Love your pigeon video. We caught some street pigeons when I was a kid and homed them. We lived in San Deigo Ca and my grandma lived in Anaheim, well over 100 miles. We would take our two pigeons to her house and let them go. We would spend the night up there and when we got home the next day the pigeons would be home. Such great pets and so fun to fly them.
I flew my racing homing pigeons 500 miles and they come home on the day unless there is bad weather with birds over a year old. 300 miles as a young bird under 6 moths old, come home same day or next morning facing a headwind or storm. They do have 1,000 mile pigeons as well. I had a few but never flew them that far. Pigeons are fun.
Put poultry grit in your nesting boxs with with saw dust on top, alot easier to clean
Thanks for the tip!
Or what about newspaper or something similar
Very good! Thanks.
Dope vid!
I was on a roof today doing some a/c work. The neighbor just released them prior to me getting on roof. It took me back when i was a kid and friends all had them in neighborhood. I loved seeing them fly together as one! Pretty cool shit! Took my mind off fishing for a bit!😂👍💯👊
Very nice sir Your birds seem very happy
May God Bless U
Very nice setup
I found that raccoons can put there hands threw the chicken wire and grab a bird we found a couple birds with there heads bitten off and that they went right threw the chicken wire so now we build them with 1/2 inch mesh
Geesh! Good to know!
Do you have any problems with splayed legs using the buckets instead of nests?
A racing bird that has been homed will always leave another loft for home. I may take 6 months or a year or 2 but one day you will open the door and it will be out over your head . Once I looked at a prisoner bird on a nice spring morning and knew he was not coming back when I opened that trap to exercise them and he did not. A 10 yr. old racer blue bar is the one that flew right over my head. I was told he was from the Bronxs and I 200 miles away.I had nkow attentions of giving him freedom.
It's incredible what these birds can do
Good afternoon, greeting friend Beautiful pigeons, beautiful animals. , Purebred. 👍🕊🤝
Do you feed and water the pigeons daily or will they self restrict the volume of food they eat so u can feed 2-3 tines per week? Thanks
how often do you clean the loft? Is food put in dishes? is it possible to begin with just two birds? last thing: it's really okay to leave the door open and let them go in and out? Seems like lots of other birds would fly in.
Do you have to do any protection for them in the winter?
Sharon Braker we can leave it open all year long because we have such mild winters. We do typically add more hay for nesting in the colder months.
Nice video
Nice pigeon House
Nice Video
How close would be to close to have your coop to your dog kennels?
Sir if possible please give the idea of construction of loft in cheap method for homer Pigeons
Prasadbn Pachi how many pigeons are you hoping to hold?
Nice
How often do you let your dogs near the coop? I don’t want to ruin my dog by letting him near the coop too often. Can I keep my pigeons in my yard?
How many would you have in this size enclosure? I’m getting older birds from someone (homes to their location but it’s 300 odd miles from me) how long would you reccomend keeping them in to start with?
I wouldn't release just breed from them or at least wait until they are feeding young before releasing them
Do you need three closed in walls for your loft? Can they all be opened? will that be OK?
Africans have to worry about the honey burger too. That thing is stubborn. as a pegion owner growing up this takes me back to childhood. If there is one thing that i regret in life is not giving them a proper house. I really like this house..i would build this house for them and bring them back. Love for pegions is deeply rooted in my heart. I don't know the difference btw pegions and doves.. but mine were mostly white with pink peak and pinkish eyes, or mixed colours, if you need to train pegion for racing choose a black male, or a brown pegion. They can come back from 100s of miles farewell
Do you need to weather proof the front and put up heat lamps during colder weather? Just had around 70 birds given to us.
Not where we are! Where are you located?
I'm 69 and I remember pigeon coops when I was a kid. I searched to see if anybody still kept pigeons.
Thanks for checking us out
Questions:
1. How much is a pair of messenger pigeon?
2. All pigeons can travel back to their destination?
3. Is it better to get a couple of pigeons when they are younger in order to train them?
Homing pigeons are usually anywhere from $10 to $50 depending on the seller. And yes most pigeons with good pedigree and the right training can come back from up to several thousand miles away. It is best to start with pigeons about 8 weeks old. Older pigeons can also be retrained to a new home but pigeons of any age should be kept in the loft at LEAST 1 month before you begin training. There are plenty of sites that have good training info. If you do get pigeons I have some good training methods I can share :).

