Dawn Scott. The biggest mistake US Soccer made in 2019 was letting Dawn go. When it was announced she was leaving the team, my heart dropped because I just knew the team was not gonna be the same without her. This whole conversation has been eye opening, and I pray that clubs/national teams all across the world continue to invest in the women's game through research, etc. Dawn Scott...you rock! Loved this episode. Chris and Tobes truly are doing a wonderful job with these guests and interviews. Love it!
The guest selection is impeccable, having a high-level sports science impact on the team in that time is truly revolutionary. Professional, insightful, and forward-thinking, as always. Tobin Heath, not the coach we deserve but the coach we need.
This show has seriously been a light in the darkness (The darkness being the USWNT struggling in the WWC and as a spectator trying and failing to make sense of what’s going on)
2 SHOTS on GOAL. Not enough people are speaking on how solid our defense was through 4 games. We only allowed 2 shots on goal through 4 games and only one of those shots ended up being a goal! That’s actually insane. Yes we have soo many things to improve, but having a strong defense is a great place to start.
@@LJ_S1K first 50 minutes versus Netherlands and 85 minute onwards versus Portugal. USWNT attack was always very wasteful (since probably 2016, but we can find instances of that tracing all the way back to 99ers) so to get a few goals USWNT needs two-three times the number of chances they had, it was usually 5-6 good chances to get a single goal. The only exceptions were 2008-2012 Olympics finals with Carli/Hope Solo doing things on both ends.
I never want this to end. I absolutely love hearing how passionate Tobin is about USWNT and football in general. I know for years we heard people say that but to actually hear her speak just blows my mind every time. Love that we also got to hear from Dawn who is a genius in what she does. Just amazing episode thank you!
Like Tobin said, anyone that followed this team closely for the last few years knew this wasn't coming together right. They never really connected, and just getting by became OK.
that particular game was probably the best under the entire Vlatko tenure. What has to be said is that USWNT really needs a towering striker in those knockout moments when they ran out of creative ideas. A player of Abby Wambach height could have found a way. also giving up on a huge set pieces advantage USWNT had before wasn't a good idea. back in 2019 only 2 PKs got USWNT over the line in the Rof16 in a pretty poor game v Spain. If Rose didn't make the most of that contact with a Spanish defender, then USWNT could have been out in the Rof16 even back then.
Yeah, I noticed the disconnection by the 2nd game under Vlatko. I made comments about it & got criticized for it, but now I laugh at those who threw hate on me because I was right. It was more than obvious that there were tactical & disconnection issues among the players, especially as time went on. There shouldn't be a deterioration within the team that has been playing together for a long time. Even when the new girls came in, they had enough time to bond but never did. It was a red flag when Christen wasn't getting called up anymore in that moment is when it was more than obvious it was because of Vlatko! Here we are now, disqualified. Thanks U.S Federation!
I just LOVE hearing Tobin and Christen talk about this World Cup so passionately. I couldn’t agree more on everything they said. These players are all amazing and we’re not set up right to win a major tournament. Very proud of all of the older players, Kelley, Megan, Alyssa, Alex, Julie, and Becky, they all have paved a way and set an example for these younger players. (Tobin and Chris too) I have no doubt that the mindset, confidence, and domination is done for this team. (Laura where are you) Also shoutout to Sweden’s captain Asllani, she spoke so well about the game and team and I have mad respect to her and Sweden as a team.
The daily discussion was phenomenal as always! Love the way Christen is so eloquent and is always able to reframe every situation and explain the bigger picture. You can really see all the passion and love that Tobin has for the players and the game. I just hope this show will continue past the world cup because the conversations with the in-studio guests are amazing and not just about soccer, but about life.
Asllani had me in tears. I wish more uswnt fans had more of an outlook like she does. It’s like all the respect for the team and the players is gone and it’s heartbreaking
The gift and tact y'all have in saying "these are the reasons why Vlatko is the issue, without saying his name" is something else. Heartfelt and respectful. Great episode, superb guests as always. Booking Asllani right after the win and my love and respect for Dawn knows no bounds. Just fantastic all around.
