Let's Build A Torsen Arm! : RC1 : Part 22 : Scooter Engine Case And Axle Support DIY

  • Torsen arms help to support the engine cases and axle on scooters where the engine cases act as the swingarm. You can buy torsen arms for popular scooter engine types, but sometimes it's interesting and challenging to build your own... so let's try it! BTW, some people call them torsion arms, but that's something different and not generally for scooters and mopeds.

      Scooters have got me so used to it enough that now I use both. Standard is easier for me with a lot of things because I'm used to picturing them that way or the lathe has thousandths of an inch on the dial for example. Metric is not my native tongue, but I can have a conversation. lol

    Salut, esthétiquement je me suis pas fan de la pièce mais j'apprécie vraiment le travail et la précision pour réaliser cette pièce. C'est évidemment un pièce nécessaire quand le moteur a cette puissance. Bonne continuation À bientôt.

    KN actually makes one of these for the Honda Dio where it even has a shock mount built in so you can make the engine dual shock. That would probably help distribute the stress on the engine even more.

    when tapping on a lathe, use the counter point to center the tap, there is a little hole in the tap for that

    nice work dude :) there is probably a lot of powder coating on your rims... next time get them painted, it will last just as well

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 місяці тому +1

      I've been really happy with the powder coated wheels. 2nd set I've had done. I think they process of melting powder smooths everything out well so they clean up easier than any painted wheels I've had. I don't actually plan to have them redone real soon. I'm too broke for that so what I have will go to replacing pistons and engine parts due to flat slides. lol

      @@49ccscoot know it all too well myself. scooter parts are expensive. that's why i've gone back to water cooled tpr2 70cc... right now i'm waiting for my china vforce reed. polini 32 pwk are weird. personally I think that over 28mm is too big as pwk, since the original pwk is 28mm. I had the dellorto vhsh on my 94cc testarosa, and before that a minkuni tmx32mm, I would say the dellorto vhsh gave really good power, over the whole powerband. the model i used was 09303. it is satup for scooter.

    Hell yeah Brent I need to do this same thing. But I've got a chinarillia long case. Got a racing set up on mine rn so it would be nice to have a torsion arm. Keep up the great videos. And hopefully one day we can go ride around OC. I'm in southern Maryland "Calvert".

    Is there any benefits other than "Hardening" the engine block?
    And Will i could do the same with a "short minarelli" engine?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Місяць тому

      You could do the same with many scoot engines. Different measurements and such. It supports the axle. One example was a guy on my forum talked about scooter cross racing breaking gearbox components so a torsen had to be used. I hope it changes the asymmetrical rear tire wear.

    Hello, nice video
    I have just fitted a new Black Polini Torson WD .. and of course it has no effect in that sense, but without hesitation I can say with certainty that it gives so much support to the rear rim of an Aerox that the very resistance as it is now in such a minarelli gearbox, it is more or less almost reduced in my opinion.
    I tried the other day to go for a ride without my Polini Torson WD mounted, and then turn off the scooter in a specially marked place while it was up to speed and let it roll, is that possible?
    then I tried to do exactly the same thing again just with the Polini Torson WD fitted, at the same top speed and turn off the scooter again in the same marked place and let it roll again, my Scooter actually rolled almost 483 cm longer with the Polini Torson WD fitted.
    so as far as a Yamaha Aerox is concerned, I would think it worth the work and money to mount such a Torson WD
    If you have an email, you can see the Aerox project I am building up..

      Nice. Ideally you'd probably test resistance with no engine/clutch input, but sounds like a good result. Check my site for email.

    All your work looks so nice, but now I have watched your video again quite a few times now, and I had seen it coming that your Torson WD would hit your Aerox Rim, But what concerns me the most is actually that your Torson WD does not protect your engine in the way it is built for ... your Torson WD should probably work against damage as long as the engine is bent either up towards the sun or down towards the sea
    and this is not at all the problem with the types of engine that you and I have... the reason the Polini torson WD was made is because the type of Minarelli engine breaks apart, in the same way as when you wring a dishcloth dry of water,
    This happens in more or less the same way on such a motor when it is exposed to much more torque and twist than it was built for.
    and when you give full throttle to your engine, then the many HP you release at once, and then the pressure comes to the gearbox and is felt out to the large secondary gearing where the rear wheel engages, and then the problem comes, because the engine twists so as long as the rear rim is only held and clamped on a single axle, then polini made a Torson WD, in order to give the rear rim this with support, so the rim now for the possibility of being clamped outside the gearbox also so technically now is clamped in both sides, in the same way as when we rode old mopeds where you had to fasten the rear wheel with the help of a bolt on the left and right side....
    and your Torson tightens the rear wheel well enough, and also keeps the engine in tension so that it breaks, but twisted, your Torson WD does not help anything against .... and that is where you experience all the positives of such a Tprson WD

    would such a Polini torson fit your model .. It is the one that has the following item no by Polini. [ 172.0016 ] I'm sorry, it looks like it could go on your Minarelli engine, even if it looks a bit like your engine is a copy of an original Minarelli engine

      I think they have to be made for the C or RC-One. It's based on Piaggio, but it's different enough that I don't think the Piaggio kits work.
