Hey, just wanted to make a correction. You CAN play ps1 games off a usb. You just have to put them in a folder called PSXISO. You can also rip the ps1 disc using multiman with create iso. This is actually better as some games have multiple bin tracks and if not properly merged the game wont play properly.
@@drac6838 yes. USB 2.0 speeds are quite sufficient for the PS1, PSP, and PS3 ISO'S. Very little difference at all between having them internal or external.
Blaine, I noticed you made the same mistake again. You can run PS1 games from USB by putting the bin/cue in the PSXISO folder on the root of your USB drive. If you make your file system like this: PSXISO PS2ISO PSPISO PS3ISO GAMES (for games in folder format) All your games will show up. PS3 games in the games category and PS1, PSP, PS2 in the retro category. Also you don't need to restart to get rid of the disc data, just hit refresh games list. You can also rip PS1 discs using Multiman on PS3.
I prefer to use the PSX ports that were on the PS store cause the file size is smaller and they are officially supported. Whatever isn't ported, I resort to putting in the PSXISO folder.
@Corey Masters Fortunately, the latest version of EvilNat CFW prohibits PSN access by default. You can disable custom firmware temporarily via button combination and safely go on PSN. Simply hold R2 and Triangle and you'll hear a trophy unlock sound with a message saying CFW syscalls disabled and History deleted. As a person who has been modding consoles for years, i found this video more complicated. 1. PS3 has a SATA 1.5 controller, which means that it can't use the full speed of SSD's. Your best bet is to use a SSHD or a regular HDD. Also, if you know how to configure, you can install 2TB storage. 2. Copying ISO's and running them from multiman is not very comfortable, you can use digital versions and run them straight from the XMB. ISO versions are disc based versions, which means they will install additional data when you first run run them, also they can cause freezing/crashes. Digital versions are the most reliable. 3. Speaking about PS2 versions, You can convert PS2 ISO to PS2 Classics and run them from XMB (you can add icon/background/music)
Agree also the ps3 is limited to 1.7tb But my question is what program did you use too configure your 2tb HDD as I tried doing it myself but kept running into errors... I know that one can configure the 2tb to a 1.7tb & it should work, but I couldn't manage too configure it... So I settled for a 1.5tb sata HDD
I see one big disadvantage to what you were proposing, it all relies on the internal hard drive. You can run folder and ISO games of a flash or external hard drive and you won't have a limit on storage. I do agree with you that Multiman isn't the best way to launch games. I usually launch them from Webman so I don't have to leave the XMB. He's trying to keep things simple. The only thing he really should have pointed out is that you can't run PS2 ISOs on a HEN system (but you can when you convert them to PKG files).
Note to people who want to this, you will need the DS3 for the setup. Tried connecting a DS4 and a fight stick with home button but no dice. All the original controller died sitting around close to a decade.
3 years ago I installed a new HDD to my PS3 Slim, I had it soft modded with PS3HEN for the same amount of years, had a almost 500 gb worth of games there, all jailbroken, it worked great, then a few days ago this HDD died completely! I tried recovering the system a couple of times until the console said it didn't recognize it anymore, well then I got a 1tb SSD this time around, because another benefit of an SSD is that it doesn't have moving parts like a HDD and I feel like that makes the drive last longer, I truly hope this SSD that I just installed lasts longer and works better, it felt like my PS3 ALWAYS struggled with a HDD, you could hear the disk spinning in what seemed like an erratic way, anyway, I already installed 4.90, tomorrow I'll continue this tutorial to see if I can get back to CFW or PS3HEN, I'm convinced my PS3 slim might actually be compatible for CFW.... let's hope so! I love your videos Blaine! awesome work!