It's not only about the rest of the world catching up - although they certainly have. But it's also that the USWNT has gone *backwards* under Andonovski. He has to go.
Have been saying for months USSF made a huge mistake hiring him when Jill Ellis retired, but then made an even worse mistake not firing him after the Tokyo Olympics
exactly also that "the world has caught up" excuse doesn't work with the USWNT. Outside of Portugal who have definitely stepped up their game recently, the tough match ups for the US were the Netherlands and Sweden who have been in the upper echelon of women's soccer for years now. I'm tired of this excuse, because even if they have caught up, it shouldn't matter since we're the freakin USWNT and the #1 ranked team in the world. Let them catch up, it should only make us stronger. The issues with this particular organization is internal and systemic, not because of external pressure from other countries. I could see where that effects the men's team, but the women's team should still be the best in the world, and they currently aren't.
It's not just vladko look at the u20 and u 17 teams they haven't won anything since 2012. There is talent but it's not being developed correctly at the younger levels
This is such a great show. Having played adult women's soccer for 35 years, starting when I was close to 30, I have watched both Tobin and Christen for their entire adult careers and the minute I heard about this show, I knew it would be full of on-point analysis. It has surprised me, though, with the topflight guests, and great inside info on the National Team, in general. This episode with Dawn Scott was fabulous. You can't hear this kind of discussion about women's athletics anywhere else. Thank you, thank you for this gem!
I could listen to Dawn for hours, this is fascinating and the kind of depth that we NEVER get to see in women’s sports coverage! Thank you for this show, Tobin and Christen 🙏
Been waiting for this since the end of the game. Grateful for y’all’s commentary and heartbroken for the team. Hoping this is the learning opportunity it can be. 🧡
Had no idea about Dawn Scott or her legacy. what a brilliant scientific mind with so much dedication to the sport and the players. Thank you for giving her a platform with a great interview!
This show has not only had great analysis and stories of the USWNT's past, it has also been an extraordinarily important antidote to a whole lot of nonsense that's been said about this year's USWNT. There are real problems with the program and you've been tough, but fair, about them. But the players do not deserve all the hate...especially from MAGAts who don't even care about football. You and your teammates have been great not only for the game, but for women and girls across the country and the world. As a father of a daughter, thank you!. She's not a football player or even an athlete, but she and all other young women have more possibilities thanks to y'all.
So, I followed up listening to your interview with Dawn Scott. Magnificent! Whether the absolute goal is about winning at all costs, or maximizing profits, way too many leaders forget that you can’t get there without cultivating relationships. In the world of the super powerful and rich, Dawn would be seen as a minor player, even a nobody. you guys who actually played the game know how crucial a role she played And you rightfully honored her in front of all of us. I love you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤
now these are the analysis worth listening to from two of the best football players. i hope the series continue beyond the world cup. i need more in-depth comments from these two. just phenomenal!
Gutted for our team. Props to Sweden for a clean game. I wish Lynn had started. For the pks, I wish Lynn & Julie had taken them. Alyssa had a monster game. We will be back! 🇺🇸
This show is therapy and football analysis, all with great chemistry and professionalism from the hosts. This is what I'm waiting for after each game, thank you for putting them out so quickly after each USA game!
I’M so glad you interviewed Kosovare Asllani. She is one of my most favorite players. And I love the Swedish team. The world is full of critics, as absolutely anyone can be a critic. No skin in the game, just lots of negative opinions. Asllani reminds us of Title IX which broke in the 70s as I recall. We have been leading the world in women’s sports since then. We in the US are so sucked into the glorious stories of who we are: Manifest Destiny, American Exceptionalism, God’s favored land, and by God, “We’re #1”. You can see this in the fans. So our expectations are out of sight. So when our teams fall short we look for someone to blame. Such an American habit ! Tobin, I loved your analysis in a previous video in which you looked at some of the big picture structural things that, in our rush to find blame, we completely overlook. I’m an 86 year old white guy who is committed to dismantling white supremacy, patriarchy, and racism, all of which are not personal but structural issues. I also totally love women’s soccer/football and watch NWSL as well as European games. In addition to Kosovare and her teammates, I love Danielle Van de Donk, Lieke Martens, Marie Antoinette Kototo, Delphine Cascarino…and the list goes on. Football is the beautiful game, especially when played by the women! Bless both of you for your incredible insights.
