This song is sadly beautiful. Kevin lost his dad to colon cancer, Brian had heart surgery, Howie's sister passed away from Lupus. The group lost their friend and music producer Denniz Pop from stomach cancer (35). These guys just seem to get better with time. Anton, AJ is my favorite too.
@@nickl9564 true, but it wasn't during this time when this song came out. show me the meaning definitely hits more when you know all of the loss they've experienced to this day, but they had a lot pile on during the millennium album
Oh okay! I wasn’t clear on exactly what Kevin’s part was about whether he had a difficult relationship with his father or dealing with his father’s passing. Appreciated! 👍
They all suffered losses Kevin’s father died when he was 19 from his battle with cancer, Howie lost his sister to lupus she was 25, Brian had open heart surgery, AJ lost a friend to a car accident in their teens, Denniz pop was their music producer who died from stomach cancer (route bus is etc) it’s a very sad song especially for dealing with loss
I can't wait for you to eventually hear their song "Incomplete." It's my favorite of theirs. It was released years after their peak popularity when radio didn't support them as much, but it's a very beautiful, quality song with a similar dark ballad feel to "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely."
Nick takes the lead in many of the hits and the most rockish songs together with AJ, he's in fact one of the most talented vocalists in the band, maybe next to AJ although others say that Brian has the best voice, but Nick just has so many registers, he can go from sweet, angelic voice to a raspy/bitter tone and create different vibes, he's got one of the strongest voices inside the band actually
I remember that the video premiered on MTV on December 31st 1999, 15 minutes before the New Year, back when people were still kinda freakin out about Y2K lol, and these guys were at their absolute prime, btw Nick is very talented, he even released solo material with more of a pop rock sound, it's actually very good. Back when the song came out was such a cool era in general, and while some things remain the same, the world was quite different, it's not just nostalgia, if you lived through those times, you know.
At the time of this video they lost their beloved manager Denniz Pop. Brian almost died during heart surgery (beginning shots in hosp). Kevin lost a loved one. Howie lost his sister. AJ lost his grandma. It was a year or loss for all of them
Yes..a MASTERPIECE. This is my favorite of their's as well, along with "Shape of My Heart." Your breakdown of each member and what each brings to the group is so spot on. Great insight on your part. Boyz II Men -"Doin Just Fine" is SO good as well. It will take you there. It is a MASTERPIECE as well I believe you will see. GREAT REACTION!
Nick Carters voice has improved a lot. Listen to Nick Carter-Just kids (live performance). It's a song he wrote for the group for one of their albums but it didn't make it on there. His vocal range is crazy and had matured so much. I promise youll love it.
At that time Brian just had open heart surgery, so they decided the begging of the video is Brian in the hospital watching himself on the bed. I think that story makes this video deeper.
Absolutely beautiful song ❤️. It came out December 1999 right before a huge loss in my life. So I listened it to it alot until I healed. I love every BSB song. Every member is so incredibly talented ❤️
Thank you so much for doing the reaction of this masterpiece. It is my favorite song of BSB. The meaning of the lyrics is deep and emotional. Also every member has a part to sing in this song. Same as you AJ gives me chills everytime. Greetings from Chile
I loved the BSB ballads.. this song is one of the best .. , "I want it that way.." it is just so good.. but then there is " Incomplete.". but I have huge love for "Drowning"
This song was released after Brian nearly died from a heart problem and that's why he is in the hospital bed I can feel what he is going through as when I was two my heart stopped twice and I was pronounced dead twice but 32 years after I'm still here thank god
This song is dedicated to Denis Pop who was the swedish producer from the begging of their career. And also there is a little of their own lost. (Kevin has just lost his dad, etc)
The thing that sets you apart from other reactors is that, with each reaction, you share a bit of yourself and your experiences with us. You are very interesting Anton, it seems like you have done a lot of work with yourself. Regarding BSB, I am a big fan of this song. The message, their vocals, top notch!
You can say many things about their music (like "oh, I don't really like the genre they are into") and thats fine but damn you gotta admit they are crazy talented and all five have fantastic voices even from an objective point of view 😍
That one is actualy my favorite, they really showed their talent in this one,and the harms are so spot on and perfect, this song is my reference and the one i chose to show if i want to make discover this band
Their voices are haunting and mournful on this track. I think because of the emotion behind the song it really bled through in their singing and gave it such a gravitas that it's truly a stand alone song of theirs. It's on it's own level.
33 and Straight man Here Also and been a fan since Everybody came out. Always been proud of being a fan of them. But I was always The most popular kid at school (because of my good looks... Still got it, No joke) so No one gave me any shit about being fan of a "boyband" 😅

The BSB’s are my guilty pleasure , it’s unfair to give them that boyband stigma …I always thought they were more than that , crossed genres and demographics Brian had one of the best voices I’ve heard , since he got sick it’s not the same which breaks my heart when I see them live now BUT he defies it all and still sings live …you can’t break his spirit ❤️
I have just finished watching all of your reviews of Bsb and I hope you get a chance to review their recent music as well because all of their greatness is still there today. "No place" "incomplete" "chances" and "don't go breaking my heart" you should check out. They even got a 2020 Grammy nomination for don't go breaking my heart.
