The new one is too bulky for my small "coffee designated" space in my kitchen. And I never use the frother anyway, so I would get no use out of the cool power one. As long as it makes hot coffee and cold brew, I'm happy. :) Good review.
Thanks Nola. I am glad you picked the one that works best for you. That is what matters most. I am glad my video helped you decide which one to get. Thanks for watching. Take care.
Just bought one and I must say when you use the specialty brew setting it makes some of the best darn coffee I have ever had!!! Well worth the money considering Im not buying coffee by the cup anymore.
I have a better homes and gardens coffee maker that will grind and brew automatically. Not sure if they make it anymore? Was the best coffee maker i ever had

I don’t think ninja would be well made if you look at the ninja blender it’s cheaply made I rather get a grinder separate because your not stuck with there grinder you can get anyone you want I just bought a expensive espresso maker with a 1000 dollar espresso grinder I know I’m a coffee freak I really like this ninja I would like to make

Thanks for the $20 off purchase. I just ordered the new model of the sharkninja site. One benefit buying it from them directly versus any other store is you can purchase the lifetime warranty.
Loved you video review,it was very helpful. I bought the newer model on Facebook marketplace and it didn’t come with a manual. It was my first ninja coffee maker so I was going blind into it. And I was already looking to buy a frothier on Amazon. But after seeing your video that showed that the newer model comes with one I was like AWESOME!! Thank you for all the info.GREAT REVIEW!
Very helpful video. Bought the old one and before opening the box saw your video. We sent it back and bought the new one. Ours came with the stainless steel insulated carafe. The warmer light does not go on with the insulated carafe. Is that because the cover plate on the warmer disengages the smart warmer plate?
Just bought the older one. It was priced down to $150 CDN from $300.. which was an amazing deal. I'm glad I bought the older one though. I can't believe I spent this much on a coffee maker. thanks for this video.
Great Video Mitch!! Thank you for showing all the differences of the old and new. I got the old one and Man I would love that new model!!! But of course "the wife" says "ours works just fine, we don't need the new one!!!" LOL! Take care Mitch
Darn I wish I watched this about a hour ago lol the older one cost more at the store so we thought that was the newer one . Guess we can take back for he new one
The old one should cost less, so you may have seen the new version in the single serve version and that would be why it was cheaper. Just be sure you check and look to see what all the model you are buying comes with. Thanks.
Great comparison. I got last years model a couple weeks ago but returned it for the newer model when I realized it fixed two of the major issues I had with last years. Namely the vastly improved frother which lets me froth as much milk as I'd like instead of being limited to 5oz with the manual frother and the big one is the pre-heat mode that is afforded by the power button as I found last years model brewed a colder first cup as the machine had no option to warm up. Now that is no longer an issue. I also found the new model is less prone to leaking when opening and closing the coffee holder which I found to be an issue on last years even with drip stop turned on.
Yes, both of those things are resolved with the new model. Although I have not really found the coffee temperature to be a problem with the old model but that is personal preference. Some people like really hot coffee, I prefer it to not burn my taste buds off so I find it brews plenty hot for me. I did test the temp on the new model and when done it is in the 175 degree range. Please subscribe I have more ninja videos coming soon. Thanks!
I just purchased the new style and I like it but... the metal filter will push too much coffee through and can give you a slight bitter coffee taste. If you use a high quality 4" paper cone filter you will find that you get a much better tasting coffee. I have try both ways back and forth to test, I will stay with the paper filter.
I agree. I also use a paper filter. Non bleached brown #4 filter. I have tried the washable one but agree with you. The coffee comes out better with the paper filter.
any info on the complaint about the cleaning alert that comes and, and then the coffee maker doesn't work after that? I'm wanting to buy the new one, but that was a complaint made by several in reviews. thank you!
Hello Mitch, have you tried filling the old tank and filling the new one to see if the amount is the same? If you haven't I would try it. Let me know how that comes out.
I'v had mine since Christmas, and I have to start by saying, I didn't think I was going to like it. I was right, I don't like it, I LOVE IT! Even though it's not a "real" late, I defy anyone to tell the difference. The frothed milk is probably better than steamed milk in all but the most expensive home espresso makers. The grounds don't stick to the scoop, and the measures are molded in, no looking them up, or losing them. One little niggle, it does drip a bit, even after the beep, but that's what the drip stop is for. It's just a well thought out design, so don't hesitate to get one.