Love every bit of this episode. The passion from Tobin and Christen about the team and then the huge amount of education that Dawn has been apart of providing for Women athletes. Amazing! Also, I feel ya on the motion sickness Tobin, it sucks.
Seeing all these pictures and videos of Alex immediately hit the floor when the team lost was heartbreaking. I don’t understand how ANYONE can make the decision to do any of this.
Heartbreaking? She essentially made the team play a man down as she acted as a ghost. The team couldn't take advantage of Sophia Smith because Alex Morgan was the center striker... doing nothing. She shouldn't have even played past minute 45.
@@nottoomuch87 people handle their emotions differently. how do u know if marta broke down in her hotel room? there's nothing wrong with feeling sad. plus, alex literally looks fine now.
Blistering, passionate commentary that only USWNT players can really give. Tobin and Christen have given such laser-focused, no-holds barred assessment with class. It made me sad to see them both in tears but I could feel their frustration for both their teammates and their coaching staff. So happy to see their balance: passionate frustration but also positivity towards lessons learned and growth into potential. “Was the group as a whole prepared?” Excellent food for thought, Tobin 👏🏽👏🏽 I adore Asllani, always have as well as Dawn Scott. ❣️
Refreshing candor and raw emotion on display here. We need to sort these feelings, reject mediocrity, as Tobin said, and find a stronger path forward. Really glad these ladies are part of this year's WWC experience for me!
Ah my heart broke when Tobin got so emotional about the state of the team. Kudos to you both for addressing the other comments in such a respectful and mature way, you're absolutely right in that the team was not set up to succeed. Hope to see Tobin getting called up as a technical coach for the team
Christen and Tobin, I love how personally you take it, that your friends and teammates were not set up to succeed. That is why this is so deeply personal and heartbreaking for you. You are incredible teammates.
Thank you, Asllani, for your amazing much needed words. Thank you re-inc for this much needed show. This comment section is the only place where the comments aren't littered with hateful commentary about these amazing USWNT athletes. I so needed this.
Thanks for the show! You two are talking of the same things we are thinking at home and we have no voice. And yes, our goal keeper is so modest and she is the most dedicated player ever. Did you see her running and bringing Rodman a piece of gum when she got hurt ? I could not believe it.
Alyssa Naeher has always been one of those players that always showed up in the big tourneys despite the media and idiot fans saying she wasn't good enough. Just because she's not flashy like players of the past and present, she truly has been outstanding as our #1 the past few years. Her and Becky Sauerbrunn truly have been solid for our backline on and off the pitch.
Substitutions and in-game tactical changes is an issue in my opinion. Rapino and O'Hara missing their PKs is a horrible way to end their World Cup careers. I feel that was way too much pressure to put on Sofia Smith in the PK round. In the end, I think a coaching change is definitely needed to resolve the issues, and may I suggest a new coach who is a great communicator and tactical strategist.
I was praying it wasn’t Sophia stepping up to take that ok. Not because I don’t believe in her but, that pressure on such a young player was gonna be too much. Hopefully she gets stronger for the experience
It was sad to see Rapino play in this tournament. When she had the free kick she couldn’t drive it like she used to. Her corners were not lethal so I believe we had to have other as options
What a great interview with Asllani. Love the comadre with the international players because they've played with each and against each other; they're each other's counterparts within their countries. It's pretty cool to see and sends an inspiring message to the rest of the world.
