I have been working hard on lowering my consumption, and so I appreciate this video. Overconsumption is so normalized in the fashion/makeup/fragrance industry and online. I am learning that I can love something without constantly buying.
I’m thinking about doing a declutter too even some niche perfumes that I payed a lot of money for. There is not really a good reason to keep perfumes that you don’t reach for.

Its interesting to note that not much niche perfumes made it to your final 19 bottles. I guess it goes to show that despite the big hype for niche fragrances, designer ones are still the fragrance that is easy to love and more versatile. Great selection for your final 19!!

Yes! I was just thinking this. It kind of helps to realize when you're constantly looking for something you buy into hype and really you don't need that much. There's a lot of great stuff out there but the fact she seems to have come back to original favorites that aren't that pricey or exotic amd only one or two niche.
@@lindamayer4697 True! I now am wary of UA-camrs pushing a niche perfume as a "favorite" and their bottles do not even have dents in them. I just buy perfumes based on scents that I know will work for me, regardless if its niche, designer, or celebrity
@@maxglam3011 Especially when you realize many influencers are gifted these high price point items for PR and are not buying them at large themselves while pushing them onto their audiences. Very sad relationship in all honesty. I think this is a very important revelation to always keep in mind regardless of the topic/product being recommended/reviewed
niche wouldn't really exist without social media...where would people buy them or hear about them, ya know?
I actually love that you can create amazing content and not have 400 bottles of perfume. You make feel so at ease decluttering now. I will only buy one now if I declutter one.

Think hard before you declutter. At the rate these perfume prices are heading and reformulations, might be something you regret big time later.

I have 64 and love every last one. Perfume and hygiene items are part of my self care so it excites me. I try to never blind buy perfume or buy perfumes I "kind of like." It stops me from being stuck with a crazy amount of perfumes
I finally decluttered my first perfume and it feels good. I was wearing Si for almost a year and I suddenly started to feel nothing while wearing it. I gave it to my boyfriend’s mom who absolutely loved the perfume when I wore it. It feels good because I have room for something else now because I was feeling so uninspired by it for a while. Meanwhile my boyfriend’s mom got a perfume that she loves.
I think many people are leaning toward this lifestyle of minimalism and living with more intention. Post pandemic, many people are more connected with what is important in life, and in addition it is so individual to truly have a fragrance wardrobe that is catered to one’s own lifestyle and persona. I love this! I have been doing the same, slowly creating a small fragrance wardrobe for myself that feels like “me”.
I salute the effort and thought you've put into this major declutter.
Constructive feedback here so please don't take it negatively. My issue was never that you change your mind about certain perfumes, it's actually the little time between you expressing how much you love them and then decluttering them. As a perfume reviewer/connoisseur, I expect that you form a more solid opinion about fragrances before sharing them on your channel.
I'm also a human and I did first impressions, and shared my real time thoughts. Unfortunately because our tastes change, and sometimes we change our minds rather quickly, I can't say that just because I've had it for x number of weeks or months this is my "final decision". It's never final. I'm not here to sell anyone anything. If I wanted to do that I'd pretend they're all great and keep raving!! I don't do that. Thank you for this perspective though 💗
I have been watching your channel from the beginning and wondered if a self proclaimed minimalist would be happy with a big collection. I too recently downsized substantially due to an upcoming multi state move. I had fun giving away a lot of my collection to daughters and daughter in laws. Now I’m down to 25 bottles and am extremely happy. I’ll continue ordering samples or going to a store because for me the fun part is hearing about a fragrance and then giving it a try💖💐🥰
I have about 25 too! Yay because I had way over 50... I have 2 daughters that took quite a few off my hands

yes. honestly it was fun... but the real me can't handle all that perfume lol. I don't like accumulating stuff. it causes me so much stress. I can still have just as much joy from 20 perfumes as 100 :)
Glad 19 works for you. I’m so happy with my 50 perfumes and will Not get rid of them ever. To each it’s own 😄
Do you use all of them?
Not all at once but I use them by season accordingly and they all get used. I can also wear perfume to work so that helps and every time I go out or even when I’m home launching I’ll wear a lighter scent.

