My only issue I have with players saying a journalist never played but if someone has done the research and put the time in to learn the game and has covered the game for a lengthy amount time played or not they also share perspective that players don't have. If we went on this philosophy then there wouldn't be no news because that's how this world works. People study to talk about topics that they have covered for decades. Now my issue is not every player that has played needs to talk either because of the lack of journalism skills it's more emotional talking than actual facts and that's what players say journalist don't have so which one is it cuz it can't be both.

Nothing can replace the fan's perspective. Podcast by players provide better insight. But we can never have y'all perspective. We aren't pros. Your insight is needed. But fan perspective is a pivotal part of sportscasting.
I think the player podcast thing has a limited lifecycle though. Eventually it will burn out especially when it gets overly saturated and you come at it from a "I'm right because I played and you don't know what you're talking about because you didn't" standpoint. There will be outliers that will stick around for the long haul though like Gil, Shannon, Shaq, Cam, and other well known personalities in sports.

I love that retired players are getting the opportunities to make their own shows. But at the same time, they have their own biases against certain teams and players bc of their own experiences. So it will never be “better” than a traditional NBA journalist/analyst
I agree that no one will have a better outlook on sports than the athletes themselves. But the way your articulate your points is key to viewers. Which is why to a certain extent you'll always need sports journalists.
Kay Adams is great and asks about the family and kids and is so fascinated with their lives and gives us great info. She stays curious and never acts like the expert. She asks questions like it's her first time learning, even though she knows the answers. Gets the players to open up in a unique way.
Ive been saying this for years to my friends them big company need to replace those sports analyst a real former athlete cause them old people who only watch it for 50 years know nothing about sports they give alot of wrong information about the sports and athlete but at the same time its business they need to make money and alot of attention and thats the sad part about sports
Shad made a good point in terms of the media being more relatable to the average viewer than the athletes . While athletes can offer more detailed accounts/perspectives rooted in experience ..a large segment of the American sports viewing public didn’t play sports or played for a short amount of time . The analysts and journalists speak more from our perspective. They just have a more fleshed out view point due to access to information and other resources