What an AMAZING interview with Asllani! You can see why she is the Captain! Best POD yet! Keep it up! Ps also Love seeing Tobin fired up & to near tears & then Christen come in say everything Tobin couldn't because she is so fired up! You guys do have chemistry! Sincerely, Old white dude Geez I commented too soon! The Dawn Scott interview was 10 out of 10! What an amazing asset & even more AMAZING person. Thank you for sharing her with us!!!
Gosh, I cannot agree more with literally everything these two have said. I grew up idolizing the USWNT, and remember being on the edge of my seat for some incredible moments because I always KNEW that the team could do ANYTHING. And I just didn't feel like that this time around, and I don't feel like the team felt like they could do it either. Tobin, you are and have always been a hero to me, as has Press, and I can't thank you both enough for being so honest and raw.
This show is a breath of fresh air. The commentary is on point and Tobin you have always been my fav player. Your 1 v 1 ability was out of this world. Hope this loss doesn’t break the next generation as I don’t know whose left to inspire that killer instinct anymore.
Tobin and Christen speaking FACTS here! Thanks for sharing the truth. This performance was just not good enough for the USWNT and it all goes back to the coach and his decisions.
Once again, the way Tobin expresses her feelings towards our last match is pure passion. The love for the game, and love for each individual player and friend. You can hear how angry she is, and you can also see and hear her trying not to choke up. It actually made me sad because of the way she was working herself up. And you could tell Christen wanted to console her in that moment. As for Dawn, you can clearly see how the trainer-player dynamic acts like a student looking up to their teacher. You can't have an athlete at their peak without an elite trainer by their side. As for a coach, all they pretty much have to do is hype up the players and make the roster. And everyone can tell, even Dawn, Tobin, and Christen, *SOMEONE* is not doing their job. #endperiodstigma #firevlatko
Dawn! So fascinating to hear about her world, such a good interview. And how awesome that we got to hear from Asllani? Love that she had our backs with our journalist. And all of the emotions about the game…I appreciate the realness.
Girma was the standout for me. still baffled at some of the choice the coach made. Thank for this podcast because it is painful to listen to other "commentary" out there.

Is no one going to talk about Kristie Mewis? Her first ever touch at a World Cup was a beautiful and well taken pk! She debuted at the WC 2 minutes before the shootout started, how insane is that! I'm not sure why Vlatko calls her up when he never gives her any minutes. She had one chance to prove why she was there and she did phenomenal! I feel bad for her because it seemed like she was very ecstatic to have made the roster for the first time at age 32 & perhaps it may be her last. She only got 2 minutes on the field & 1 touch on the ball just to get disqualified. I feel for her, she deserved better. Hope her & Sanchez are doing okay

Tobin you are 100% right. The complacency of this team making the round of 16 shows they didn’t have the right mentality. We need to blow it up and rebuild.
Tobin’s daily discussion was exactly how I felt the entire game. It brought back 2011 WC final feelings that broke my heart all over agin for this team. Still trying to process this one but really hopeful for the future of the players and team.

It was her decision to go. She wanted to take her studies to a larger scale
i felt this same way too when she left
Props Tobinho for the shoutout to Sonny. She, Fox, and Girma had a great performance.
So much respect for Asllani and her team. A true leader and sport. So proud of the USWNT! Thank you Tobin and Christen for this.
The guest selection is impeccable, having a high-level sports science impact on the team in that time is truly revolutionary. Professional, insightful, and forward-thinking, as always. Tobin Heath, not the coach we deserve but the coach we need.
Asllani. What a star. Absolute legend for our national team🇸🇪
Showed so much class too! 👏
If US was gonna be beat I’m glad it was by Sweden. Rooting for them to get theirs. Talented and very likable team. Good luck!
But she played poor. Maybe the age..
