      Can anybody tell me if the soft toploaders (Super-Savers and Super-Saver II's) are good for shipping?

      Ive been using toploaders for cards worth over 5$, and Super Savers for anything cheap.

    The problem with sending cards in large bubblewrap-envelopes is that they will likely get sorted with larger packages that have a heavier weight (up to 2kg in the Norwegian Postal Service). A letter will be sorted with other letters, and therefore is more likely to receive less punishment during shipping. The bubblewrap will get other packages thrown on top of it, and then shipped in a bag to its destination. The letter will stack between other letters in a small "plastic box".
    If I had to choose between bubblewrap and a regular envelope, I think the envelope is safer. The bubblewrap do not protect much when other packages up to 2kg is thrown on top of it(from a distance).
    Source: I worked for the postal service almost 7 years.

    I've actually found the use of team bags works much better when used in conjunction with a soft sleeve and toploader. Team bags help fight moisture slightly better than paper does, which is why I always use them.
    I also caution on putting multiple cards in a single sleeve. If dust and/or dirt particles are present between cards they can in fact cause light scratches to foils / holographic cards due to all the movement involved with shipping.

      I would argue you don't NEED perfect fits in addition to a soft sleeve and toploader. However I would argue for each card gets their own sleeve. You can still go two to a toploader that way, I just find it odd to go three cards deep in a single sleeve and toplaoder combination.

    Another awesome video as always. There is one thing I'd like to throw out there (I apologize if it was mentioned in the video and I missed it). After ordering many cards online and being frustrated at having to fruitlessly pick at and shred cheap scotch tape with my fingernail, I'd like to suggest using a masking tape instead. Sure there are many brands of masking tape just like scotch tape, however, I feel masking tape is designed to come off cleaner than scotch tape while still sticking to and preventing cards from going anywhere. Again, great video, keep up the great work (or hobby).

    Masking tape is usually the best bet. Regular scotch tape gums up sometimes.
    I also tend to wrap my top loader in cling film to (somewhat) waterproof it. Never had complaints from doing this.

  • @Crasno
    @Crasno 8 років тому +1

    I usually avoid using tape altogether in my shipping, I see be reason to risk getting adhesive on the cards or ruining a tool loader with tape. I place the card in a penny sleeve, upside down in the top loader, and then take a normal sized sheet of copy paper, and place the top loader portrait oriented at the bottom of a portrait oriented sheet. Then, I take the edge and fold the paper over several times until there is now a nice toploader burrito'd inside a paper cocoon with the top of the toploader being covered. Now the card won't slip out of the toploader, and the paper adds some stability to the card once placed in the envelope, it moves around even less, and the sheet of paper you use could even be the shipping receipt if you have one.

    I saw a guide that had someone put a piece of tape on the penny sleeve and folder it over itself so that, when the person opened the toploader, they had a "tab" to pull the card out with. I think that, with your setup of bottom down, this would be a neat addition.

    Professor, I ask this of you, for the next video you do on this, please suggest using something similar to painters tape. Scotch tape while very secure can be painful to remove after shipping, leaving a sticky residue or simply a build up of tape from just cutting the 'top' to get at the card inside.

    Hey Tolarian Community College LOVE your videos have been watching them for a very long time:) You forgot 1 Very Important thing in your video, you forgot to add or talk about the non machinable stamp that should be applied to any card deliveries that are not flexible like thick paper is, What I have learned over the years of selling cards online is that my rate of undelivered cards were much higher when not adding the non machinable stamp, and I have found the reason for that being is that when you send a letter, it goes through sorting machines and when it is hard plastic or something is firm it will jam up the machines in usps. The manager at my local usps told me that it can add postage for your recipient (although more times then not they just be nice and let it go by) and she also thinks it would be possible for a worker getting frustrated and not delivering the letter all together!! Ever since I have been adding the nonmachinable stamp to all letters with toploaders in them or thicker letters I have had minimal-no undelivered complaints in the last 3 months, I think it should be addressed, thanks for the great videos!!

  • @nugTHUMPERrx
    @nugTHUMPERrx 9 років тому

    Thanks for showing the paper over the top loader trick. I can't stand when my cards come stuck to the tape. It has ruined a couple cards I've received.
    I now just use team bags (a resealable plastic bag). Yes it's a little more expense over all, but the bag fits over the top loader perfectly and keeps the cards safe and sound. My favorite online sellers have switched to doing this as well and I appreciate it very much.
    A couple of other things to note. Send in a bubble mailer and delivery confirmation for any card over $20 (or whatever you feel comfortable with). This is for the sellers protection as some might either get the card you send and say they didn't or more likely the Post Office just loses your mail.
    I use a 5"x7" bubble mailer and buy in bulk. Printing shipping labels is easy through Paypal (or other services) and is cheaper than going to the USPS.