I have the "old" version and mine has a cord holder thing in the back as the "new" one has, and my "old" version also DOES have an off switch. Wonder why ours is different than your older model. Interesting.
I just bought one yesterday, and sadly it didn't come with a permanent washable filter and It seems to have a problem with making a full pot of coffee. I had to restart it to get a full pot of coffee. Is this normal or should I take it back to the store? So far for the money that I spent, I'm not impressed.
myazstar I rarely if ever use the reusable filter. I recommend using the paper filter. They are cheap and Easier to clean. Just pull out and toss in the trash. A full pot doesn’t fill it all the way up. This is normal. The newer machine fills it a little bit further up than the older one. But neither fill it all the way up to the top.
Can anyone figure out the difference between the CM401 and the CM401A? They look identical and use the same manual but the CM 401A is quite a bit cheaper. I googled and cannot find anything about that.
Did Ninja fix the problem with the "clean" light coming on all the time? I have the old model but if they solved that problem with the new one I would definitely buy the new one.
I have had mine for a while now and my cleaning light has only come on 2 times. I think it also has a lot to do with the water source. So if your area has hard water or has other water issues t may come on more often. I just use our tap water but our water around here is pretty good. Hope this helps.
@@mitchcox Thank you Mitch for the quick response. I use city water which I filter in a Brita before using in my Ninja and I use the descaling liquid that is recommended by Ninja. The clean light always comes back on after making 3 or 4 cups of coffee. I have read that this has been a problem with the old machine and in fact, Ninja has stopped replacing units because of this problem. I think I will take my chances and pick up the new model today and hopefully they have resolved the "clean" light issue. Thank you again Mitch.
Janice Mitchell well. Hopefully if you buy it locally you will be able to test it out thoroughly within the 30 return window. Especially since your original was going off after only a few cups of coffee. I didn’t have that issue with my original Ninja but I read a lot of people did have that issue. Good luck.
I just got the old version because of the Auto iq I thought that was an important feature. I’m finding out it isn’t as much as I thought. Also the other issue I have is mine doesn’t have a warming plate to keep my full pot warm which is a deal breaker for me I hate to send it back just because of this. Do you know which one offers. the warming plate??
Kimberly Parris I prefer the glass carafe because of the warming plate and also the fact that I can see how much coffee is left in the pot. I do hope you find one that you like. I would definitely take it back or send it back if you are not happy with it. Take care and good luck.
mitch cox Thanks for your reply. I do have the stainless steel carafe my concern was keeping a full pot of coffee warm enough to enjoy. I left water in it for almost three hours and the water temp was right at 160* I don’t think I could ask for anything more. If it had a warmer plate I wonder if it would even be at that temp after three hours. I’m going to keep it for a few days and see how I feel about in a weeks time. Thank you.
Austin Brown I think it really depends on where you buy it. Different retailers sell different packages. One store may sell one that comes with a big tumbler, another may not have the tumbler but has a bigger recipe book, while another may have the reusable filter. The main unit is the same, just what comes in the box differs depending on where you buy it. Hope this helps. Hope you like the new unit! Take care.
Another difference is that the carafe in the newer model IS bigger. If you compare your manuals on how many oz each carafe gets in a whole pot, the newer model is bigger. Making the water reservoir bigger as well.
Leslie Lewis I had a Kuerig vue commercial brewer before I bought the older model Nutri Ninja Coffee Bar. The Kuerig is a heap of shit in comparison. The Kuerig was difficult to clean the mineral scaling out of and clogged up constantly. It had a function that allowed you to select the size (in ounces) of the cup you wanted to brew that never worked correctly. I only had it for a year and couldn't even give the piece of junk away. I love my Nutri Ninja , best pot I ever had. I even like it better than my Bunn.
Anybody who wants to choose their own coffee. Also someone who want to save money on coffee. Also, someone who wants to be able to make a whole pot when family or friends are over.
In my opinion, coffee made in a Ninja is much better and richer than that from a Keurig, and I have both. The Keurig is only used for convenience purposes or when we need a quick cup on the go.
