The UFC continues to ignore the lighter weight classes. The promotion does stuff like this and then justifies paying flyweights less because "they're not draws"

I have to disagree I don't think that this is the mindset anymore, McGregor was a lighter fighter and he was the #1 guy for the longest time, now we have O'Malley, Merab, Yan, Vera, Nurmagomedov, Pantoja, Lima, Askarov, Benavidez,Elliot, Moreno, Figueiredo, Royval, Erceg, Volk, Topuria, Emmett, Sterling, Ortega, Holloway (just to name the top guys that definitely draw) oh and let's not forget that Demetrius Johnson is literally the Pound for Pound best fighter in the world even though sadly he's not in the UFC anymore he's still incredibly popular even with casuals.
@@brettcasale lightweight is one of the premier weight classes, I'm talking mostly about bantamweight and flyweight. the pay for those weight classes is consistently some of the lowest, and they promote anyone out of the top 5.
I'm a Mighty Mouse mega fan, and he's absolutely not known by casuals. The UFC was trying to disband the flyweight division *during his reign*

Thats BS.. the MAJORITY of people were complaining about 300 all the way up to it.. right to the night of it.. with the exception of the bmf fight. Suddenly when the event went insanely well now everyone is making out that it was planned to be massive.

Idk just from glancing at this card you could see it would be a banger, literally 0 boring fighters (well, apart from Aljo and he delievered kek), uberstacked to the point that ranked guys fought in early prelims, ofc this could've turned into a snoozlefest but how on earth do you look at UFC 300 roster and say to yourself "this is a crappy card"? Unless you are Mcnuggets fan and any card without him is boring to you I don't see any way this happening.

I love the idea of respectful fights. We don’t need ppl to talk shit every card. Takes away from the ones that are real.
People are forgetting it wasn't just 300 that got over-stacked. 299 was over-stacked too. They could have evened all PPVs out with advanced planning and kept the quality of the UFC product very high. In fact, having Hollway vs Gaethje as the 300 main event to reserve Poatan vs. Hill for 301 would have been even more legendary.

Nope. UFC needed 299 to be as stacked so they could build up 300 properly. If 299 was 301 then it would've made people lose interest given that 300 was already being touted as a weak card
I mean last time they were in Brazil the crowd was genuinely the worst I’ve seen after watching 20+ live events. People walking out during Glover vs Texeria
People always forget to mention that the final fight was at like 4AM in Rio de Janeiro (not the safest place) and the public transportation there sucks. I know doesn't sound nice but those weren't legit MMA fans (the tickets were insanely expensive) and trying to walk around in Rio at 4AM is not advisable.
Had they done the card at an earlier time, have cheaper tickets or at a city like São Paulo or Curitiba you definitely wouldn't see those atrocious fans. The fans in the last São Paulo card (Lewis vs. Almeida) were great and the atmosphere was a lot of fun.

I’m paying $25 to see it at the movies. Aldo was my favorite from his first WEC tv appearance till he retired. That’s the only reason im paying to watch. $25 is doable.

How is this a PPV card for $80 in the USA? How much does this cost for English fans in the UK? I have been a long time fan of the UFC, but I refuse to watch the fights in real time anymore, because of the $80 price, which is unacceptable.

It makes sense that when you have a milestone event like UFC 300 that the next one won't be promoted as much or won't have the build up beforehand. It's like the Holloway and Gaethje fight. Any fight after that won't be as exciting.
They should've just cut their losses and offered this card as a celebratory FREE numbered UFC event.

Hopefully, this card is one of those instances where on-paper it looks lackluster, but the fights are action-packed. It's a pay per view like this where it would be beneficial to have Fight Pass as a monthly subscription service without paying for the pay per view on top of that or better yet, they could have put a pay per view on network TV like they had done on Spike TV back in the day. I'm in Canada, and have paid for a subscription to their service, which is Sportsnet. It was $250 for a 1-year subscription, and just like Fight Pass and ESPN+, you have to pay for an individual pay per view ontop of that, which I beleive is 79.99 at this point. This is truly a way to punish the fan by the UFC by putting on a Fight Night masquerading as a pay per view.

