One flaw I found on this V8 drill is that while drilling with the shaft facing down/upwards, the oil in the engine would go in a way that some bits of the engine would not get any oil. I would suggest installing a dry sump system so that every part of the engine will get the oil regardless of what angle the engine is facing.
Very good point. I'm also curious how the drive shaft of the engine takes thrust loads rather than axial loads. Most car crankshafts are not made to take a load in that direction. I would fit thrust bearings. Overall I'm thinking that a V8 powered flex shaft machine would make more sense. Then again if it's about making sense...
I was thinking the same thing too. Lmao 🤣. Great comment. You got to it before I did. & Three days before I saw this video. Regardless great comment! 😂
I always thought that I was a good vehicle mechanic, having worked on Cars, Motorcycles, HGVs,Heavy plant,Tanks. But your skills are next level. Unbelievable skill.
I’m a mechanic and every engine I ever saw has the oil pick up on the front end where the harmonic balancer is. Front end of the oil pan. So that’s not technically true. If you lean the drill forward there’s possibly enough oil to still be getting pumped since the oil pick up is probably up front.
Always thought about how cool it would be to make such but with a .21 nitro RC car engine..... But this............ I really wanna see him test it, I'm sure its got endless potential! You know youre buddy's a gearhead but when he pulls out his V8 drill to work on his V8 car........ There's a poetry in that.
Great vid. I would have shown how you changed the location of cooling tank feed port from the back to around the front side so that the engine still gets coolant when the drill is vertical. I was gonna comment that you should make that exact change, when in the last minute of the video I noticed that suddenly it had changed. Always good to show problem solving FWIW.
I spoted a few problems. 1st is you are applying thrust pressure on the crank that it wasn't designed for, that engine will not live long. 2nd, the coolant taps are on the wrong end of reservoir. When you drill downward, the taps get no coolant. Fill the tank up more, or move taps. 3rd, good for high-speed stuff but with no reduction, power is going to be lacking in a big way
@@Guns_N_Gears I mean, it would have been a lot funnier if you said it which is why i gave you the opportunity to claim it but I guess I'll take credit for the joke 🤣
It's just for display and drills some holes so it works for its purpose with no problem. It needed a centrifugal clutch with a thrust bearing and a planetary gearbox on the front to make the output run to around 1000-3000rpm with WOT.
chuck mounted directly on crank? them bearings or bushings lasted max 5min of drilling. working any longer then that, if any, it'öö soon have grenaded itself from over heating since it couldnt get any coolent whilst drilling down-right.
