Where you able to use the schematics to confirm that the top saucer is supposed to advance the bonus twice?
I forgot to look! I just looked though on the schematics, and there is a jack to adjust that as a setting. When the ball lands in the top saucer the top eject relay comes on, and the score motor turns around advancing the bonus unit 1 space through that relay.
If you have the jumper installed to make it set to 'liberal', it adds a second switch on the motor, so as the score motor is turning, it scores 1 bonus as usual, but that extra switch then closes and gives you a second bonus advance.

These old EM pinball machines are like steampunk analog computers, thanks for showing us around them. What I really appreciate is your southern laid back attitude, and explanations, wished my dad would have been like that growing up. All he ever did was yell at me for holding the flashlight wrong lol.

I'm always amazed with the engineering genius of these older EM pinball machines. I'm even more amazed how quickly you are able to pinpoint the trouble with these older machines.
Once you mess with them awhile you start seeing how they did it... Eventually it makes sense and you can see what the obvious solution must be. It must have been pretty fun for these folks to design these...
Oh Yeah! This was my favorite game around '76 at Yellowstone Bus Company (deli), Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA. Amazing thing, I remember all the scoring and chimes even. Thanks for refreshing all those memories, may all your scores be double bonus!
Whoever designed the logic in this must have had a boatload of fun.
Yeah you can see how if you got a good designer, and an engineer together at Williams that liked working with each other, you could really figure out some amazing stuff.
The best Friday night viewing on the TV for me. Well done Ron for shorting it. I love all the schematics explanations and I’m beginning to get it, i think? I can also relate to barely being able to see over the top of the playfield, but watching others flip the ball, fascinating. Asking my dad what those machines were called, I remember him saying “they’re called Pin Tables” and I’ve been hooked ever since.
What a handsome machine. The touch-ups, the troubleshooting, the work on the motor board, the score reels was all fantastic as usual. Thanks Ronnie for sharing your awesome skills and knowledge. …when it comes to pinball, … you’re the man!

First time playing a pinball machine was in a bar....and I stood on a beer crate and could barely reach the flipper buttons. HOOKED FOR LIFE! Everytime I see a machine I want to get it...but as I've said, around here people think everything is worth 10 times what it is...
Oh...and SWMBO would have a conniption if every pinball machine and video game from my youth showed up.

It doesn't have one on this particular title, it was more of a Bally thing.... I'm not sure if any of the Williams games had it!
Good mornings... you could use a clipboard to hold your notepad to the right side of center, making a place to put your left hand down to hold everything in place while writing.. btw I'm right handed, but always find a solution for something eventually.. Awesome informative videoes :o)

Ron is pronouncing 'solder' correctly. I reckon it's a brit that's taking issue with the pronunciation.
In NA we say: sä-dər and our friends across the pond would say: säl-də or sōl-də.
All 3 ways are correct for their respective regions. C'mon people. 😉

How to pronounce solder: In the USA, we say it like "sodder", but in the UK, and I believe Australia, they say "sol-der". Reminds me of some wisdom by Steve Martin: "Chapeau means hat. Ouef means egg. It’s like those French have a different word for everything…" OK, let's hear how they pronounce "solder" in Canada, New Zealand, and other English speaking countries. Does anyone in the USA pronounce the "l" in solder? Celebrating differences in this big, crazy ball of water and rock we all live on!
Now that I think of it, I believe Big Clive gets a lot of flack from the US on how he pronounces "sol der". Come on, people! Arguing about that is like arguing about the weather when it's snowing in one place and another is in a drought. I haven't been watching this channel very long, but I'm already starting to say "Come on, people!" a lot.

just got my Grand Prix a few weeks ago. I noticed this week that my L bonus unit has the exact same issues as the one you are troubleshooting. Haven't had a chance to look but I'm guessing it's similar to the mechanical/wear/timing issue you are were having.Good stuff on the schematic help too !! Did you say that the red arrows switch on balls 2 and 4 ?

The Willams "bat" logo is very similar to the Motorola "bat" logo except upside down. I was totally thinking Motorola was manufacturing parts for Williams. 😏

In the UK and Australia I find most will say Solder with the L being noticeable, though it is never a strong emphasis. I find most in the US, particularly the more southern states, say it without the L being really heard. I figure it is just accents. Anyone trying to say you say it wrong is basically saying everyone in that area of the world is saying it wrong.... Every country has it's own accents and that makes words sound a certain way. Blah. Sorry I am ranting as well. I'll shutup now :)

You are right but has anyone tried machining the flippers out of brass then coating them with 4 or 5 layers of rubber cement.
What is the loud hum when you start the game ? It sounds like a coil is stuck on.
So many moving parts. Seems like they would need a whole lot of maintenance

What video editor do you use?
I'm very old school man so I can't tell you which one is the best, I am kind of more interested in simpler ones... so I used to use Windows Movie Maker (the OLD one) but unfortunately it got to the point where it hadn't been updated in 10 years so the codecs were pretty bad and couldn't be updated. The new codecs were so much better that the file size is about a FOURTH of the old codecs, so I had to move to a new program. After trying a few, I settled on Shotcut, which I really like. It's open source and free and frequently updated. Not as powerful as the Adobe stuff but I don't want to support Adobe if I can help it anyway :)
The switch provides Active Feedback to the CPU to tell it the ball is not in play yet, but it is waiting for player to start

I can't seem to find a Grand Prix for sale anywhere. However I could buy an Aztec and a Grand Prix playfield. I'm thinking of putting the Grand Prix playfield in the Aztec. Some major Frankenstein work required... Did anybody try such a hack?

@@LyonsArcade I'm against ruining things that work. Was thinking of some kind of interface board between the playfield and the rest of the machine. You would just disconnect the Jones plugs. Or maybe create an electronic mech board ...

Solder is pronounced "sodder". Like grass sod. To pronounce sodder as "soulder" is probably the result of folks who rarely interact in person and pronunciate based on the text they see. After years of incorrectly assuming it's pronounced soulder is resulting in a generation with their own accent. I've worked with professional engineers for 50+ years and nobody ever pronounces solder as "soulder". Please say it properly people :p

Your accent doesn't sound like N Carolina or S Carolina. It sounds like there is some Western states, like Nevada, New Mexico, that area. It is a mix of two regions, but I can't tell what regions

There is a lot wrong with this game. It took a lot to repair all the problems.
Canadians pronounce the “l” in solder, it drives me nuts. It’s only people trying to be superior.🤷♂️
Not all of us, I skip the "l" and hate the u in many words like mould. But to me the last letter of the alphabet will always be Zed.
