the kenwood was so much greater... i threw out the pioneers. The thing is, when you have pioneers only... you will not have a problem... as there is nothing to compare it with. You feel it is great. Until ypu find a kenwood and you compare them. You cannot believe the difference.
I think more people don’t use them because of lack of knowledge to set it up right. They’d rather have plug and play. Also I think different speakers reproduce different frequencies at different SPL levels. Pioneer vs Kenwood, one sounding better than the other, it’s gonna be completely user preference there. The type of music played, and the type of sound one wants to hear in it. More bass, more vocals, more clarity. One speaker may do better than the other in one or more of these areas. Even the quality of the the install can affect these things. Based on that, there is not a “one is better than the other” answer that works for everyone all the time. All that said, I also think the Kicker sounded much better here than the Pioneer did.
Of course to any person who just wants loud music goes for kicker 😂 sounds like it’s I a bucket lmaoo Pioneer is super crisp and studio sound. Makes you feel like you’re in it rather than being in front of it…
Pioneer sound more natural and pleasant, the Kicker sound more brighter but sometime can feel a bit harsh. maybe it's good when you drive and have environment and wind noise
The pioneer sounds cleaner and tighter. Kicker sounds like it would be great for someone who likes heavy sub bass sounding music. Iv always been a pioneer fan and am on the fence with which one to get.
Jbl speakers has always harsh tweeters and too much unbalanced mids to make it sound very loud. Most people dont like that, The pioneers has a very smooth balanced sound quality.
I like the Pioneer better than Kicker. Pioneer has richer and natural sound specially the tweeters. Less bass but still sound great.. The Kicker on the other hand is louder and has more bass but sounds a little bit distorted. Its tweeter also sounds lower than the Pioneer's.. Pioener deserves a WIN for this.
The Pioneer has less bass, because its A-series speaker. Pioneer makes these for playing with a subwoofer its not a full range speaker. Other than that the Pioneer sound quality is lot better than kicker or Infinity's.
I have a set of both of these speakers. The kickers seamed to be very crisp on the highs and louder on the same wattage. But one of the kickers started making a scratching sound only a month or two after playing them just from head unit power. The pioneers are still going strong after a couple years. Maybe I just had a lemon.
Thanks for this video. Im redoing my speakers in my older neon. And its funny, these were the 2 series i was down to. Wasnt trying to break the bank. Kicker sounds like what i want. And @2:53...i need more of that tune!!

Rush- Temple of Syrinks , Good test for those highs with Geddy. Sammy Hagar- Mas Tequila, good Bass test. Some modern heavy metal, Band Maid - Freedom, all around good musicianship.
Totally agree this music made by keyboards and drum machines are not good sounding nor good for comparisons. Stuff recorded in the 80’s with analog tape is warm and they used real instruments back then.
I agree with you 1000% if you want to test a speaker for all around sound my go to is VANHALEN HOT FOR TEACHER. No better test for fast clear bass mids highs. That’s the kinda music u need to really tell a diff in sound quality.

You need to turn your amps gain down. I had this exact issue with mine and thought I just got a dud pair which you know it happens I thought okay whatever I just need to return them and get a new pair oh well shit happens no biggie. Nope, took them to the store and the guy working in the auto care area hooked them up to his test bench he had in his backroom and he said they sounded perfectly fine. I told him they sound distorted at high volume(7/10 max volume roughly) and he showed me to turn the gain down on my amp and it instantly fixed it. I ended up buying a different amp as the one I had at the time, pioneer 500 watt, didn't have that exact dial it had something similar to it but didn't offer the actual dial it was just a switch. Purchased the one he had hooked up to his test bench and he even helped me wire it and dial it in since he said he didn't have shit else to do and had 30 minutes to kill before clicking out and yah dude it instantly fixed it. Been using them ever since. Pioneer 450 watt 6x9's. Sorry for the story time but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible for you.
I think Kickers had lower bass and more pronounced treble. Sort of scooped in the mids. However the Pioneers sounded balanced and musical to me. Not as “harsh “. I think I prefer Pioneer.
Hey not sure if you have ever seen T nuts but they would work great. You would not have to worry about the wood on the box getting tore up. You could use a actual bolt for mounting your speakers instead of wood screws.
It's hard to tell from the fact it's re-recorded. It sounds to me like the pioneer compresses the sound a bit to fake a fuller sound. Lots of stuff I'm hearing there I can't hear from the kicker. The kicker seems louder and maybe the bass is picking up lower frequencies. And that's why the guy says it's more powerful and shaking the table but the pioneer makes louder bass in the video. It's hard for me because the kicker seems a little punchier and the pioneer seems unchararistically a little muddy even though it's getting more detail. I'm looking for something bassy to throw in the back under the rear window so I think the pioneer is good for me. The glass should help the other frequencies match that seemingly more detailed bass
