Most people spend their entire lives in the rat race. So how do you escape?
There are actually multiple rat races, from "Keeping up with the Joneses" to following the herd as a digital nomad.
It's easy to think that quitting your job to start a business means you've escaped the rat race, but if you're spending your entire business earnings on homes and cars, or if you're moving to Chiang Mai "just because", you may have entered an entirely different rat race than the one you left.

wealthy people have to learn to fake being nice because in order to get rich and obtain power in this world you need the ability to charm and persuade others. of course they could genuinely be nice but in my experience that tends to be on the lesser seen side, especially if they're entrepreneurs

First rat race is to have cash flow that exceed your expenses to attain freedom.
Second rat race is to maintain that state or to exceed that cash flow to gain more freedom and not simultaneously increase expenses because that is when you fall back to the rat hole. Cashflow = freedom.

South East Asia seems better, despite Natural Disaster, Can you get by without knowing the Language, I hear a lot of people speak English In certain Overseas Country's, Tho It's true once you escape the Rat Race your only In another type of Race. Working 9 to 5 is a relic of the industrial revolution that’s broke and antiquated. The problem is we still have Industrial age thinking in the digital age. Instead of asking how to escape the rat race we should be thinking how did we get in the rat race to begin with? The rat race is by design. Unfortunately capitalism puts the majority of society left to fight and compete for jobs and resources.
But you bring up a great point that once you leave one rat race you essentially get in another rat race on a different level. The real way to escape the rat race is to escape the psychology and ideologies of people in the rat race.

I realized that the main reason for doing this is not about the success but the inspiration I've been providing some people with my stories while helping others do the same as I shared the lessons & experiences through making videos to have a sense of meaningful purpose. Therefore, I’m planning to quit nursing to pursue youtube full time as there are lots of issues in our traditional health systems as these don’t align with my values. It’s a huge learning curve but I love helping people through making videos.
Also, as part of my video creation progress, I’m switching to a better editing software and a camera so the learning curve is much higher and slows down the completion speed of my next videos so please hang on tight! I'm finishing my college degree & working as an Educational Assistant. It is so far from where I am going, but it is such a growth environment. I'm learning so much about humanity and myself, as well as the income is helping me build credit & capital.
I would say I've been separating myself from the rat race for a while. I came to University to grow, expand my world view and invest in myself, while healing in a supportive environment. People have worried about, when I will finish, where I will go next, but for me it's never been the concern. I'm trying to set up my future, my kids and my grandchildren... You don't rush those things.
All this to say, I relate to this video so much, and while I don't look like "success" at this moment... My search for meaning, authenticity & human dignity has led me on a path of similar independence.
Cheers Andrew & thanks for all the nuggets you share, I feel like I have a successful friend who keeps checking in and giving me food for thought!

Why Andrew says otherwise?? IDK. Most small business owners work very hard; yes, they end up earning way more (if their businesses don't fail, like 80% do during the first 5 years), but it's not easy at all like many people think.

I get what he's saying. The problem is, escaping the rat race may not be for everyone. In the Philippines, I have friends who are minimum wage earners, and taxes/social security contributions plus rent plus necessary expenses leave them with merely 10-15% of their monthly income. Oftentimes, they send those remaining money to their families in the provinces, or use it on a rainy day. Approximately, they earn $275 a month, and even with a 13th month pay, it just isn't enough.
In my case, I've saved $3000+ this year on freelance writing jobs, which is quite enough but still way lower compared to other countries. I'm planning to start a blog soon but that's just me "trying to escape the rat race". This might be a gamble but this is what my heart wants.
What I'm trying to say here is that it works with some, but not for everyone. I'm just about to find out if this applies to me.

You don't need a more expensive car, more expensive clothes, etc. Most people just go with the flow and do what other successful people do. You can break free from that mentality and sure it won't get you out of the rat race but it will save you some money and possibly change the way you think about what truly makes you happy.
