The musicians in the band I just jammed with seem to love this relaxed style of playing. Thank you so much for sharing these musical treasures.

Hi Rick, thank you for the lesson. You mentioned that a few of these rhythms, particularly the Songo variations are in your book. Can you please provide a link to your book or share the name so that I can search for it? Thank you. Stay well.

You can order the book by contacting me at rickdior@gmail.com

Hi Rick, great videos and explanation. do the authors of the book provide the notation of actual grooves to play with the chart or just chart reading and left up to you know ?

      Hi Ron
Some grooves are roughly notated but it's mostly style suggestions

Hey rick. Yeah my main problem is not knowing what grooves to play with chart reading. Do you suggest just constant listening until you can identify the transitions and what to play?

      Hi Ron
Usually modern drum charts will have the groove style notated as to explain what type of Latin rhythm the composer/arranger wants. For example Samba, Mambo, Cha Cha, Songo, etc.
Older charts are more generic and might just say "Latin". In that case I look at the Bass and Piano parts and see what type of rhythm they have. With enough listening you will eventually be able to identify a certain type of groove immediately based on what the other members of the rhythm section are playing.

rickdior Hi Rick, may I know what type of pieces/playlist will you recommend us for "enough hearing" till we are able to identify groove immediately?

Hey Rick - what can I say, but just knocked out with your fantastic touch, feel and sound. Decided to do a version of this tune during lockdown here in Scotland. I came across your tutorial, and pinched a few of you suggestions for my own version - thanks :-). Did a version this morning, and here's the link if you're interested. Stay safe!