I have the old one & I like it, it fits just right on my counter top, whereas I have tall cabinets. I don't think the new one will fit under my cabinets & I have very limited counter space, so the older one being smaller than the new one, is perfect for my limited counter space. So I wasn't too happy to see they change it. I don't know what I'm going to do when this one stops working & they don't have the older model anymore.
You did not mention that a paper filter can be used. I have an older model and just slip in a paper cone filter and easily just remove the holder, tap on edge of trash and it all falls in. No mess. Holder easily slides back in place. I never use the frother but if it was as easy as you describe I might. How about cleaning it in place by using a glass of warm water and running it under the water? Just let it air dry.
I got the older one when it first came out... I will just keep it because you learn bigger isn't necessary better. 😅 Bet the original has better parts.
Does one of them make better tasting coffee? I have the older version and love it, but all this coffee talk is forcing me to make myself a cup right now!
Yes! The newer version makes a better cup, hot and cold. The old one would over extract the coffee and make it bitter as the new model does not. With the old model I switched from medium to light coffee and with the new model, I'm back to medium. Invest in the new model.
I've had the new model for about 9 mos and don't like it, but paid too much for it so gotta keep it. The water tank leaks water all up under the maker. I have tried everything I've read to fix it and it doesn't work. Everyday I check and wipe. Waiting for it to crater to go back to the Bunn!
Yes. You can set it to brew at a certain time! Set it up the night before and tell it what time you want it to start brewing. It will start and brew to your settings.
They have several different models, they have one new model that is only for single serve and brews into your cup of your choice. They also make one that does a full pot of coffee like the one featured in my video. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Sorry, some places sell it with the tumbler some places sell it without, some places sell it with a Ice pitcher too. I saw that model at my local Sams club.
DEATH BEEP QUICK FIX Lots of folks complaining about their machines cutting off after the five second "death beep." If you have tried cleaning everything and that doesn't fix the issue..... take a pair of needle nose pliers remove the 3/16 inch plastic flapper in the bottom of the refillable water bucket reservoir that is supposed to let air bubbles out of the 2nd fixed water tank in the bottom of the machine. This plastic flap dries out from excessive exposure to heat and then hardens and is not flexible enough to let air bubbles out of the bottom fixed tank water reservoir fast enough......when water stops flowing into the heating element the thermostat shuts the electric current off to the heating element to prevent burning up the heating element and thus you will hear that annoying "DEATH BEEP" and the coffee will stop brewing prematurely. If this is the problem causing the issue you will confirm it by noticing a backup up of air bubbles in the pocket underneath the 3/16 rubber flap restricting the water flow into the lower fixed reservoir. That plastic flap is totally unnecessary...... and the machine works fine without it. Ninja employees will never tell you this.....figured it out myself. 10 second fix and you will be brewing again.
For thous of you who dont no how to turn off the older ninja model the button u turn to choose your cup size is also the power button tune it all the way to the left
Please be warned that these machines suffer a high percentage of quality defects. In particular leaking, malfunctioning cleaning issues, and intermittent operation which usually appear between a couple weeks to a few months after initial operation. If you research the web and the company's Facebook page you will see many dissatisfied customers. Their dissatisfaction is more with the company's response to these issues than the issues themselves. Even though these are manufacturer defects (many times right out of the box) they will require you to pay for the shipment of replacement parts. They will respond to your online comments feigning concern and ask for you to call them directly or to communicate off-line. That is when they tell you that you should have read their warranty which says you will need to pay additional money to have them fix the machine you just bought. These are expensive machines and for the company to require you to pay for parts when the unit fails within days/weeks of purchasing it is disgraceful. I was even told that if the replacement part was defective I would have to pay for another replacement too. Crazy! If you choose to take the risk please buy from a reputable retailer who will back up the quality of your purchase because Ninja will not. Fortunately that is what I did and the replacement machine I got failed too. Otherwise, be prepared by reading the warranty.
I read somewhere that production was moved overseas in 2017. Which are all the new ones. Individuals who have had theirs prior to 2017 have given amazing reviews and are still using on a daily basis. I think it was the negative reviews that had me holding off and just using my Keurig with the reusable kcup. Then I saw one on Facebook marketplace for $15. I asked why so cheap as individuals were still selling used ones for over $80 and she responded it was priced low because it was from 2016. I grabbed that puppy up. It’s been a workhorse for us. At times it’s making coffee/ice cold coffee three or four times a day with zero issues. 😊
new one is too big. only benefit is the serving sizes, and the entire basket is removable on the old one which makes for easy cleanup. Not a fan of the new version.
