This track more than anything speaks to me of just how enormous of a missed opportunity WoD was. There were grand plans for this expansion, but almost none of them materialized, and instead Blizz torched enormous amounts of goodwill with returning players.
Man yah it was unfortunate. The music was amazing though. And so was the content and raids added, but when watching videos of all the cut content we could have gotten, it just leaves me side swiped. Missing raids, missing zones, the ogre island, faralahon, the zangar sea zone, the fungal whale boss, the tabard collection system, class accessories, the shattrath raid. I mean, the ogre island would have had a presumed 2 ogre raids at least, and the ogres were a huge part of the old horde. I mean, just so saddening. I did enjoy my time in warlord's though. You gotta give credit where it is due. I mean, i cut the developer's some slack here and there. They make mistakes just like anyone else does. I definitely did not expect perfection, but alot of people it seems do these days. They also needed to tweak garrisons more, so that you actually had a reason to go out into the world. I remember most peeps just hanging out in their garrisons farming herbs and gold, and mining and fishing the whole time. I feel there should have been a hard cap on that, and like a 4 day duration before you were able to farm herbs and junk from your garrison again. Gold missions should have been deleted entirely. The music and art, the dungeons and the zones were awesome and cool. The content we did get was amazing, make no mistake. Even blizzcon 2013 just had so much hype, but even alot of the stuff there was never even mentioned again. Definitely a underappreciated, misunderstood expansion unfortunately.
I remember swimming from Booty Bay to the Swamp of Sorrows just for exploration, and as the "South Seas" text popped up, I was assaulted by epic Stormwind music out of nowhere. That felt appropriate somewhow.
This will remain THE music from WoD for me. It reminds me of the time when I had one of the most fascinating leveling experiences in WoW and the addon was really, really promising (noone expected the dull garrison thing and the current drought similar to the SoO situation). This one makes me quite sentimental, thanks for putting it up. I have actually bookmarked this since the launch but only recently I became more attached to it ;).
Wow. 6:18 and beyond is just...breathtaking. I imagine myself laying on a field under the stars on a warm summer evening, watching the galaxies pass me by.
04:57 to 06:16 is definitely my favorite soundtrack in whole World of Warcraft. So deep and beautiful. Ever makes some tears rolling down from my eye. *_*
A sea soundtrack is better than some soundtracks of leveling zones... Idk why but this make me assume that one of patches will be about ogre island/continent which we can see on Draenor map at bottom-left corner.
***** which makes me wonder, is the next expansion going to keep us in the alternate timeline past draenor except with another continent to explore (technically speaking lore terms, will we stay cut off from Azeroth). then after an expansion or two on Draenor, have us go back to an Azeroth already invaded by the Burning Legion. with a world this diverse, and with tons of story to fill the time, it would be really weird to have us go back to out timeline Azeroth to fight whatever, only to have to go back to a alternate timeline Draenor to fight some Ogres.
04:59 and 11:27 - they have achieved complete synaesthesia...just by hearing that you can see the shore/sea/horizon and feel the cold wind blowing upon your cheeks. This, kids,is real art.I am pretty sure that Blizz composers are better ones than classical musicians, unimaginable talent and musicianship.
This was the music for the original sea of zangar, a discarded area, on my channel I have a documentary about warlords of draenor, it is in Spanish but it has English subtitles (I think)
You can play the track at 4:57 in game by using the command /script PlaySoundKitID(49193) However, there are multiple songs associated with that KitID, so it might not play the right one the first time!
I came later in the game so I missed WoD and how ‘awful’ people say it was. But when I started doing old WoD stuff it was very fun for me. The garrison grinds were certainly interesting to me. The meta achievements, the mount grinds(it was the first time for me tending and training my mounts, to add them into my collection). Fishing for mounts. The zones were unique especially Frostfire Ridge. And the music abd ambience were unique only to outland and had a completely different vibe than any other Azeroth related. Idk about how the expansion was back then but I loved the WoD experience not gonna lie.
WoD is actually pretty good, especially compared to BfA, during the time though, it was the worst xpac. Mists was good (the one right before it) Legion was incredible (the one after) and BfA reminded us of a worse Draenor
@@GameUnCrafter i started playing in bfa so maybe im biased but i loved bfa or rather the lore and aesthetic of it. Horde vs alliance at ots core and azshara and nzoth as a bonus it was awesome. Corruption and azerite system was interesting to me. Wod and draenor is the first place i started mount collecting and its when i had the most fun, coupled with the ambiance and aesthetic it was amazing too
I'm really surprised no one has mentioned the 7:27-10:50 part, specifically; it's the most relaxing/beautiful by far... The only part I could/will listen for hours without getting tired of it.
Some of the tracks are also used in Botani "Bloom" areas (like Everbloom Wilds, Razorbloom) and in "Zangarmarsh" areas (which happens to be, well, next to the sea).
Ive always absolutely loved the WOW soundtrack, but I get pretty scared for it with each new expansion release. THIS GIVES ME SO MUCH HOPE :D :D :D :D :D :D!!!
It's almost like new music is too afraid of being subtle and quiet, constantly trying to be heard and present and as a result ends up being noise more than melody. Some old stuff by Glenn Stafford and Matt Uelmen and even some MoP stuff by Jeremy Soule had balance and subtlety and their compositions enhanced zones from the background. WoD music feels like it's trying too hard to be noticed and becomes overbearing after a while.
