Scuddlebutt was a whole BOP!!!
Thanks much for the wonderful mention Daveed. I’m so happy that I was able to contribute to your storehouse of knowledge and pleasant memories.Congratulations on your well deserved success . One love ❤️
Come on Joy each Caribbean island has its own accent. In fact there are are a range of accents within each island. It depends on the geographical area.
Facts. Like duh we are different islands of of course we would sound different. Oh Joy
Sorry but having an accent and people think I'm British and I grew up in New Zealand. So most people can not tell. Mostly locals can tell the nuances.
@@DM-br7vt of course we can tell the difference between a British and New Zealand accent. There is a vast difference between a Trini and Jamaican accent, just simply listening to them you can tell the difference.
Most white ppl don't know the difference they'll think all Caribbean ppl sound from Jamaica
Daveed can wear things that no other man could ever pull off and he does it so effortlessly! I wish I had 1/10 of his swag and style!
Daveed's Sebastian was definately Trinidadian! I didn't hear any Jamacian at all. Excellent performance- Daveed!
Samuel would had been proud of him.
The first black Disney princess I remember was Brandy in 'Cinderella" (1997,tv movie). The first Disney princess of color I remember seeing was Jasmine from "Aladdin" in 1992..
And princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog (2009)
@@FatoumaYassinchannel Yes, Tiana was the first black Disney princess in an animated feature film.
I love hearing him sing in the movie, the accent made it all!!! "layv undar da zea is betta than enething they got goin on up de"
I was watching this thinking where do I know him from…. He’s Beau’s brother on Blackish!! Great to see him ..
I know him from Hamilton the musical.
Oh I still haven’t seen it…
And Hamilton ❤
Really, I couldn’t recognize him with the beard
Yeah, he's her brother. I also know him from blackish and his architectural digest house tour.
Can't wait for this flick! The cast is off the charts with talent!
Looks terrible.
Looks as bad as Queen Cleopatra, the worst reviewed show of all time. Check the 2% ratings on rotten tomatoes
Nah!! I will pass just like I did with every other lame remake
@@kevinouellette5316 that is horrible also!!! Black people need to start doing there own stories period
Sebastian is Trini to d bone. Fantastic job Daveed!🎉
that accent sounded nothing like a trini though...
He really is so lovely going to be a Disney legend for sure 💎
I loved this movie as a kid. I'm excited to see this version!
Yes, but there's CGI, I'm tired of live-action mixed with CGI.
Yes Joy we do know the difference between a Jamaican and Trinidadian accent .
Exactly, my mother is Trini.
Facts
He better get an Oscar nomination!!!! Under the sea should win original song.
Why not just hire a Jamaican actor for the role instead of the whole process of him visiting Jamaica and researching the accent…
Exactly
Cause that's a limitation to what an actor can do and can reject... as an actor you don't have to settle for a role due to your ethnicity or religion...
@@mysteriousVeewell his accent was bad so they might as well 🤷🏽♀️
He did a good job.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Daveed, and he did a great job, but they really could have just hired somebody with an natural accent
Halle is the reason for the season.
If you feel uncomfortable with an animation movie, you have some major issues.
Jealousy perhaps?
Or racism. Regardless it's a them issue 🤷🏾♀️
@@LifeisaBeautifulting that part 👑
Jealous? About poverty, illiteracy, crime ridden violent actions? Race swapping is only ok when it's this way. Too bad queen Cleopatra is the worst show ever to be rated on rotten tomatoes. Let's see how much this movie loses
This movie looks terrible.
@LifeisaBeautifulting not everything that people don't like is racist. You are the racist for thinking this way.
Joy actually compared Italian heritage to black heritage 😬
And... your point?
@@trollingwiththefacts1996 When people see Joy all they see is a white woman, not Italian, not Scottish, etc.
@@Thestrangerthingspodcast well in Joy's day as a child Italians were seen as white so you have to keep in mind that she's older so her experience was much different than younger Italians.
It's like watching the whole Jouvert Rum scenario again. 😮
When that one woman was like "as an italian american we weren't represented" i was like BUT LADY YOU'RE WHITE XD. White people have always been represented in media, dark skinned people not so much. She prolly knows that tho I'm just teasing
OMG, I saw the Little Mermaid at the Grand Lake Theatre too!!!
What does an Italian American look like Joy? Are Italian Americans not Caucasian? I'm on the floor laughing here.
Let's not be racist. Just like not all asian people looked the same. If your laughing at this then I have no more to say this is who you really are
@@sunsetrose5772 No I'm laughing because Joy thought that Caribbean people have the same accent then she tried to smooth her blunder over by saying that she never saw people like herself on TV.
😂😂😂😂😂
@Lizabeth X Italians aren’t purely white. They tend to be more olive-skinned. Italians have mixed bloodlines with the people on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea. So there’s some African/Arabic genes there. There are different levels, from those who do look very white, all the way to Italians who could pass for Indian.
So you’re the one I’m laughing at here, not Joy. You’re very ignorant to think people in Southern Europe are Caucasian. Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece,… they all have mixed bloodlines with people on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea.
@@naylas3908 Thank you for your thorough explanation. Point taken but let's insert it into the context. Does Joy fit that visual profile that you have elucidated upon? At the end of the day are olive skinned "mixed bloodline Italians" (i.e. not biracials) going to tick Black/African on the census. I don't think so. Joy did not need to insert herself into the conversation when she realized her faux pas. She could have said "I was not aware of that" or something along that line.
OMG! Daveed Diggs is gonna play the Jamaican-calypso singing of Sebastian, the singing crab from The New Little Mermaid! This is gonna be so exciting! Amanda Miccoli😁😁😍😍😍😍cr🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
Lady Calypso is Trinidadian. You are thinking of Jamaican reggae?😅
The original Sebastian accent was styled after a Trinidadian accent. Daveed said he tried to do his accent as a blend of Trinidad and Jamaican. Personally I don't know why he tried to do Jamaican because both calypso and the steelpan instrument featured in the song under the sea originate from Trinidad and Tobago.
Because everyone believes Sebastian is Jamaican. No one thinks of Trinidad. Because Jamaica is the more popular of the two island the general audience does not think of Trinidad. They hear Caribbean accent and automatically think Jamaica. It just how it goes.🇯🇲
@@Winniegirl85and that just shows ignorance lol
@@trini2DBone134 maybe so but it is what it is.
Joy what are you talking about?
I quickly realize that he and Jacob Tremblay were in Wonder.
I love the GRAND LAKE THEATER!
Original Sebastian had a Trini accent, not Jamaican? Jeez Luiz .
Daveed did such a great job but it seems like there is often an effort to really get actors who are the ethnicity of the character, would have been cool to have a Caribbean actor.
I can’t believe this is the same guy who did Body & Blood

