What choked me up was that this is the first time Hakurou has shown Gobta sympathy.
With his hand on his back like a caring master.
It's always interesting is whenever gobta's not around, Hakurou's always impressed with him.
Heck, look at his fight with Gabiru.
It's WHY he's strict with him.
Hakuro is always sympathetic towards his students, it's shown he cares about them which is why he's so strict with them.
It's actually my favorite part of the scene. Shows he cares deeply for his students.
It's not sympathy. It's empathy. He's feeling the same thing Gobta is feeling, but he's internalizing it for Gobta's sake so he can be a support.

The ligh novel scene after he sends the others away is a tiny bit different. After the battle with Hinata Rimuru makes a copy of Shizu's mask to hide his presence and he never took it off until I think after the war with Farmus. The scene goes like this:
"Looking back, this was the first time I was there to see someone close to me die. I had never gone through a loss like that, and now I understood the sadness involved. I felt it vividly, with a pain more intense than being slashed ear to ear. Cancel Pain wasnβt cutting it for this one-not against the all-too-strong currents of magic and emotion within me.
It was maybe too much for my new mask. A crack appeared on it, almost looking like a tear of sadness. I couldnβt cry, so it seemed like the mask was weeping for me."

Yo but seriously, Rimuru actually nearly lost it. His whole aura shot out scaring everyone. And in the next scene it shows him putting that suppression mask on so no one could tell that he was basically going crazy inside. This whole episode was sad. And what's even sadder is that he was so out of control the mask started cracking. Shion is really my favorite character and this made me cry...
And remember, he's under two barriers. His magical power is severely lowered, and through sheer pain and rage he almost crippled a town with his aura alone. A town inhabited by evolved monsters no less. There is a reason he's considered at this point to be a demon lord seed.

I think you forgot but Rimuru put a Multilayer Barrier around him which can neglect the Effect of the Prison Field Barrier the Church created. His Magicules arent weakend One Bit.
He is considered a Disaster-class, but there are still Monster in this World who outclass him. Especially some of the Demon Lords who are already True Demon Lords ( it wasnt Mentioned in the Anime so far, but they know that there are 10 Demon Lords and only half of them are considered True Demon Lords, while the others are only Demon Lords)

no, this was a shock due to there being double barriers, one that blocked transportations etc. and one that thinned out molecules of "energy" which the monsters use to survive.
concidering to the degree it weakened Shion (one of the top dogs in the nation) to the point where humans with swords took her out..
it's fair to say majority of the monsters there were struggling with how much energy they spent just to survive inside there.

Gobta's voice actor did an outstanding job in my opinion. Those screams of grief sounded absolutely real, genuinely devastated. The choice to make them the soundtrack for the unveiling of Shion was a perfect choice, too.
Been over a year and my opinion has not changed. Some of the finest Voice Acting right there.

It's great how sharp of a turn this season took compared to the 1st season. The amount of violence in season 1 and the OVAs was pretty much minimal. Season two pretty much opened up every door and window and let violence just rush in without a care in the world. Such a good season so far!
In the end, everyone got resurrected. That killed all the weight of their deaths. That's the thing I don't like in slime, everything is too shiny and good. When bad things happens, they just find a way to fix it. No important deaths occurs.

Just want to say. The voice actor for gobta did such an impeccable job. Like rimuru showed us he was upset with the whole aura thing, but hearing gobta scream in emotional pain like that did a far better job of showing us how he felt. Like I wouldn't have cried as much the first time I watch it if it wasn't for gobta crying like that. It sounded so damn realistic. I still cry a little when I watch it to this date. Got tears in my eyes as I write this

What's funny about this is that most of the true demon lords, those who went through a harvest festival, have happened due to human actions. Guy Crimson was summoned by humans to destroy another nation, Milim went berserk because humans killed her pet dragon(Ramiris also became a demon lord to calm Milim down) and Rimuru decided to become a demon lord because humans attacked his nation. The other true demon lords might also be like this, but I don't think we know how they became demon lords.
