TBH some of the poses that you made were so amazing. Those poses actually made the figure look amazing. Still purchasing this because I'm a die hard fan of Shin Godzilla.
This video is yet another example of why you're my favorite reviewer. Even in circumstances where I feel you could mindlessly rage, you remain composed and constructive without kissing ass. I find quality difficult to find in any review community. I'm still waiting for my Shin to come in sometime this week. I was deathly afraid of getting "rednecked "but after seeing so many, especially in this review, I'm coming to terms with your saying, "it is what it is". The release of this figure is a messy one no matter how one puts it.. Anyhow, correct me if I'm wrong.. but that flame effect in the rather dark beginning pic is from SHMA Gamera right? Because if so then I will have to step up my game and hunt a somewhat affordable Gamera.

Oy Vey XD Definitely a figure that commissioned model painters are gonna love. I do agree that we should have gotten at the very least a clean split jaw interchangeable part at the very least. If they do a spitfire version it no doubt will be covered in purple.
This is why I love you, Steven. And to this day the only review channel I recommend to other people. You tell it like it is. Praise the good aspects and crap on the bad ones. I truly cannot believe this figure's paint job. This is absolutley pathetic to charge THAT much money for a figure (that comes with no effects mind you) with a paint job that horrible. I've seen people already working on very VERY good custom paint jobs on their Shin, and they get the red exposed skin parts down perfectly. I mean WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?

I also noticed the increase in quality control issues since the goji 2014 release. What it could be? No idea. Perhaps new designers, a new production policy, new machinery... I just don't know. Gochi Yugi Sakai wasn't brought on to design this figure. Imo Yugi Sakai and the people that designed Shin Godzilla would've nailed this figure sculpt wise and maybe paint.
I would normally agree with you, except Shin was made from the CGI files used in the movie and was colored by Takayuki Takeya (Shin Godzilla marquee sculptor). So - this thing really tanked.
+Alvin Nguyen Nah, sculpt is off. Head isn't close to the final design, the thighs are too skinny, and the texture is too flat instead of craggy like the design. They had access to the files from the movie, but Takeya and co were working from the design we saw on the first poster. Which wasn't used in the movie.
+Kaiju Fan X I think you're looking at a completely different figure or you have your eyes closed. The figure is bad. It's different from the proto significantly. Japanese owners are demanding Bandai provides a replacement for this bullshit.
I agree with you on the paint, the neck looks very weird with different colors on different segments. It is kind of bad especially when you look at the price. But the sculpt is really nice. The head is a little off though. Awsome review! Funny intro!
I've put this figure back to its box after getting the frozen version , the paint job is so much better and movie accurate on the frozen one... but its hard for me to resale the original version even though I won't be displaying it and most likely I can get a really nice price out of it......it's just that......as a die hard 2016 fan......owning this version makes me calm and peaceful and that feeling of complition ......DAMMIT I'M HIGH AS F......
Weirdly enough mine actually came with both eyes looking straight forward like the NECA one, but I would much rather have him with the even cockeyed look, like how the original suit was.
I actually got a perfect one out of the box (picked it up today). The paint is actually really good Every toe/claw is painted The paint is even No Excess Red The teeth are fine THE EYES ARE FINE I don't know. SHMA just has really bad QC, but they can make really nice figures when done correctly.
The eyes looked stupid from the very beginning when the design was revealed, this figure just keeps that essence. Btw, great sketch at the beginning XD !
Honestly I don't think we'll ever see any more accessories for MonsterArts. If they ever feel releasing accessories, most likely it's going to be in a separate set.
That intro was awsome. I know it takes AAAAGES to do but I think Steven would be a good animator. like, stop motion and stuff. I mean, he has SO MANY figures, the only thing stopping him is time and his imagination.
Oh well, your content is great as it is, plus it is very difficult to do. I'm just glad you take the time to do your reviews and unboxings, even if you do get attacked by Godzilla spines from time to time! :)
This figure has stirred a lot of emotions for me. On one hand I love Shin Godzilla as well as the design and the Monsterarts is by far the most detailed and highly articulated Shin figure on the market. On the other hand when you buy him not only do you have to pay an inflated price but you may get a figure with pretty good paint apps or one that is absolute horror. I don't know if I am willing to take the gamble.
This is likely going to be the first monsterarts that I actually try to repaint. Will I know what i'm doing? Probably not. Will it look better? It'll be hard to make it look worse. I'm just worried for the future releases. I don't want them to botch the new Burning Goji. I already have the original but really dig the new glossy version
On mine it seems like the black and red color separation was done beautifully, despite maybe one or two noticeable splotches. Build quality could use some work, but overall I feel that despite its inaccuracies and other issues, it's a very well done figure. Though the aftermarket prices are garbo. Seriously holy shit
Oh man, that reminds me of my DX VF-25 from Bandai, that thing cost me $200 and a few months later the figure literally exploded in front of my eyes, I was furious, more so when I see that it was a regular problem in all the figures, not just only mine.
Dragon Renteria The parts conecting the legs with the torso simply break, I was thinking it was only m figure but seeing reviews on youtube, I notice it was a spread problem, Bandai used the wrong plastic on the figures.