She's a star
💯⭐️
This show has seriously been a light in the darkness
(The darkness being the USWNT struggling in the WWC and as a spectator trying and failing to make sense of what’s going on)
2 SHOTS on GOAL.
Not enough people are speaking on how solid our defense was through 4 games. We only allowed 2 shots on goal through 4 games and only one of those shots ended up being a goal! That’s actually insane. Yes we have soo many things to improve, but having a strong defense is a great place to start.
it's been our lifeline almost every tournament
I am afraid a better attack may only come at the expense of defensive play getting worse
@@heppolo Did we play defensive this tournament? I do not think we did.
Hard to believe they gave up one goal in 4 games and find themselves out of the tournament.
True but if you said it loud people called you a hater. It isn’t being a hater, it is being realistic
Carli Lloyd essentially said the same thing and everyone went after her. She's right. Tobins right. This team hasn't looksd right for years now.
@@a12martinez23 all roads lead to Vlat for sure....
(Tobin and Chris too)
I have no doubt that the mindset, confidence, and domination is done for this team. (Laura where are you)
Also shoutout to Sweden’s captain Asllani, she spoke so well about the game and team and I have mad respect to her and Sweden as a team.
I love hearing Tobin's passion about the team. The shade towards the coaching was *chefs kiss*
Also, shoutout to Koso Asllani. Classy, classy player and an absolute fantastic baller who deserves more plaudits to her name on the world's stage.
Yes Sonnett had herself a game. I was so happy for her and it sucks that she worked so hard for that result.
Have been saying for months USSF made a huge mistake hiring him when Jill Ellis retired, but then made an even worse mistake not firing him after the Tokyo Olympics
spot on
exactly also that "the world has caught up" excuse doesn't work with the USWNT.
@@jennym7786 💯
Dawn Scott was fascinating. Your emotional reaction to the loss was pure and touching. Nailed it again!
I could listen to Dawn for hours, this is fascinating and the kind of depth that we NEVER get to see in women’s sports coverage! Thank you for this show, Tobin and Christen 🙏
I absolutely love Tobins passion … fist 20 minutes nearly brought me to tears lol
Your interviews elevate your episodes to a level that nobody can imitate.
Sonnett, Girma, and Alyssa were incredible
Don’t forget Ertz.
Bless both of you for your incredible insights.
this was such a thoughtful comment! i appreciated reading it
We need more guys like you, in our country! 😊
I love Tobin's attitude and agree with her thoughts regarding the US program.
Christian is a good balance for her, and I hope this program continues.
The fact this just happened and y’all are releasing the new episode already… insane 🔥 thank you ❤
Love every bit of this episode.
I don’t understand how ANYONE can make the decision to do any of this.
alex looking defeated broke my heart. am, cp and th were my 3 fav players growing up :((
Heartbreaking? She essentially made the team play a man down as she acted as a ghost. The team couldn't take advantage of Sophia Smith because Alex Morgan was the center striker... doing nothing. She shouldn't have even played past minute 45.
@@morgan2607 morgan is not creative at all, she is a gazelle type who hopes to run past the defenders and shoot to score.
I don't get why she broke down like that. She has won back-to-back world cups. Marta handled herself far better, and she has never won.
Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear gloves. Absolutely admire Alyssa Naeher.
Tobin you should be the coach. With that Passion you would lead the Team to return to the USA the legacy that you left. Thanks for that summary.❤
Did O'Hara say this was the last World Cup for her?
@elccollins99 Miss O'Hara is 35 years old, and will be nearly 40 by the next World Cup event. Highly likely she retires before the next World Cup.
They shouldn't be in the game if they can't handle the process.
Sincerely,
Old white dude
Geez I commented too soon!
The Dawn Scott interview was 10 out of 10! What an amazing asset & even more AMAZING person. Thank you for sharing her with us!!!
Tobin and Christians input is gold!! Thank you for a really interesting show with great conversation keep up the wonderful work take care
I really enjoyed this episode. Dawn Scott needs to write a book!
Another fun, informative episode, guests no one else could get or talk to with this level of familiarity. Sound quality was great. 10/10.
