Dear all printer companies, just make the lids like this. I would pay extra. Larger printers you need like 2 foot of clearance which really limits where you can put these machines. Thanks for the great vid!
Ya, I totally agree. I actually did a review where I brought this up and asked that they make an upgrade available. Anycubic has actually started doing this with some of their newer machines, so I'm hoping that more of them will also start.
This mod is making it so I can keep my Saturn 2, as I'm building a desk space and needed more than the 38 INCHES needed for the original lid to be lifted off. Thank you!!!
I was eying the Uniformation GkTwo before I wound up grabbing my Saturn 2 on super sale, I’ve lowkey regretted the lid issues ever since. I’m definitely going to make this mod happen, it’ll be such an improvement
Thank you for this! I also have limited space, with a shelf above my printing workstation area. I have been interested in purchasing a Saturn 2, but was worried that it wouldn't fit under my shelf, due to the need to lift the cover off of it. With this mod I can be certain that I can make it fit. Much appreciated!
@@Yarkspiri The newer models have a better flip up design, but honestly wish they had done this sooner cause I am now having space constraints and I am going to have to start modifying my older printers to get them to fit :/
@@B143DP It's good to hear that they finally started doing this. The flip up design can still take up a lot more space than necessary. I personally prefer the doors like that of the Jupiter.
just wondering, what kind of "spare material" did you use to bridge the seam that you cut? i have to buy material as i have not done jobs like these before but i don't know what to ask for. is it PVC/what kind of plastic folds bends so nicely?
It was a high-end printing material, but I did find a much better solution that might also work. I only got it, thanks to another commenters' recommendation, but here's the link for the product that I found in my local area. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B089FWZVHB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
@@Yarkspiri that sounds like an awesome sealing solution, thank you! 😊 would you do that on both the front and back pieces of the lid? also would you still gaff tape over it?
I'd put it only on the back part of the lid, but I would still use gaff tape for some extra support as well as to seal any resin from getting between that and the adhesive material.
@@Yarkspiri thank you for replying so quickly! yeah my concern is the seal of the final product. i ended up getting a 35mm black silicone seal (the equivalent of what you got, but you got a 25mm one) here in Australia. fingers crossed it seals well!
Can you tell me if you think this mod would work as well with the Anycubic Photon M3 Premium? Notice the cover on it has a ridge at the top, intersecting where one would want to cut. I assume this still works though? www.anycubic.com/collections/new-arrival/products/photon-m3-premium-3d-printer?sscid=41k7_1xsxl&
It should, but you'll need to double-check the spacing + and be very careful when cutting it in half. Because of the groves it may have more of a tendency to split, you might want to use some painters tape to hold the parts together or find a way to anchor it better while you cut it.
Here's a example. Most major tool companies have their own version. www.amazon.ca/GOXAWEE-Rotary-1-3amp-MultiPro-Keyless/dp/B07PP2X37T/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=rotary+tool&qid=1673997745&sprefix=rota%2Caps%2C335&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFIVTZQVks0MkpJWDEmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA2NTkyNTMyVzg3RTNLNEdPWlc2JmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA3ODU3MTgyN1RaTlZNVEE3U1JIJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Very cool solution. I was thinking something along these lines, or a door version since I have the same low shelf situation. Are you still happy with the way you went with yours? Any improvements?

i was thinking about doing something like this but was imagining a hinged approach.. yours came out great! elegant solution
Glad you liked it!

So far it's been the best decision I've made. It's also part of the reason why I'm very happy with my Jupiter.

Great mod. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to do something similar
It was a great quality of life improvement. I'm not sure whey they haven't just started building them similarly, since it's way more functional.

Is it a shame elego do not work to improvement that box? Yeahh of course
One could only hope that it happens in the future. The good news is that this mod should work on other machines as well.
What's a row terry tool?