This video reminds me of when ultramancronos did his review on the SH Monsterarts Godzilla, except he was more angry and sort of aggressive and some of the things he said were uncalled for and very hurtful. I know he was only trying to tell everyone not to get there hopes up for SH Monsterarts, but he was other the top with all the swearing and all that. At least here you seemed a bit more calm.
That wasn't as much of a review as it was a rant about how vinyls will always reign supreme and SHMA's won't be as good and the line won't last long yadda yadda. Basically told a bunch of people to STFU and said "yeah it's pretty good." Over five years later....

Honestly I really do want this figure. I don't like the paint too much but I LOVE the sculpt. Plus this is possibly my favorite Godzilla as well. Sad though that the thing costs nearly $200 on amazon. Definitely too pricy. If this thing was like $60 that would be fine. Sadly I do not foresee a price drop :(
I wish I would have watched this before purchasing the figure as well but I am a Godzilla fan to the core. Unfortunately mine came in with a busted thy joint and the hand is super loose! I paid $200 bucks and when I received it and saw the leg joint, I was really upset.. I got a partial refund and decided to keep it until I can fix it. I 100% agree with this review! The paint job is really sloppy, the eyes are going two different directions. I'm glad someone out there is being real and telling it like it is and not sooo much a fan boy, they ignore it and tell us to buy it anyway. Great review bro👍🏼!
With the aftermath of this figure; will you purchase the Form Set to complete the lineage or skip it and have your movie monster series vinyls fill their place?

+NDKfilms thank you! The term out of print is incorrect here. The figures go out of production the minute they're on store shelves. Bandai uses the product run method instead of constant production, so it's based on being in stock. Both the Ua7 and birth ver. are still readily available. You can get them on Amazon!
I have questions How is the figure inaccurate to the movie aside from the paint? The sculpt looks accurate to me, what flaws with the sculpt do you see?
+SmashBlaster 1-Up the teeth aren't the correct shape and there should be more, he can't close his mouth, and his thighs are off in size and shape. Sternum needs to be more well defined. Arms are a bit wonky, too, but maybe I'm wrong.
EthanDino52 the prototype was gorgeous but the final product is pretty good but when compared to prototype it's kinda trash. But I'm buying it so yea :/
What's really annoying is how generally careless the were with this figure. I mean... Jeez!!! Looks how much care the put into Battra Larva! They even added an extra flap to let you make Battra look further up and cover up a gap!
Hey Steven, do you think the NECA Shin Godzilla would or could be better than this?? I do think it could be cheaper than what this is on retail, but I do like how this looks. Also I think the reason Shin's eyes are crooked is because the left eye was modeled off the Teaser Poster.
i dont know whats wrong with toys these days. first we look at their prototype or leaked pictures and thought, "oh, this figure is gonna be my favorite one" and when the final release come out, we're like, "why did i buy this?"
Honestly? I feel the same way. While some cool figures have come out this year, with a few more yet to get to me, I have not been blown away like I thought I would be with the prototype. I enjoy collecting, I do, but this is getting really old really fast.
I'm blind so the paint thing is no biggy. How about shape? The eyes thing was kinda conserning since you said they are in the wrong place. Is the tale correct shape wize? The boddy? Is he correctly fat thin or what evs? Are the claws correctly shaped like the movie 1? Now the other thing is yeah the effects. But the biggest thing is that it doesn't roar.
It's ridiculous to think how Bandai can do compared to what they were able to do 5 years ago. You would expect them to be better now than before. To me the shin reissue looks like they didn't even try to fix it. The only good figure since shin in my opinion is Godzilla 2017.
Hopefully Bandai will release another version with better paint job, a beam effect, and a second pair of jaw that split like how it was in the movie when he was using his automic breath.
I'm more "who's the sculptor" collector.. So my main concern about this figure is how is the casting? I trust the original sculpt, but will the detail get warped or lost since it is small? For the paint yeah it could and SHOULD be better, but not a problem for me since I'm used to vinyl and resin kits anyway, I'll just repaint them no big deal. About the accuracy, well, I know this is sculpted and supervised by the same person, in the same studio, and almost in the same time with the original maquette, and that's good enough for me..oh, btw great review :)
Not even likely to be on the same continent as true. Plenty of figures are released to only one market and they don't have this quality. Japan is #1, other markets are an afterthought. Why would they intentionally sabotage a product?