I appreciate the passion but that wasn’t a Jamaican accent. No offense. I wish they’d give these parts to actual Jamaicans and stop watering down our accent. Nuff love and respect same way.
He wasn’t doing a Jamaican accent … I am so glad he didn’t because you’ll are too extra
The crab had a Trini accent so irrelevant anyway.
It wasn't any kind of Caribbean accent. This is a westerner trying to imitate a Caribbean accent and it shows.
@@ayannafrancis7835 Hush and worry about your own accent. Stay in your lane.

I like Daveed, saw the movie yesterday he did a good Caribbean accent. I do wish that just like with the original, they could have found a Caribbean voice actor. The o.g voice actor was from Trinidad. To Joy, yes you can tell the difference in accents
The kens and karens are mad bigly about the new Little Mermaid film. Sucks to be them.😄

Hey Joy: being italian is NOT the same as being black!!!
WAKE UP!!
Joy is right about shingles though.
Why not? Irish people were on the same level as black Americans when they came here in the 1800s. You only know your own twisted view of your own history so I don't expect you to know about it
@@kevinouellette5316, oh Irish people came in chains, in the hulls of rat infested filthy ships. Good to know.
Man, how did they cope through Jim Crow?
I know they were super disappointed to be drafted in the military just to serve in segregated regimens with inferior supplies only to come home to the country they fought for and still be called the N word and denied the GI Bill that all other soldiers who survived received.
Having whole towns burned to the ground and hundreds murdered must have been such a nightmare for the Irish. Especially, the part where they were hanged from trees and set on fire, alive, while their families were made to watch.
Your right it really was the exact same. Who knew 🤷🏾♀️.
Indentured servitude = slave, yes that is some twisted history.
@@kevinouellette5316
HaHaHa if you think being irish is the same as being black YOU are the twisted one!
Have a Nice Day tho
❤🌞❤
@@kevinouellette5316 Yes, the newly arrived immigrants such as the Irish, the Italians and other Europeans were treated poorly and stigmatized but don't try to equate their treatment with the treatment of Black Americans. After a few generations the descendants of these disenfranchised groups could assimilate and be accepted into proper white society and all its privileges and trappings . The same cannot be said for people of African descent. You see there is a 1 drop rule in America and only a few who were able (looked visually white) and were willing to "pass" did pass. A man/woman could be well educated, well traveled, have impeccable manners, a philanthropist but society will still see you as "a black ". On twisted history... I think it has been twisted to sanitize the true horrors of slavery and segregation. And it seems as if some do not want even the sanitized version to be taught anymore.
Italians were extremely discriminated against on this country

Joy needs to talk to her producers… I see multiple interviews where “someone tells her” something about the person she’s interviewing and it’s always wrong. Aurora James, Ludacri, Daveed. This show is too big for y’all to be so bad/misinformed when interviewing
🇯🇲
I guess that book be banned in florida people ban books about being racist is being racist😂😂make it make sense
Had no idea Joy was a person of color!!! Okay 👍
Depends on if you are northern or southern Italian. I have heard North Italy people refer to those from the South as black.
@Javi Ruiz, you seem to unaware that Italians aren’t white. They tend to be more olive-skinned. They have mixed bloodlines quite a bit with the people on the other side of the Mediterranean. Italian skin tones go all the way from white to people who could pass for Indian.
I'm sorry but his accent is already ruining Sebastien for me. It can't be too hard to find an authentic Jamaican voice actor that is still understandable for the a Western audience. Smh. They should have gotten the original voice actor.
I thought the same thing, but I didn't want to see it, I prefer an authentic Jamaican accent by a real Jamaican.

If this means anything to anybody, Jamaicans are VERY offended by him playing Sebastian … offensive and horrible
Boomed because it's black
No respect for the artists that made the animated film this is based on, and pure arrogance on Disney's part that their film is the definitive version to adapt rather than the actual story it's based on by Hans Christian Andersen.
Oh did the cast and movie get your unwashed panties in a bunch?
They think everything is sub Saharan, like Queen Cleopatra, with it's 2% rating on rotten tomatoes
I don't understand your concern about the cinematography v/s the bibliography of this story. I will say Disney does not hold a definitive sway for the little mermaid. There are many versions and hopefully there will be many more. Maybe with a little less tongue cutting out, and every step feels like 1000 knives... and suicide.
