  • Dice Setting 101. In this video I'll share with you all you need to know about Dice Setting and not get caught up in all the complicated stuff. Also as a Bonus, I'll teach you how to set the dice quickly, how to transition to other dice sets in a spit second, and many other great tips that other dice setting videos don't share.

I'll offer you a tip since I've been playing craps for 26 years (I'm 51). Use different colored dice and set the dice (left / right) the same color. This allows you to actually see what's happening to each of the dice as you practice your settings and your throws. (eg set a red on the left and a blue on the right). Now you can see when you throw what happened to the red (left) and the blue (right). This helps you determine axis and rotations. You should also monitor your dice throwing with video so you can examine your throw thoroughly. I find sometimes it's better to find a throwing motion that is not only comfortable, but not tiring. There's nothing worse than if you get into a long throwing session and you suddenly tire and you don't throw properly. Last, your feet are the most important piece. I plant one foot and never move that foot my entire throwing session. Moving your feet around, regardless of your throwing motion, will offset what you do in that throwing motion. If you are left handed lock your left foot in place. If you are right handed, lock your right foot in place. The weight should occur on the foot that is locked. Also, if you want to practice a good throw and you are practicing arm swing or hand swing, one of the things I learned over time is to use a wrist strap. Tighten the wrist strap considerably and it will lock your wrist in place. Now you only have to concentrate on method of throwing motion. Once you have that throwing motion down, take off the strap and your wrist muscle memory takes place. Here's my throwing motion (and again, my motion may not work for you but you can practice the philosophy when you create your own natural throwing motion). 1) I'm right handed so I lock my right foot in place. That foot never moves. Weight is placed on that foot during the throw. 2) I rub my fingers on my pants leg, not the table until I feel the heat. As I set the dice, my fingers cool but remain dry. 3) I set the dice to match what scenarios I've practiced and am going after. Regardless, I'm looking for dice consistency with numbers. 4) I manually lock my wrist in place. 5) I manually lock my elbow in place. 6) When I throw the dice, my arm swings like a pendulum, locked at the elbow and the wrist and it is similar in movement to a golfer's putt. Last, and most importantly, you can have off nights where your mechanics just aren't right or you aren't focused. On those nights, leave, practice at home and return the next day instead. Also, you should practice just before you go to the casino to ensure you are in the right mindset. Take care and love the hat, shirts and logo!!

Thank you for taking the time to share all of this information. I have used different colored dice to do what you said but after thousands of throws I have trained my eye to see which dice is what so I don’t do it no more. I agree that your stance is also important and I don’t move from my stance as much as possible. If you’d like to order some apparel for yourself you can check out my online store at www.HCSstore.com

Love your lessons. Followed the 4 4 dice set this past week in Vegas. Threw a 18 in Ellis Island, a 19 in Harrah, and a whopping 24 rolls at Circus Circus (electronic hybrid table). It might of been longer at Circus Circus, but the pit boss stopped my roll for 5 minutes (technical difficulties), and so they said. I 7 out right after. Happy New Year to you and your team. May 2023 bring you happiness and prosperity

Excellent class, I was having some trouble with the right die floating above the left. The correction I found that fixed it was to set the middle fingers first then bring on the ring finger. That was major, keeping the dice spinning together . Wow HCS is by far the best advisory channel I've seen. The advice on bouncy tables, I was just out in Vegas and encountered that. Like you said I had to move my impact zone back until they stayed in. I literally bounced the dice off the table 3 times which is really annoying. I dont have a real table at home yet so that advice saved my sessions. I'm using plywood under the felt so it's a harder surface and their isnt as much bounce as Vegas! As always HCS top notch in my book, I'll be buying some Merch soon, thank you!

Great video Bryan . Enjoy all your videos very much, and I'm gonna follow you guys to see how it all adds up. Long time craps player, I'm 66 and been to Vegas many times. Also Atlantic City, Australia, Europe , and numerous cruise ships. I can't claim to be a lucky shooter, although I did have a 65 min roll at the old Vegas Club back in the day. Also was at the first one hour roll ever at the Main Street station when a elder Japanese man from Hawaii rolled for an hour and twenty. We can all claim our share of winning and losing trips. Win or lose , no one has more fun than me, but I have to admit to losing more than winning over the years. I have my doubts as to whether we can affect the outcome by setting the dice. Still, if I see you guys at the casino, I hope I can join in with your shoot. The odds at the craps table can be the best bet in the casino and if we can at least nudge them a bit in our favor that might give us a fighting chance in the long run. Good luck.