Here in Australia, according to my sport streaming subscription, the prelims are 6am, main card is 10am. I'll only watch prelims as it's covered by my subscription. I'm somewhere between casual and hardcore fan but never buy PPVs because $80USD is around $120AUD.
Depending on when the main cards are on, I'll put on a fight companion on UA-cam and go about my day, listening to the discussion and watch intently if something happens. I do the same thing with ashes tests when they're here during summer. 🤣
Due to the amount of (dis)interest in 301, i don't expect much by way of fight companions, so I'll probably just check the UFC app every now and then after the main card starts. I hope Erceg goes great, and if it was a fight night I'd 100% be watching it live.
PPV should be for moving ranked guys thru the different divisions and see champs defend their belts

I think we honestly have UFC fatigue because of 300 being as good as it was. We almost feel like we need everyone to stand center for the last 10 seconds of every match now.
As a hardcore viewer who doesn't pay for a single card I don't hate this card, but knowing the UFC didn't even do a presser for a ppv just puts me in the mindset of this isn't great because the UFC clearly think that

I've only started watching ufc since 296 but idk maybe im a hardcore fan cause dude i watch every fight night even and every single fight is really exciting to me. I guess im one of the few people staying up for 301 lol
The way I see it, this card is the price we have to pay for 300. We can't pretend like the 300 card wasn't going to deplete the roster for a month or so. There are some great fights on this card, just not many big names. We got 300 for the price of one ppv and that was two or three ppv worth of fights. Now I have to pay for a sub par ppv. But if you average the two out, still pretty good to me.
They put together an a below average PPV card on the same night as a Canelo fight. They clearly weren't thinking this all the way thru at the start.
sleeper cards almost always deliver on finishes and great fights.
I wouldn't mind paying for the card if it was 25$ or 30$ but 80$ each card plus needing to get ESPN+ is stupid.
Basically I'm treating this one as a Fight Night. Where I'm at, these cards aren't traditional pay-per-view but are shown on a subscription sports channel that I'm already paying for in order to see football, so it's an easy deal to tape this in the middle of the night and skim through it the next day, compared to something where I know it's going to be a banger, where I'll stay up and get the buzz of it live.
I usually buy every ppv card. These last couple years there have been cards like this that I just can't do it. It's a good fight night card as a ppv

Im just confused why Alex isnt fighting. I know his toes got messed up but he went in to the Hill fight with that and won. So I dont know why he cant headline 301 against Rountree or something.

I wouldn’t quite say i’m a casual because I watch every ppv but as someone who does find appeal in the individualism of the fighters, I do enjoy watching fighters that i’m familiar with. I just don’t feel as though this warrants the price of the ppv as the card stands
It’s crazy how fans will cream their pants I’m praised the UFC every time they put on a good card and then after they gave us the best card in 30 years, they give us one that’s not that good. All we do is hate and bitch and moan but then on the same note, those same people complain that nobody knew gets a shot and it’s always the same people fighting but as soon as Dana puts on a card with some people that we haven’t heard of yet have a chance to break in the start we’re complaining again

The UFC didn’t mess up anything for once Alex got injured in the fight with Hill. In the history of mma I can’t remember when someone tried to double book fights back to back has that worked out for them myself included.

I'll only buy PPVs if a mens 155 or higher belt is on the line. I do not enjoy paying $80 to watch a 5 round decision. There are a few exceptions, but that's generally my rule of thumb, one of the classic 5 divisions has to be the main or co-main.

I feel that it was worth it to cannabalize 301 to ensure that 300 would live up to its promise. 300 was the best UFC card I've ever seen so having an underwhelmng ppv after it was always an absolute certainty. Imagine Zhang v Xiaonan ending up as the main event of 300. Absolutely NOT worth it.

I can't relate about buying ppv. I am a long time ufc fan and never paid a ufc ppv. In our country we have cable providers where we subscribed and paying for it monthly as a whole package and there's a channel where they just air ufc shows every single. time.

The biggest name values on this card are
1. A returning but probably retired Aldo.
2. Smith with a 1-4 in his last 5
3. Craig who is let’s just say it, a gate keeper
The fact that this is a ppv and these are the biggest names tells you everything
I would consider myself a hardcore fan but giving $80+ with tax for this card is just financially irresponsible
