The Celtic Otherworld | From Annwn to Avalon
Вставка

- The concept of gods and spirits having their own realm connected to ours is found in practically every culture on earth. In the British Isles, the Celtic people shared a similar idea that went by dozens of different names, such as Tir na nOg, Avalon, Mag Mell, Annwn, and more, but together they are collectively known as the Otherworld. Shrouded in mist, sometimes it is seen as a subterranean world or as an island across the sea, where time flows differently, the sun always shines, and its inhabitants want for nothing. The Celtic Otherworld is an enigmatic and magical world appearing in various mythologies of the Celtic lands, from the branches of the Mabinogion, to the tales of the Fenian Cycle, to Arthurian Legend.

VERY excited to see you cover the Otherworld. It's one of my favorite parts of Celtic mythology. Also, beautiful artwork to compliment the narration! 😍
The Otherworld and the magic Woods of the elbs in lord of the ring are very similiar in the feeling they give off

First to comment. Very interesting. I have heard this from various sources.
Thanks for covering the Celtic Otherworld! Always loved tales of King Arthur and of the Fae Folk.
always love celtic and british folklore! Thanks for covering it!
Hm, so Annwn or Avalon was an other worldly dimension existing within our own huh? A paradise or untouched which could be reached by gods, rituals, worthy by heroes, or even by those through magic.
Interesting similar to Norse Mythology of the Nine Realms exist beyond Midgard through the branches of Yggdrasil. The physical and the metaphysical. Yet time differentiates from our own.
Fascinating.
Nice. I remember Avalon from the stories of King Arthur.
Gorgeous! I never knew of the Celtic Otherworld until now.
I like the story of Tir na nog. Hearing it, makes me think of an old TV show "The Knights of Tir na nog.
I remember Avalon from Gargoyles
This time I must say you went for a very dear subject of mine. I was around 12/13 years old and already very much into mythology.I started writing creatively and my one topic for an original story was exactly this one. A world still filled wit magic and magical creatures that exists... In some ways with ours, in some ways in a separate dimension, so to speak. I made it a haven for all magic beings, when human greed became too much to handle. I also made it the explanation of why there isn't magic anymore now.
So yes, this one was pretty special to me. It was a lot like going back to my 12 year old self and exploring every book on mythology that I could get my hands into. Before internet took over, with all the answers at ready in a split second.
Wow,I wrote something similar to all this as described in the video about these magical places and I had never seen anything I had heard about this story and I wrote something super similar,That was really weird It's like I was remembering something instead of writing it down
Great vid......Love your stuff kick on love it❤❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤍💥
I heard that when it’s Halloween the veil between dimensions becomes weakened and supernatural beings can come visit
I LOVE that Rhiannon cover!!!
They forgot the part where Shirou Emiya found his way to Avalon and met King Arthur once more and they lived happily ever after.
Growing up in Ireland I always remember the stories like Oidheadh chloinne Lir, An Rúraíocht, Táin Bó Cúailgne, Fionn Mac Cumhaill ect.
Oisín i dTír na nÓg always stuck with me tge best though. There is more to the story if you heard it told in Ireland, more emotion to it. His goodbye to his fellow Fenians and his father and how he goes off with Niamh ar each draíocht a'rith ar cosa in airde os cionn na farraige. But when you return to your native land you find everyone dead, the people are smaller and weaker then peopleused to be. The magic in the air has vanished, your gods are gone replaced by one. The best quote from the story is "ní lucht comhaimsire domh na daoine" meaning these people are not my people, which rings true. Imagine being thrown 300 years into the future, you would accept death too
I once heard someone say that we should destroy ancient ruins and ban mythology from being documented and taught with the excuse being "they're too pagan" which is a very dumb excuse
@@Greeceiscool Its a ridiculous excuse. While I'm a Catholic, I love Irish pagan myths and legends and my local folklore. Imagine destroying the pyramids of giza because they were pagan. Ridiculous
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 I know, Im not gonna start desecrating my ancestors places of worship that are several thousand years old just because I don't believe it was the true religion
So awesome. Thanks for doing this video.😘❤️🌍
The fact my family name literally means the decendant of Manannan, the guardian of souls...King of the otherworld...is the coolest thing
Otherworld thats the name from the show Tara Duncan
I just found your channel, watched 2 videos, and I'm already obsessed. Brb disappearing into the mist to binge all your other videos, see you on the other side!
MU2024
it's also said that monsters - such as dragons - live in the Otherworld.
What a fantastic video!🙌
❤🤍💙 all your videos mate👍
Could you try to explain the myths of the extinct Celtic Gaul culture please to separate fact from fiction because of the Asterix books.
I like that Fleetwood Mac in the background.
Any Celtic myths about a good wolf spirit
Yes, Na Faoladh or Wolfwalkers. Many great stories about them and even a film called Wolfwalkers
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 interesting anything else
Please make a video about aliens. 👽👾🛸
Why would he? Please don't tell me you believe the "all pagan gods are actually aliens or fallen angels or demons" bs
ENGKANTO AND BIRINGAN.
Not sure why there is an Egyptian eye on the cover image? Yes Egypt had the concept of the underworld too but the northwest didn’t get it from Egypt they got it from ancient north Eurasian mammoth hunters
Thats our channel's logo! If you notice it's also our profile image, in our intro and outro, and on every thumbnail!