Im glad to hear another person besides myself carries dices in the car. LOL! Like a pitcher on the mound throwing baseball at a specific target within the strike zone and having different combos to do it, a dice controller needs to do the same. Table position (LS1,LS2,RS1,RS2),dice grip, release and pitch, (LZ)landing zone, speed, and dice setting combos will definitely set you apart from the rest of the shooters. Really really appreciate the tips on moving between the sets quickly. I practice speed setting all the time and that's a great nugget..
Now, have to give you some grief about trying to hurt the "don't betters" ... It's kinda BS to try and cost a fellow player money. And most of us don't betters aren't purely rooting against you. Most of play in a way that we make BANK while you're hitting numbers but are protected from the eventual 7. I love a 30 roll as much as anyone, and have a little bit of a safety net.
We're all in it together. Some of us just do different math and work out betting strategies to protect our bankroll. It's especially important for those of us (like myself) that are still working on dialing in our dice setting. Hedging allows for live practice.
    Show the love ... Mahalo!

Still trying to perfect my technique, after a few years I have a nice set up at home to practice with and use casino grade dice, when experimenting with different sets there is certainly a pattern to how the dice behave with each set, that being said i recently tracked and recorded 700 rolls using the same set and it yields 5,6,8,9 being the most frequent numbers and of course the 7 leads the group every time with the 6 and 8 close behind, it is truly amazing.........

In all my years, Ive only witnessed 1 dice setter that truly seemed to control the results (even then it wasnt a home run). Lots have tried- myself included, but I am finding huge variables in the tables themselves. While I had some luck at the Cromwell getting the dice to die quickly and not bounce too hard..the table at Gold Coast was like a trampoline. Any skill i had was completely negated by the lively table. You also have different size tables, and now even non-felt surfaces....i wont give up...but its a near impossible task.

Each number on each die has a 1 in 6 chance of coming up, no matter HOW you throw it so it bounces off the back wall. When you put two dice in play, you have a 2.7% chance of the die coming up how you "set them". Two Point Seven Percent. FFS.

What are you thoughts on using the all seven set after the come out roll? A few people I know use that set and throw it in the hook of the table to get off axis. Random rolling basically?

    • @HawaiiCrapsShooters
      @HawaiiCrapsShooters  3 роки тому +1

If they are random rolling, then no setting is necessary. Random is Random. Now if they are influencing the dice and setting the all 7’s and throwing it with a controlled throw and it works then I say to them to continue to use it. Everybody has their own body mechanics so as long as it’s consistent to the player then it’s all good. 👍

just came back from the casino and wanted to implement your information. Today we didn't make money but I now see why I' 7-out in just a few rolls. Damn 6-1 combo keeps killing me. How/Where are the dice supposed to land, if and only when I can stop double pitching? Ideally what's the landing supposed to look like, 3/3 or 4/4 depending on what combo is on top, when it lands on the table? in a perfect world, would you like to see both dice 3/3 or 4/4 up and hitting the table with the opposite numbers? Landing the pairs on the felt all the time?

I like to roll at around 6 am in the morning because that's usually when the drunkards are gone home and the table is pretty dead. If I cannot get up in time then 10 am is my next time slot. That's when they open a new table and I can easily slide into my spot, stick left. My next time slot would be around 6 pm. Tables are kinda busy but usually everyone is out to dinner. I don't like to shoot after 9 pm because tables get crazy. I like to shoot on the slow days too, Sunday to Thursday.

Hey Bryan, I really like this video. It's very informative, plus you even brought out something I do when I use the 3V set. I do the same thing--having the V on the bottom, for the same reason. Some people have told me that that the casinos don't mind, but a little preventive medicine to keep the casinos off your back, can go a long way. ☺
Quick question: Do you use a different dice set for different positions at the table? I, myself, use the Hardway dice set for my favorite position, Stick Left 1, but shooting from the end, I use either the 3V set, or what I call the Yo-Yo dice set (6/5-5/6). What is your take on using different dice sets for different position at the table?

    • @HawaiiCrapsShooters
