Please don't call Soumitra Chatterjee a legend of Bengali cinema, he is a legend of world cinema. His works with Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, Mrinal Sen are revered around the world, specially Europe.
Only in the actual movie industry and cinema art lovers. Soumitra chatterjee isn't a household name in Europe! If you were to randomly ask a group of people if they knew of him, highly likely they'd say no.. the man was talented and an exceptional actor but not widely known to the populace of Europe or US.! .
@@skylark2352 when I said Europe, it obviously goes without saying I meant by the cinephile populace over there or the followers of world cinema. Why would random people know about Soumitra Chatterjee? That's a very random thought from you. I was in Monaco in 2017, and there were screenings of Chatterjee's films that I coincidentally chanced upon while I was there. A few years back in Poland his films were screened in one of their film festivals and an entire section of the festival was dedicated to him. I was having my film screened there, so I know. I guess I have explained well now.
Yesss Soumitra Chatterjee will be remembered thoroughly for everything he was, he has done....my mother cried like a baby when the news of his death came 😩 soumitra was her fav actor....my father was lucky enough to work with him in his theatre group for a production once....and i was lucky too as once i got his autograph in kolkata book fair,i was 10-12 yrs. maybe.....
He was truly a legend❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏 my god rest his soul for eternity🙏❤️
P.s. - you guyz should watch every satyajit ray film he has done, and moreover every film that was mentioned in this video, u both should watch those too....👍

Thank you for doing this. Soumitra Chatterjee was an unmatched legend as an actor. You should watch Ray's two children's movies - Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne and the sequel, Hirak Rajar Deshe (which had Soumitra). You can also watch one of his most successful later films - Bela Sheshe.

SATYAJIT RAY made only one hindi film in his lifetime but that does not stop him to get international fame. SOUMITRA CHATERJEE also never go to bollywood . He was very deeply rooted with bengal and bengali culture. We bengalis are so lucky that we dont need subtitles to watch RAY's film , Uttam kumar, soumitra chatterjee on the screen. We dont need the translated verson of the creation of Rabindranath Thakur. We are actually blessed.

I am very much influenced by your culture bro, I love Satyajit Ray, Rabindranath Tagore,Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chatterjee and many more, Even my Bengali friends are not aware about them. I am learning Bengali ,so that I can enjoy these things in the original versions and not the Transalated one's. He is the roof of Bengali cinema and it seems that whole bengali film industry and bengalis become orphans. We bengalis literally crying and we could not sync it till now! He was just not only active in cinema, theatre but he was brilliant in recitation, painting. He will always be remembered as an actor, not just as a hero. I want to suggest you ' Belaseshe' (2015) and 'Charulata'(satyajit ray film).
Soumitra Chatterjee was a great actor in tollywood
The man who breathed life into the literary masterpieces of the legendary Satyajit Ray. The man had been renowned for his acting skills even till this day at such an age. He had been one of the few active actors from that Era when Bengali Cinema was going through its Golden Age and even though he walked among giants like Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen, the fame he created for himself had not been insignificant. It would indeed be a very tough job for the Bengal Film Industry to fill the niche left behind by this great man - indeed it is entirely possible and most probable that like the other legends of his time, he shall remain irreplaceable. We those who he had left behind shall religiously pray and hope that his soul may find his deserved peace in his rest.

Belasheshe is one where he IS the central character and is still fantastic at his acting. Lastly is his recitation of poems - especially those composed by Rabindranath Tagore. They are just to die for.
I feel that an entire part of my childhood has been lost.....forever......the first person I ever knew to be Feluda....our inspirational khidda and our dearest Apu. Watch either Joy Baba Felunath, Sonar Kella, Hirak Rajar Deshe or Apur Sangsar first..... you will enjoy all