Dude my ninja I bought in 2015 coffee tastes terrible. I’ve cleaned it a bunch of times and it’s still awful. It’s about to hit the trash and buying a $20 coffee pot unless you know some voodoo to make it better! Thank you!
I know this comment is a year old...Have you tried to use citric acid to clean? I read some of the older models need a little more “umpf” than just the vinegar/water mix to clean. One lady swears by citric acid (she purchased it off amazon-food grade citric acid) and does 4 tablespoons to water (the second line). I scored a 2016 model second hand and decided to do the traditional water/vinegar clean but also did the citric acid solution as well. I couldn’t tell you if it changed the dynamics of taste since didn’t use it until I did a clean on it being second hand. But... I did notice the flow was a little quicker.

Sorry. Mine does not. I am hearing that they made different versions of the older model. Some earlier ones did not have a cord storage spot and the later models did. I just checked mine again and it does not have a spot to store the cord.
Yes. They did make several models that looked very similar. Both with the first coffee bar and the second one. Some with knobs. Some with buttons. Some with power buttons some without power buttons. It is strange but they all worked pretty much the same.
Older model was better. New one keeps stopping the brew for unknown reasons. Even stops clean cycle after a few seconds. Trying blowing through tube and reseting fan after taking off base cover. Hasn't fixed it. Old one did NOT have this issue. Plus old one was a tad bit more compact. Wish I still kept old one around. New one's design seems to have taken a step backward!
The new one is designed to brew a little and stop. Brew some more and stop. This allows the coffee to soak in the coffee before more water pushes it through. It helps make enhance the flavor of the coffee. You can hear the drip stop automatically engage and disengage to keep the water in the basket. You are correct, The old one did not do this. This is new technology and a feature of the new machine.
@@mitchcox right, but it is stopping after a few seconds with the five beeps of death or whatever and not starting again. Not even clean cycle will run after I try the fix shown in another video where you take off bottom plate and blow water out of tube. Old design didn't have this issue.
Colin DeVries ha ha. No. That doesn’t sound normal. I would definitely contact Ninja support. I hear they have fantastic support and will take care of you. Or take it back to the store if not too late. Good luck. I hope they send you a new machine. Because if you get one that works, I am sure you will love it.
Colin DeVries Models manufacturered 2017 until present have issues. Production was moved overseas from an article I read. If you can score a 2016 or older model those are workhorses. They were still being made here in the US.
It's amazing how people get so anal over coffee and waste so much money for something that's not needed the newer generations have no clue and are very lazy.

+Deena Gusnowski Yes! You are correct. The new one makes 43 oz. full carafe, while the old one makes a 38 oz. full carafe.
So who chooses this over a kuerig
Chris Hoesing don’t forget that the Kuerig creates a lot of waste as well
Maria A you have expensive taste LOL!!!
They make so many different models now. Hopefully you can find one that works well for you. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care.
The old one does turn off the button you use to choose the cup size is also the power button
thank you for the comparison review, very detailed
You did not mention that a paper filter can be used. I have an older model and just slip in a paper cone filter and easily just remove the holder, tap on edge of trash and it all falls in. No mess. Holder easily slides back in place. I never use the frother but if it was as easy as you describe I might. How about cleaning it in place by using a glass of warm water and running it under the water? Just let it air dry.
Which one makes the best iced coffee
What are the model numbers of these machines?
I have the New Model and I love, love, loveee it😍😍😍
Awesome! glad to hear it. I love our new one too! Thanks for watching!
Do you have the model# for the old and for the new?
I got the older one when it first came out... I will just keep it because you learn bigger isn't necessary better. 😅 Bet the original has better parts.
Awesome review! Getting the new Ninja, thank you! :)
+Linda thanks for watching and commenting!
:)
Invest in the new model.
oh no.i just got the old version i sure hope the coffee isn't bitter otherwise its going back,i hope its hot cup of coffee too.
Does ninja coffee bar comes in brown tone
I've had the new model for about 9 mos and don't like it, but paid too much for it so gotta keep it. The water tank leaks water all up under the maker. I have tried everything I've read to fix it and it doesn't work. Everyday I check and wipe. Waiting for it to crater to go back to the Bunn!