Thanks
@@franciscourena5636 No problem :)
Did you say the right hand side birds were for shooting.
Where did you buy your crates? the yellow ones with the red doors?
Farm tek! Thanks for watching!
How this pigeon loft works during raining season, did the raining water get inside the loft? can we store food and water for two days with out our presence (Some time suddenly we have to go some other place so Is it possible to get food and water for 2 days)
nice video brother
Great video! I bout some young homers about 3 weeks ago and haven’t let them out of the coup yet. Do you think they would be “homed” yet to let them fly or should I keep them in the coupe a while longer before flying them?
Eastin Dockers thanks for watching! Have they started nesting yet?
Pinkgun yet again from Australia 🇦🇺 🤠
Heck yeah!!!
You go girl 👧
what is the smallest homing pigeon loft one could start if a beginner starting small?
Gundog supply has a loft design that is only 4x4 .can be built in a day and hold a dozen birds
We have a small green bin on our farm that has pigeons in it. We’re thinking of using it but we don’t want to just kick the pigeons out. So we’re thinking of making them a coop. But there’s always babies and eggs Any suggestion on what we can do.
How far are you wanting to fly them?
where is the best place to get a loft from for the pigeons im getting some in 2 month so please reply
How did you make those nesting boxes
Can you have only 3 or 4 birds of you only want a small coop?
Depends what your goals are. 6 Pigeons would be usually enough to do intros to train the average dog.
How do you discourage ground nesting? I have lost a couple nests now because of pecking when they are hatched and so on
We just pull ground nests when the happen.
2:25 since they have a hole to exit and enter how can you dress them to come and leave or how do they come back after they leave
Normally that door would have one-way swinging bars on them and the pigeons are trained how to walk through those. He probably has it open because it's flying time so they can exit and fly around in the sky to exercise.
Hi,a friend of mine has asked me to build a pigeon coop he has about90 birds
Can you tellmewhatsizeto build it,and some ideas on how to build it thanks
James hurd
Please reach out! I would love to help!
Planning on doing this once I retire
When do they do they pair and lay the second generation ? Do they lay eggs year around or seasonally?
Kenny Brandow laying depends on several things. Stress, nutrition, and weather. Most of our birds are laying for a little more than 9 months of the year, but do most of the laying in the spring/summer! Thanks for the questions!
@@StandingStoneKennels how many Homers would you recommend to train 2 pups
Kenny Brandow 12-15 could get you by just fine.
@@StandingStoneKennels I appreciate your response and wisdom
I saw in another video you had some chukars. How easy or difficult are they to keep vs pigeons? I have a few feral pigeons that I will card to reuse or will kill them. I was thinking if I'm killing birds anyway, I could have homers to reuse and chukars to kill and then I could eat the chukars...eating a pigeon weirds me out a bit...
Pretty easy but they really need more fly space!
@@StandingStoneKennels more space than a regular sized garden shed I assume?
What breed of pigeons do you have
Albert Mendoza we have a mixture of feral pigeons, and homing pigeons from a local guy who races. I don’t know anything else about them.
What is smallest amount of birds to start with?
Depends what your goals are. 6 Pigeons would be usually enough to do intros to train the average dog.
Ummmm can you have a loft on a 8 of a 15 storey building?
If someone knows pls help
I live in a 15 storey building
And I'm on a 8th floor
but are they a good investment? the chickens provide eggs even qualis provide tiny eggs, but what do homing pigeon give you in return?
I think this is a hobby for most people. They find the birds fascinating. So the "payoff" is the entertainment value. I suppose you could learn to breed them and sell them, teach a class or write a book, and maybe make some money, but, again, I going to assume that these are people who love these birds.
Baldoxxx4000 they keep them for training bird dogs. It is hard to have a bird dog without having birds.
How ya keep it dry from rain ??
Little thing i want to tell people if you leave a light on in there snakes wont bother you
If you catch some local birds and raise them in your coop will future generations become good homers if the train them to fly home. If so, how many generations would it take to get birds that will fly home from hundreds of miles away .
You need quality bred birds for hundreds of miles.
Naice video where can I find thim or parches I am in Michigan
Hardware store!
Where did you get your wild pigeons
We have some people local that raise them!
Hi I had homing pigeons when I was younger now I am getting ready to retire where would I be able to purchase a few pair. This is just for my enjoyment. Thank you. I live in Alabama
We may be able to get you a pair! What are you wanting?!?
I will be looking for a pair just to enjoy and share with my grand kids. What will a pair or two cost. I had birds back in the 70's. Thank you for your help.
Check out the website pigeons.biz they have a forum that I bet you can find a pair local to you!
If you buy adult birds they say don't let them out until they've raised at least 3 clutches in the new loft. Otherwise you won't see them again!
StuckinTheCity I would assume it depends on the quality of the birds. I have had really good luck with as soon as they start laying.. letting then fly!
not very good homing birds then lol.
StuckinTheCity you are probably right 😂 we only fly them a few miles though...