That fitted tough Gil💯
My only issue I have with players saying a journalist never played but if someone has done the research and put the time in to learn the game and has covered the game for a lengthy amount time played or not they also share perspective that players don't have. If we went on this philosophy then there wouldn't be no news because that's how this world works. People study to talk about topics that they have covered for decades. Now my issue is not every player that has played needs to talk either because of the lack of journalism skills it's more emotional talking than actual facts and that's what players say journalist don't have so which one is it cuz it can't be both.
Imagine getting Skip Bayless on Gil’s show
Never understood why people who didn't play in the NBA are considered "expert" analysts.
U played?
@@hendrikdalnoot1989does he go around calling himself an expert analysts?
Many airplane mechanics don't know how to fly them. Sports caster are to report what they see. Just how health inspectors aren't chefs.
Because they study the x’s and o’s and the why’s and what’s and 90% of the players don’t know the what’s and why’s all this players podcast is about end really quick because it’s too many of them
Even if not the NBA, at least college. College, outside of D3, is pretty high-level, so if you lettered for 4 years you probably have reasonable knowledge of X and Os, along with perspective.
But there is NO reason fat Windhorst should be saying ANYTHING about basketball other than the business side (like contracts)
Skip morphed from a journalist to a tv personality and it killed his career lol
Killed his career by going out as the highest paid sports media personality on the network?
Everybody trying to be controversial and they are faking it, which is obvious so a cheaply made product.
He did great it just ran its course. The Brady melt down really hurt him.
They COOKED this segment! Especially Gil pointing out the fact that we know nothing about our favorite players because these "analysts" waste a whole interviews squandering them
Ayy Rashad & Gil Snapped At Da End I Ain’t Gone Lie 🔥💯
Personal decline is funny asf… 😂😂 Kmart used to fry they ass
No he didn’t
That’s a lie. And I doubt anyone said that skip personally declined him. Why would they tell him that it’s not even professional
I never remember Kenyon frying them, so Idk what he's talking about. 😂
Kenyon Martin can barely form sentences, it's like his brain has to buffer for several seconds. I can see why you're a fan.
🧢 he stuttered/stutters too much to get his point across lol
Absolutely valid. I grew up playing basketball, but nowhere near the nba. These guys that played in the league are the real experts.
They're experts on how to play the game and nothing else unless proven otherwise.
Enjoy retirement, Skip. No podcasts, no First take, no Uncle Shay without skip.
Shay don't need Skip
Rashad made a very good point and the purpose of “media” as a median from 2 types of people
We need both sides because pro basketball players not the only ppl Thts apart of the game it’s 2 way different prospective
Ernestine going be stuck with that yahoo ALL DAY NOW!!! 🤣
Didn’t skip say he loved his job more than his wife or something like that
🙏🏿
They let Skip go, he ain't leave on his own.
Correct he didn't just turn down that money
Prove it .since u know everything
“If I wanted to see a dinosaur I’d go to Jurassic park “ . Joysiah don’t get too cocky man. Wasn’t nothing fucking with skip and Shannon to be real. Don’t get to ahead of yourself as a host.
Facts. First things first is close in chemistry rn , and of course inside the nba . but undisputed in it’s prime was different.
@@tentoesdown9647Josiah sucks Gil he needs that small bread he gets😿😭
Honestly I hate him too. But the corniness is needed. Different blends of personality.
Gil said out of his own mouth that when he gets comfortable with hosting the show, he will take the hosting job from Josiah and he will get promoted...That hosting job you have isn't permanent
Great show... love your honest viewpoints..
see ya skippy.... bye bye
These guys are real and honest. They don’t sugarcoat it, but their opinions are generally spot on. Love Kenyon & Gil especially.
Gil is becoming the Skip Bayless of podcasts...
Absolutely ‼️
If Gil is Skip Baseless, then Rashad must be his Shannon Sharpe. Is it obvious?
@@galactic4830 Rashad no one takes him serious, he doesnt take himself serious, now Gil thinks he knows everything about everything and only his opinion is the opinion that matters
how
he actually played so u sound dumb
I feel like the ridiculous hot takes and screaming sports talk doesn't work anymore. Me personally I wanna hear normal sports talk
Bro be like ‘we have a crowd watching us ‘ camera cuts to crowd, it’s 6 people and 3 work for the show 😂😂😂
💀
I like the new setup for sure!!!!!! Very professional!!!
Great take Mccants, one of your best.
Shouldnt have been talkin sh*t *in my katt Williams voice *
😂😂😂😂
He left
Because the show’s ratings were tanking, because Shannon left after the disrespect of himself and Demar Hamlin let’s be honest.
@@beddybeezyy'all act like he called you the n word because he called you trash as athlete.
@@BigDic-qz8sumy nigga so u gone let somebody disrespect you disrespect is disrespectful no matter how u slice it
The disrespect got out of hand and it was only a matter of time before Shannon had enough. The minute Shannon started bringing props and doing club shay shay I stopped tuning in to see skip. Instead of grooming Shannon and letting him take over the show he started resenting the hire and he sabotaged the show. Shannon needs to bring Night cap to prime time and do a real late night tv show for sports.
Why is the truth disrespect black men got soft. No one talks about that
18mil for talking is crazy
Sound jealous
No, for bringing in views, which brings in Ad dollars, which = more money for the company. Getting money is all about the value you create.
Tell that to any rapper, comedian, radio host. U really taking a dumb down perspective
@@PotatoGunCamperyea it's crazy 18mill to talk but teachers and cops and cna don't get 100grand a year yea crazy

All these ninjas talkin like they eating! 😂 Keep the flow going guys. Great🎉 work🎉
K mart all tatted up, looks like a thug acts like a thug on the court but he wants a spot on TV

K mart did the show and he was always dressed in a suit
@@jaydell4039o wow a suit 🤣🤣Kenyon illiterate

