I never understood why british politicians keep walking into this random residential looking house in all kinds of news stories lol. Now I know what it is.
I shall always remember walking though that street as a child with my late parents into Whitehall, long before the days when Thatcher put gates at the entrance at Whitehall.

Thanks for peek at No. 10 from behind the gate. Way back in last century (early 1970s) while visiting London I was walking through St James Park and took a shortcut to get to Whitehall. And got to walk right in front of No. 10 which one could way back when. Its all different now.
Never been across the Pond in person, and knew very little of it. Almost all the pictures we see over here just show the "Door" along with the "10" along with each adjacent window; nothing more. On the whole, it really has quite an impressive layout and many beautiful rooms. This and a few other videos really gives Number 10 its due so those that are not fortunate enough to see it in person can still experience some of it. Funny, I wouldn't have thought security would allow a large lorry to drive in the front gate on the ground level like that. Regardless of full security sweeps and probably the best security people on Earth all concentrated in the compound, it just makes me nervous for some reason. It's probably just an American thing 🤔.
It just seemed a strange date to put. The job of PM is not official but as you say First Lord of the treasury. Which is on the letter box of the door. Great film though.
@Alison Randall When the Royal family ruled Britain the King ( or queen) had ministers to which they would give instructions to. The head minister ( or Prime Minister) would be summonsed to the King ( or queen) and they would issue their instructions to him and he, in turn, would pass those instructions down the line to the rest of the Ministers. When power was taken away from the Royal family the Prime Minister took office, and that's how the PM was born.
Actually, that's not true. The Queen and the rest of the monarchy only have ceremonial powers. The British government is headed by the Prime Minister and the members of Parliament.

Like she tells parliament what they can and cannot discuss. She also could appoint her own prime minister or dissolve parliament and take control of the country if she chose or in other words nothing happens in the UK without her approval
@@pa7447 The Queen is just a figurehead. Her speeches are written by the government. She has no powers at all now. The term, "her majesty's government" is just a saying. A tradition. The Queen has no power now at all.

Gates were put there because the IRA launched a missile at Number 10. Nearly wiped out the entire government.

I think you will find it’s 1902 that the PM has been their official residence in Downing Street. Not 1997.
As I mentioned in the video, British Prime Ministers have lived here FULL-TIME since 1997, but obviously have lived here before then.