The 1954 SHMA was a new sculpt that came out in 2016, I thought at least that one came out great

Burning Godzilla I'm kinda a Die-Hard Shin Godzilla fan and I kinda had to get this figure. I knew I was gonna get it somehow so I managed to get it.
From the latest pictures it seems like they sortened the tail.I mean the huge tail is what defines this zilla.
I feel like asking for the figure just 'cause he said not to...

What's really annoying is how generally careless the were with this figure. I mean... Jeez!!! Looks how much care the put into Battra Larva! They even added an extra flap to let you make Battra look further up and cover up a gap!
Im actually looking forward to the Neca this time.

Hey Steven, do you think the NECA Shin Godzilla would or could be better than this??
I do think it could be cheaper than what this is on retail, but I do like how this looks. Also I think the reason Shin's eyes are crooked is because the left eye was modeled off the Teaser Poster.
i dont know whats wrong with toys these days. first we look at their prototype or leaked pictures and thought, "oh, this figure is gonna be my favorite one" and when the final release come out, we're like, "why did i buy this?"

Honestly? I feel the same way. While some cool figures have come out this year, with a few more yet to get to me, I have not been blown away like I thought I would be with the prototype. I enjoy collecting, I do, but this is getting really old really fast.
They better not screw up Baragon or Gorosaurus

I'm blind so the paint thing is no biggy. How about shape? The eyes thing was kinda conserning since you said they are in the wrong place. Is the tale correct shape wize? The boddy? Is he correctly fat thin or what evs? Are the claws correctly shaped like the movie 1? Now the other thing is yeah the effects. But the biggest thing is that it doesn't roar.

It's ridiculous to think how Bandai can do compared to what they were able to do 5 years ago. You would expect them to be better now than before. To me the shin reissue looks like they didn't even try to fix it. The only good figure since shin in my opinion is Godzilla 2017.
Hopefully Bandai will release another version with better paint job, a beam effect, and a second pair of jaw that split like how it was in the movie when he was using his automic breath.

I'm more "who's the sculptor" collector.. So my main concern about this figure is how is the casting? I trust the original sculpt, but will the detail get warped or lost since it is small? For the paint yeah it could and SHOULD be better, but not a problem for me since I'm used to vinyl and resin kits anyway, I'll just repaint them no big deal. About the accuracy, well, I know this is sculpted and supervised by the same person, in the same studio, and almost in the same time with the original maquette, and that's good enough for me..oh, btw great review :)

They probably just didn't put a lot of work into it since it was released to only one country.
Not even likely to be on the same continent as true. Plenty of figures are released to only one market and they don't have this quality. Japan is #1, other markets are an afterthought. Why would they intentionally sabotage a product?