So we gon act like Skip didnt put a couple of Black folks in position to be where they at now?😂😂😂
So we gon act like white people the only people to ever put anybody on? How many black people put on white people? Mf's always wanna bring race in it, just shows their character
At the expense of shittin on how many before and after?
Rashad be trolling us on other shows. He was so sound in this clip. Bro was cooking.
He’s playing his role perfectly for the show
Player podcast got plenty of weaknesses as well. Different than national media platforms. One will never replace the other
Imagine a non athlete to demand $25 mil to talk bout sports he never played professionally
Crazy
The Forbes guy that did the Chris Paul interview about investing was a small time reporter for the San Antonio spurs now doing a focus on business and black business men for FORBES 😂 these corps HATE sharing money with outsiders, it’s always inside baseball with them
Because you have to be entertaining
We don’t need to imagine. He is one of the most entertaining people in the world so good for him.
The world we live in dawg
Nothing can replace the fan's perspective. Podcast by players provide better insight. But we can never have y'all perspective. We aren't pros. Your insight is needed. But fan perspective is a pivotal part of sportscasting.
Either the bus gon hit you or you gon hit the bus is crazyyyyy 😂😂
I think the player podcast thing has a limited lifecycle though. Eventually it will burn out especially when it gets overly saturated and you come at it from a "I'm right because I played and you don't know what you're talking about because you didn't" standpoint. There will be outliers that will stick around for the long haul though like Gil, Shannon, Shaq, Cam, and other well known personalities in sports.
I think most locals know their teams we would run into plenty of players at a bar after games but now with social media not gonna happen
when skip left ESPN I was back and forth when Shannon came on I never watched first take again but he left I left and never watched undisputed again
I am with Gils Arenas with this he is leaving and he won't die In my words he has so much time put in working for a great organization no one should cry please the guy has a incentive package please the guy is okay
"Ya'll just walk out of separate doors, don't even talk to each other." 😅😂💀
Podcasts are a throwback to Talk Radio, so the older folk get drawn in by the nostalgic feel of it. The young folk are drawn in because of the engagement through social media, so they get to feel like they can stay connected and they get to feel like their opinions are heard and matter. 🤔🎙️📻🤷🏽♂️
I love that retired players are getting the opportunities to make their own shows. But at the same time, they have their own biases against certain teams and players bc of their own experiences. So it will never be “better” than a traditional NBA journalist/analyst
Gil’s face on the thumbnail was my reaction when I heard the news 😂
I agree that no one will have a better outlook on sports than the athletes themselves. But the way your articulate your points is key to viewers. Which is why to a certain extent you'll always need sports journalists.
Kay Adams is great and asks about the family and kids and is so fascinated with their lives and gives us great info. She stays curious and never acts like the expert. She asks questions like it's her first time learning, even though she knows the answers. Gets the players to open up in a unique way.
Rashad was preaching and you could tell that he was emotional about it. I salute his bravery.
Ive been saying this for years to my friends them big company need to replace those sports analyst a real former athlete cause them old people who only watch it for 50 years know nothing about sports they give alot of wrong information about the sports and athlete but at the same time its business they need to make money and alot of attention and thats the sad part about sports
Gil look like he never sleep he powered by coffee and energy drinks😂😂 good show
I’m so glad 😂😂😂😂😂 put ya glasses bk on SKIIIIp!
As a fan never criticizing no players but is good to hear real ball players talk not sas
I believe the rapper lil Wayne said going to it could never amount to going through it. Nice point 🤔
LOVE Rashad..🤣😂 "the TWO dividing points" then proceeds to outline 3🤣😂🤣
Shad made a good point in terms of the media being more relatable to the average viewer than the athletes . While athletes can offer more detailed accounts/perspectives rooted in experience ..a large segment of the American sports viewing public didn’t play sports or played for a short amount of time . The analysts and journalists speak more from our perspective. They just have a more fleshed out view point due to access to information and other resources
Actors, directors, musicians, politicians, and artists are also professions where people get judged by people who've never done the job. Hell, I'm a roofer and I'm frequently being judged by clients who never put one nail in a roof