I let my young birds out after couple months and I usually get 75 percent of them back. I have around 400 birds lol
How much did you spend to build this coop?
Hi
How you keep them during winter?
Just like you see here! We have mild winters!
I have pigeon first year I live in Montreal Canada I don’t know how should I keep them
good video
Hi 👋🏼 I have a question. How do I stop my birds 🐦 from having too many babies?
I am really not a pigeon expert, but on a quality diet and in the warm months.. pigeons are really good producers!
If ya just throw away th eggs they will lay again to soon so after a few days after laying second egg pick up egs an shake the shit out of them. Replace back in nest. Do that a few times. That will stop the embryo forming but they will keep sitting untill they give up waiting for thdm to hatch. Last longer then just throwing eggs away.
Add fake eggs to the nest

Nice clip
I have 10 birds now
How do you clean that coop ?
Its a dirt floor so they almost certainly don't clean it, pigeon poop doesn't smell at all tho, if you plan on building one you could easily just pour some cheap concrete then put on the cheapest tile you can find, then you can just hose it down
Just wondering, from where do I get my homing stock?
Start off with some frars or go to Craig’s list and search pigeons find some keep them 4 months of young then keep em hungry get a trap door and let them out after you train them
Find yourself a friendly Hmong they got pigeons coming out their ears
Are they on dirt or sand?
Sand here’s not my current recommendation.
My pigeons don't sleep in their loft I don't know what to do?
Are you on dirt or deep litter?
Sand… kind of deep liter ish… raked and freshened weekly.
Why are you shooting the other pigeons?
🕊🕊🕊🕊
nice loft,i wanth pegion.
What about a loft for only 1 pigeon
Do you sale pigeons. And if so do you ship

Does keeping birds annoy your neighbours?
K Smith not ours but this would vary based on the people for sure...
K Smith if they are good pigeons they are fun to watch fly and won’t be on your house :)

What do you mean you shoot pigeons and train your dogs with them?
We train bird dogs and shoot feral pigeons in training.0
I can't see killing them for the fun of it..!!!...
You raise pigeons to shoot? That doesn't seem very sporting... are you eating them?
Angie we raise pigeons to train dogs with, but we don’t shoot these birds! We just allow them to fly back to the coop!

Why you kill pigeon's and shoot pigeon's ?
These are our homing pigeons!
Treating pigeons well on the left...and pigeons you shoot for fun on the right...You are going to hell if you don't eat every bird you kill....Good Luck with that bud!....lol
Kitkat you are so right!...i think this guy is a A-hole!!
Agreed.... but disagree on eating them. To put the pigeons used as sport to be shot is horrible. Like they are meaningless. Disgusting. What a spirt shooting a little pigeon.

Wow this have no clue about homing pigeons
This is just superb, I've been looking for "pigeon racing england" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Hansaac Riyliver Scheme - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cousin got cool success with it.

Is that 💩
YOUR LOFT NEEDS CLEANING BADLY, PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH
Shameful that you're using pigeons to train your dogs. You should have perches for your feral pigeons as pigeons like to perch and not being on the ground all the time. But, you plan to kill them anyway so what the hell regarding their comfort. :(
Birds that you're shooting on one side... disturbing... you shouldn't have pigeons. They are incredibly smart and don't deserve to be used as sport.
Please don't shoot them you will get bad karma. Please release them or sell them
the place is dirty man
... WHY ARE YOU "KILLING" PIGEONS...?? ...
killing pigeons? like dove hunting
I have pigeons but in these conditions this dirty and that is a cage for chickens 🤮😡
☹️ no shooting. There must be a better hobby than that. Poor little poofs.