I disagree, to me the vanilla musics were nice and all, but then we needed something more. Vanilla had too many "quiet" themes, BC was the same, WotLK nailed it perfectly (managed to do a stronger ambient music which sticks -> Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Mountains of Thunder...), Cata was way too much (ALTHOUGH some zones' theme were enhanced like Elwynn Forest), MoP was quiet and WoD great but yep, sometimes a bit too "strong"
GeneralProfessor Imagine, you are "stuck" on a new planet surrounded by armies of enemies. You build up your Garrison and try to fight them off (In the end, you succeed) You got to play WoW with lore behind and this music will help you :D
Will you be doing another top 10 soon ? :) I'd love to get very precise top10's from you (top10 zone, character, dungeon, raid, expansion, city, cinematic... music) and then a final top10 wow music, would be really great !
Indeed. The music in Legion is very sterile by comparison to Warlords, and even compared to past expansions. I'm pretty sure it's because Edo Guidotti and Neal Acree are no longer involved. Just listen to anything from Warlords that Edo Guidotti, Neal Acree, and to a lesser extent Derek Duke is on, and you'll realize what's missing now in Legion. *Neal and Duke are probably my personal bias here... but Edo is indisputably the granddaddy of them all when it comes to any epic music we've heard in Warcraft to date.
Possibly was spose to be a big sea battle vs iron horde before the exp got changed ? and instead went with ship yard and hellfire demons / guldan ? who knows , epic music tho
That's part of the ecosystem and what Zangarmarsh was like before Draenor's explosion. It also hints at where the landmasses were as well (we can assume Frostfire Ridge was pushed North and merged with Gorgrond which gave rise to Zangarmarsh).
+Embertaph actually, Frostfire IS Bladrspire, geographically, since its directly north of the Zangar area (later re-named Zangarmarsh) between Shatt and Bladespire, Gorgrond is in the place where Netherstorm used to be, its a common mistake by blizzard, they always slap geography in the face
Edo Guidotti - Malevolent Mystique is another one. I've found "man down" in the comments. In the epic music player addon I've noticed the name of the composer is "edo guidotti" I'd love to know more too!
I agree with what a lot of the people here are saying; the music for WoD is too noisy and it tries too hard to be "epic". This is a fundamental difference between the current retail game and vanilla, in Vanilla it was epic because of player interactions that made it epic, the world itself was empty, but now, Blizzard have changed it around, they force "epic" on the players, as evidenced in the music. They want to make it "cinematic", by adding fancy cutscenes and linear quests and zone progression that inevitably lead to a raid, but it's an MMORPG, the exact opposite of cinematic, and the plot-writing is rubbish too since Blizzard always retcon things for no apparent reason and their writing is generally just pedestrian and mediocre, so it doesn't really fit. This is why vanilla, TBC and some Wrath music will always stand above this new 'vision' of WoW. It also shows that Blizzard are getting so desperate that they have to abandon their original vision for WoW to pander to people who aren't going to play the game for very long so they can get a quick sale and make some easy money. The future of retail WoW is dark.
Jordan Ehdieb I have the opposite reaction. I found Vanilla WoW to be BORING. Yeah it had nicer music, but that dosent mean anything. I'd rather be immersed in an awesome story of Velen thwarting Ner'zhul, or Draka and Kaz battling the Botani and gradually gaining mutual respect for each other despite their differences, than the "bring me 20 bear asses" of vanilla.
+Jordan Ehdieb I also had the opposite reaction. I do own almost all of the Warcraft music. Yes, virtually ALL of it, from sound files to the soundtracks. I think its important to understand what each soundtrack can bring to the game. I understand that many players turn the ambient music off, but I fell in love with WoD because it was so vastly different from Wrath, Vanilla or any of the rest. It sounds deeper and less refined than BC, less whispy than Northrend, and while not as bright as Vanilla. Cataclysm and Pandaria were so beautiful in their own rights, but I don't think I need to compare those to Draenor much. Say what you will but I love the use of all the new instruments to paint a much different picture of this 'new' world. Savage, beautiful, wild. Warlords of Draenor. Also I know many people hate Draenor lore. As a lore buff, I could see where people think Blizzard is just swinging around any lore they see fit. I think its completely the opposite (and pray I am right). What Blizz is doing is setting the stage for people that DON'T know the pre-WoW lore (this would be Warcraft I-III). Don't forget how big the player base is! There are so many characters like Gul'dan that are dead in our timeline that people don't know much about aside from a realm name. How better to acquaint the next generation of Warcraft players with him and the roots of the Horde than having them FIGHT him (not to mention his major role in the Burning Legion). This entire arc (in my opinion) is a way to refresh the last 15+ years of lore Warcraft has been building. There are so many characters now, and for people new to the game its hard to find a good place to start. By reintroducing Gul'dan, Kahdgar and the others we are starting to see a major shift! The BIG lore players are coming back to the forefront of the lore! If that doesn't mean something big (such as Sargaras) is coming in the future I can't image what else it could be. I know many have written off Blizzard by now, but I for one, am excited to see what story they will weave! :)

Definately this! I agree.
There was originally going to be some leveling in the oceans - we had the concept art for sporelord whales and stuff.
We had?
As in, they gave us concept art of the Zangar Sea at Blizzcon, so we had it available to us. Which is what I'm sure he meant.
They didn't scrap the idea man, the expansion just released!! - There will be tons of patches with lots of content :)
what a massive disappointment

Good question.
It might have something to do with Zangarmarsh's history? Hopefully i'll find something out inside the game.
That's part of the ecosystem and what Zangarmarsh was like before Draenor's explosion. It also hints at where the landmasses were as well (we can assume Frostfire Ridge was pushed North and merged with Gorgrond which gave rise to Zangarmarsh).