Is this programmable
Yes. You can set it to brew at a certain time! Set it up the night before and tell it what time you want it to start brewing. It will start and brew to your settings.
would anyone happen to have the model numbers of the old and new, as I'm looking at them now?
i have the old one i thinkwe got a bad one from the batch water leaked thtu the clock hour boutton and the very first brew option oboutton works tho
Does it come with a coffee pot the new one?
They have several different models, they have one new model that is only for single serve and brews into your cup of your choice. They also make one that does a full pot of coffee like the one featured in my video. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
+mitch cox which one did you end up getting?
I'm sure a lot of people are wondering why the sizes are weird (9.5 and 11.5 oz). This is to give you room for milk and/or ice. :)
I luv the older one ... and for the money you save on the older one ... it is basically the same product and features ...
I got the new model with the carafe, but I didn't get a tumbler with mine 🙁
Sorry, some places sell it with the tumbler some places sell it without, some places sell it with a Ice pitcher too. I saw that model at my local Sams club.
mitch cox No worries. I did realize afterwards that the book that came with mine had more recipes than yours. So I guess it just depends!
Can you rewarm your coffee later? I would love that feature
Yes, it's called a microwave oven.
Just bought the old style on clearance from Best Buy for $79.99. Can't pass up that price
I LOVE the new model with the built in frother. I've used it almost everyday since my son gave it to me for Christmas...
Good review, thanks for the information.
Thanks for the awesome review!
DEATH BEEP QUICK FIX
Lots of folks complaining about their machines cutting off after the five second "death beep."
If you have tried cleaning everything and that doesn't fix the issue..... take a pair of needle nose pliers remove the 3/16 inch plastic flapper in the bottom of the refillable water bucket reservoir that is supposed to let air bubbles out of the 2nd fixed water tank in the bottom of the machine.
Greg Stickelmaier thanks. I saw the complaints and now I might just buy me coffee
I love my ninja I have had it for 2 Years and I have no complaints
I absolutely love my Ninja!
Your video is very helpful ... Thank you!
The new coffee bar cost $260.00 (original price), but it only cost $150.00 for Black Friday sales. 🤣
EZ Tay now is about 24 dollars
Ninja products should make one for teas also.
The old one has the cord storage
new one is too big. only benefit is the serving sizes, and the entire basket is removable on the old one which makes for easy cleanup.
Wow they already came out with a new one geez I just the other one lol 😂 oh well I’m loving mine
I have been wanting the new version of this but they only Carry single serve ones at Walmart.

Thank you!
Morning save honey !!!
Cannot believe that you never identified the model numbers!
It's been stepped up
this video helped alot thanks.
Mine is leaking from under the bottom of the machine
So not a proper frother then it does not even heat the milk lol
Actually... The old one does have a place to put your power cord. Just take another look
Sorry. Mine does not. I am hearing that they made different versions of the older model. Some earlier ones did not have a cord storage spot and the later models did. I just checked mine again and it does not have a spot to store the cord.
@@mitchcox Huh... That is strange
Yes. They did make several models that looked very similar. Both with the first coffee bar and the second one. Some with knobs. Some with buttons. Some with power buttons some without power buttons. It is strange but they all worked pretty much the same.
Great review
Thank you for the nice comment. I am glad you enjoyed it. Take care.
i want one!
+butterflysugarbby If you love coffee, I highly recommend it.
I got the stainless steel model which comes with more stuff
@@valerieee3p update: I took mitch's advice and called ninja. They use a replacement for $21 shipping. So far so good!
I've got both models
Something about the way you move the camera up, down, and around made me dizzy - stopped at :54
Thanks!!
No preocuparse. X el agua ni celentarlo
Boneta best coffee maker
Barbara Miller Boneta is a Mexican singer, not sure if he makes coffee.
wow
Not a whole lot of difference I'll just keep my old one .
Well, now they have the hot and cold system, which highly recommend. Have you seen or tried it?
@@mitchcox no haven't seen or heard of it .Not knocking it my old one is still perfectly good. Can't justify 160 or whatever on a new one.
The new one is garbage had mine for less than 6 months and all it does it beep at me
euuugh tumbler
It's amazing how people get so anal over coffee and waste so much money for something that's not needed the newer generations have no clue and are very lazy.
