Carpenters, Your Wonderful Parade (1969).
From their debut album "Offering" (released October 9, 1969), Your Wonderful Parade was originally set for release as a single, but was shifted to the B-side of the powerful Ticket to Ride -- the first of their 27 singles to reach Billboard's Hot 100 -- which peaked at #54 on May 8, 1970.
Lyrics by John Bettis, music by Richard Carpenter.
Your wonderful parade,
Moving through the towns that rise and then they fade,
Over streets that pass the houses where you've stayed,
Your wonderful parade.
Your daily masquerade,
(Your daily masquerade)
Paper masks behind this face that you have made,
Crumble down upon foundations that you've laid,
Your daily masquerade.
Stand in line, try to climb,
Meet your wife at cocktail time,
Surely you should try and choose a better way to fall.
Your marvelous charade,
(Your marvelous charade)
Never could be worth the prices that you've paid,
Blindness is a part of every game you've played,
Your marvelous charade.
Stand in line, try to climb,
Meet your wife at cocktail time,
Surely you should try and choose a better way to fall.
Your marvelous charade,
(Your marvelous charade)
Never could be worth the prices that you've paid,
Blindness is a part of every game you've played,
Your marvelous charade.

A wonderful song. Thanks for posting.
Thanks! I'm new to thing song.
That signature layered vocals they so often used. There were a lot of good songs on Offering. You can here the similarity of this song with "Close to You" which was out soon after this. Such strong lyrics, when I finally read the lyrics closely.
Picked it up at a record stand last week and surprised at how underrated this debut album is.
Thank you so much for this rare gem! I loved this song as a kid when this album came out.