  • @ReMeDy_TV
    @ReMeDy_TV 6 років тому +1

    Another tip: On the piece of paper you wrap around the toploader, write a small message, saying, "Thank you for your purchase!" That extra bit goes a long way in making the purchase feel more personal, entices the person to leave feedback when they wouldn't have otherwise, and possibly compels a scammer to second guess ripping you off.
    You can be more creative, if you like. For example, if you're selling a Liliana of the Veil, you could say, "I call her Lilly." Make it an E-rated comment, because you won't know the age, gender, religion, or background of your customer; you don't want to risk offending them. It's not worth risking a negative feedback over, lol.

    Or if you subscribe to the reuse mantra of recycling, slap two pieces of medium thickness cardboard cut to cover the card and then taped sparingly so that the card doesn't slip out. Additionally, the card is sleeved as well. So far has worked like a charm. Just make sure the envelope has enough postage, usually 71 cents within the US.

    Hi TCC. Thanks so much for this excellent video.
    I wanted to ask, why specifically 3 cards? You say 3 in your video, but the reason for exactly up to 3 in a single envelope (before going to the bubble mailer) isn't addressed. Is it simply because more than this would be too much weight to mail, or because more than 3 cards overfills a top loader?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Thank you for this video. I was wondering where does one purchase toploaders? I have plenty laying around from previous trades and from online purchases, but in case I need more, where could I find them?
    Also as a preference, i prefer, when having 2 cards in 1 sleeve, have them be placed back to back, instead of face to back. This is just simply because the sleeves usually have less friction on your cards than the back of cards.

      If your LGS doesnt sell them I would recommend an online bulk purchase, or I have seen them in the sports cards section of Target and Walmart.

    top loaders arent even sold in my country. i usually put bulk cards around the valuable card and tape them with cardboard. works like a charm.

    You forgot to mention one the main reasons to put the cards in the toploader upside down. If you don't, there is the chance that reaching into the toploader might damage the card(s), due to your fingernail or whatever. It has happened!
    Also, a good tip with standard business envelopes is to fold them in half, put the top loader in, then tape the folded envelope together. I use that technique all the time, and customers are happy.

    I don't aggree on the topic of tape on top of the toploader. It has proven really useful to completely seal the top of the toploader with tape in order to prevent waterdamage.

    When I send a large amount of cards I use cling film instead of tape, keeps them together well.

    For some reason, the professor swinging his hands to shake the card sleeve at 6:10 reminded me of Kermit the frog.

    I don't like multiple cards per sleeve. I once had 3 cards squashed into 1 sleeve and the card on the bottom got a mark on it where the bottom of the cards above was digging into it. Fair enough it was only a Temple of Silence but still not worthless. A little waterproofing can go a long way. A small sealed bag doesn't cost a fortune and people appreciate it.

    Professor, if you're old - well, we need to have the chat about dying on turn one without ever having an upkeep.
    I have to chuckle, I only see one paper wrapped, sparingly used tape, A1 envelope out of maybe 🤔... 10 or 15 packages? Wish i could send them a link to this. Need to send you the video of me using a xactoknife trying to get a sleeve open. 😭

    I am extremely OCD when it comes to dealing MTG cards. I would never place 2 cards in one sleeve. I might put 2 individually sleeved cards into a top loader but, my theory has always been to sleeve them separately and to place them in their own individual top loaders. This what I do with my Ebay auctions.

    Just an FYI to people using @tcgplayer to purchase cards. Seller @IWinGames purposefully tapes the top of the cardloader. They state they tape the toploader in a way that prevents the cards from touching the tape but this pinches the cards in the toploader. I have left appropriate feedback accordingly, 3/5 stars.

    In the UK you can use Royal Mail special delivery and it is tracked so the scammers can't scam you! It is a little pricey though

    i always add a layer of cardboard when i ship my cards , and it doesn't cost me any more than one 70c stamp because the weight doesn't go up enough to incur more charges.

    I don't like putting expensive cards all in the same sleeve. If dust gets in there and the cards are shifting, they will wear. When dealing with very expensive cards, I prefer sleeving each card with perfect fits and then putting them in a top loader (given there are not too many of them).