I love this song since I first heard it (back when it came out) and as I'm getting older I can relate ever more with it. Your thoughts at the end vibed with my actual situation, so, I think this is the best reaction/analysis on this song I've ever seen so far. Thank you for that :)
You didn't hear their really intense songs yet, react to Incomplete, I Still and Crawling Back to You, they became so mature musically and lyrically over time, their best Album is Never Gone in my opinion it's an absolute Gem💎✨
Each of the sections relates to an experience each of them had in real life. It's been a while, but I believe it was: Brian was filming the video for Everybody and collapsed on set (you can actually see him in the video for everybody looking dazed and confused when they're on the floor) due to an undiagnosed heart problem, the scene with him in the hospital related to that. AJ had a six year long relationship that broke off, so his scenes are about that love sickness. Kevin lost his father when he was young, those videos he's watching are home videos from when he was a kid. Howie lost a sister to Lupus, the girl in the cafe running to him is meant to be her. Nick (this is the one I'm least sure of) had some sort of falling out with family who told him he was useless or something and was out walking alone when he saved someone from being run over. The last one I'm least sure of as that was just told to me way back when and I can't really find anything on it, but the video basically speaks to experiences close to each of their hearts.
My Boys. Definitely one of their best songs. Love the boy band era. It all started with New Kids with me but out of the 90's boy bands Backstreet Boys were my favorite...then NSync. Forget Westlife. Lol Oh...and Brian is my favorite out of the group. Reminds me of myself. "I Need You Tonight" is another one that is up there with emotion.
you should check out their 2000 grammys performance, even if it's just for yourself. they sound incredible and nick riffing at the end is awesome. he's so much better now and has really improved his voice over the years, but i think we all slept on his talent!
This song is so emotional even more when you lost someone close to you. I lost my only really best friend and after he passed away about almost 3 years ago I do not feel myself anymore happy at all. Thanks for the reaction.
Greetings from Texas! I have to say this is pretty much my favorite BSB song. So much thanks for reacting to it as well as your deep commentary. AJ is also my favorite as well - he's just an amazing vocalist! I have to say though, Nick Carter has really come into his own. He did such a great job on the Masked Singer! His version of Britney Spears' Toxic was on point. Hope you can react to one of his performances from there. :)
I LOVE this song. I grew up on this! BSB were the first band I saw live in concert back in 2005 and I've seen them two more times since, I love them SO MUCH
This song follows each of the band members separately in a sad story, until they unite during the instrumental break and final choruses. The video, somewhat darker in tone than any of the band's previous releases, touches on several of the band's real-life issues. Brian had undergone open heart surgery the previous year for a defect he has had since birth. A.J. holds a picture of a girlfriend which is dedicated to a dear friend of his who died in a car accident. The video used footage that represents Kevin and his deceased father. Nick's scene sees him save a woman to represent the fan who almost got run over by a bus. The woman who Howie sees represents his sister, who died a year earlier of the disease Lupus. Additionally, the bus that A.J. rides is marked for "Denniz Street", and is driven by an actor who resembles Denniz PoP (who died in 1998 and produced some Backstreet Boys tracks, besides being the mentor of the song's producer Max Martin). An alternate version of the video was dedicated in his honor.
This song was written by Max Martin when his mentor, producer Dennis Pop, passed away way too young. They created the Cheiron sound that dominated pop in the late 90’s/early 00’s. BSB knew him well too and that’s why the bus says Denniz st. I find it heartbreaking.
I love that you compared the Backstreet Boys to the Avengers! ❤️😂 Really love how you know their names and have such an appreciation for what their voices bring to their group dynamics. I always say that I can't pick a favorite because they all round things out to bring such a perfect balance.
I'm very sure it was AJ that lost his sister, I think Kevin lost his dad - and Brian had his heart surgery. This was singing about all of their tragedies. But it's one of their very best - and the one that will definitely send chills down your spine. This one and I'll Never Break Your Heart are my very favourites for their fantastic harmonies. You are absolutely right, I always liked the Backstreet Boys but this is on a totally different level and I’ve heard it before but now I understand how much more mature they are in this song
What about "All i have to give" by Backstreet Boys? You should do a review. That song has different song producer, not Max Martin as previous songs))). So you should check and react to this.
also hearing you say it’s about someone who died and you didn’t say all you needed to say - after recently losing aaron and seeing the video where nick couldn’t get through this song during the show on the day that aaron died..knowing they were supposed to talk when nick got back from tour a week later but it never got to happen 🥺🥺🥺
Yes he was basically a kid when they debuted and he matured into his voice over the years. He's a power ballad with that soothing voice and overwhelming emotions. Watching him sing even as a child you could just tell that he's feeling every bit of it.
So I was maybe 18/19 when this came out. You are right, there is a maturity change. When As Long as you love me came out I was about 15/16 and it was much more bubblegum pop to get the girls to fancy them and wish they were singing to them personally.