I watched all the Re-cap types of programs this Word Cup. Your is BY FAR the best! This is great.
This show is a breath of fresh air. The commentary is on point and Tobin you have always been my fav player. Your 1 v 1 ability was out of this world. Hope this loss doesn’t break the next generation as I don’t know whose left to inspire that killer instinct anymore.
So appreciate the openness and vulnerability y'all discussed this loss with. Thanks for sharing your hearts and your minds with us
Tobin and Christen speaking FACTS here!
And all of the emotions about the game…I appreciate the realness.
the show just keeps getting better and better! so amazed by Tobin and Christen's vulnerability
Girma was the standout for me. still baffled at some of the choice the coach made.
Thank for this podcast because it is painful to listen to other "commentary" out there.
Alyssa is an American hero
I love listening to Tobin. She would make an excellent coach.
THANK YOU FOR GIVING THIS SPORTS SCIENCE STUDENT AN IDOLS MASTER CLASS. Will write a longer novel on Re-Space. But ugh... Just like Idlan needed out on the Harvey and Ellis episodes from a coaching perspective... I needed hardcore on this one. Love our fam.
How I wish there was a show on ESPN or something like it that had women like you hosting a show!! A sports show for women by women!! Love you ladies. Love the USWNT! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
the way tobin's 2-1 sweden prediction was SPOT ON
Again, best episode yet. Thank you for your candor and passion. The guest Dawn Scott, was so inspiring. I teared up a little as she described training informed by menstrual cycles. Thank you thank you for this show. Looking forward to more.
Wow, haven't seen Dawn in ages! Not since the Jill days. That was a great listen to Dawn's insider info. Educated me more with the modern football system. Also a great interview with Kosovare,Tobin!
your speech in the 17th minute is GOLD sister. Pure Gold. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Bravo for the heart and soul of your love for the team. Our hearts break right along side yours. It’s time to heal and move forward. Thank you for your honesty and devotion. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
LOL they did some word gymnastics to tear apart Vladko as a coach without mentioning his name or the word "coach" the entire time.
Thank you for ur Alyssa commentary she deserves more recognition
As a fan of the uswnt there have been some heartbreaking moments in the last couple decades but this World Cup was a different kind of hurt. Im so thankful this show is able to be a light during this time. These episodes are amazing and the guests are so so awesome. Thank you so much and I can’t wait to continue to watch.
this is simply amazing, having the chance to listen for 1 hour to Tobin and Cristen about soccer and the national team is something i didn’t know i needed but i am enjoining a lot
Tobin and Christen, you two are doing a phenomenal job with this show. Both of you have a natural talent for this. I’ve been heartbroken over the loss for the last few days, but you two really put things into perspective and give hope that things can get better with the right changes. Thank you for this!
Every female athletes need a Dawn Scott in their lives ❤ This show is absolutely gold... I cried, laughed, and learned so much... thank you for shearing this with all of us 🩷🧡
Absolutely love your show- the interview with Dawn Scott is endlessly fascinating. Keep up the great work!
Hope her & Sanchez are doing okay
as always, what an excellent show. thank you tobin, christen, and the re inc team creating this space
14:30 …….. I STARTED SNAPPING MY FINGERS!!!! YES TOBIN!!!!! EXACTLY!! thank you guys for this, you have no idea how much we enjoy hearing your guy’s opinion.. its so different/special to be able to feel like we are getting some insider information. we miss you guys on the pitch
It would be interesting to see you two watch a game and hear your collective perspectives as the game unfolds. I think it would great. Sort of like the Manning's on Monday Night Football but better.
Dawn Scott and Asllani are such gems - great interviews!!
The interview with Dawn Scott was fascinating - thank you so much for providing such terrific and detailed insight
Swedish goalkeeper was insane!
What an incredibly fascinating look into the sport science side of the team. I could watch two more hours of Dawn.
We lost the game and I was crushed and stunned and my next thought was, this week’s re-cap show is gonna be good