I first got into fragrance in 2008… and what I’ve learned about having fragrance as a hobby, collecting, etc. is that it comes down to what you feel comfortable with (in regards to collection size). Once you feel overwhelmed, the hobby isn’t as fun. Also, my love of fragrance has had it’s ebbs and flows over the years, and I’m ok with that. I’m glad you feel better about your collection size; you’ll definitely enjoy the hobby more now! Thanks for posting!
I did a massive cull from my already small collection. I just closed my eyes and put every perfume that I didn’t reach for often on marketplace in a bundle. I ended up getting back about $400 which was a good sale day. Delina Exclusif also sadly went away as the tassel and bottle was smoke damaged and reminded me too much of a traumatic event…
On another note, my house was in a fire a year ago and when i did come back to collect my belongings I quickly knew which ones I wanted to retrieve (8 of my loves) but everything wasn’t important anymore. So my collection today is very practical as a perfume LOVER, I have clean & fresh, florals and a few date nights that can also double as event perfumes. But it’s kind of died down, I have decided to only bring in perfumes that I’ve tested and loved and eliminated blind buys completely. I still love watching your videos. You’ll forever be my favorite perfume blogger!

This video was kinda a reminder for me to never get out of control with my perfume collection. I have about 11 bottles and a few travel sprays but I only get 1oz bottles or 1.7 max because I know I would never finish them otherwise lol (I’m not an oversprayer) and they’re less money. But you’re right I feel less overwhelmed and it’s easier for me to decide what to wear. I was super shocked when I saw how much you decluttered but I’m really happy for you. I think your new system is a good idea. I truly wish you the best and hope your mental health is doing better (:

I’ve been watching your channel for almost a year now. I love the minimalism. I went a tad radical in my decluttering. I sold my beautiful custom built 3500sq ft home for a simple small 1400sq ft home. I move in a month. I am decluttering like crazy. It feels so freeing. Thank you Ilithia!

It makes sense to have fewer if your tastes are narrower. Your collection is: vanilla, florals, fruity/floral, and amber. If you were engaging in all perfume categories you'd need a lot more. You don't have greens, aromatics, animalics, ouds, incense, citrus, acquatics, and many other key categories for holistic perfume collection.

I never get why people who want to declutter a lot always keep bacarat AND cloud. And then say they almost smell the same. That would be a big reason for me to get rid of it

I have rather than buying bottles I've purchased samples. I hate going into stores to get fragrances as all the smells overwhelm me so i am never happy doing that and with covid I just don't like going out all that much anymore. But yea I got samples and 1 a day I smell a new scent on a card and rate them. When I find ones I like I try the wear it a day and see how it goes. If I like it I add it to a short list. Then after I've gone thru all the samples and I know my short list I re-wear and rate them again more critically till I'm hopeful to find my top 5 (1 EveryDay Casual, 2 Date Night, 3 Occasions, 4 Vacations, 5 The Hot Scent). And yea the other samples I may give away or some i figured i can use to scent my mail (yes my credit card payment may wind up with my worst of the worst scents, 1 know 2 i can use already) ☺ but I started with 75 samples so this is gonna take me a while to find my 5. But samples are far cheaper and a friend who is at the mall all the time and knows I have been wanting to start wearing perfume keeps getting a few freebies and it's great. Any way it is a way to try to find scents without breaking the bank to find a scent.
Great to see downsizing! I’m prone to these types of addictions, what I’ve been doing is using installment payment services on PayPal or Klarna. Usually I’ve changed my mind about the new one I want to buy by the time the previous one is paid off.
I only have 6 perfume, and thinking about sell one of them.

I’m happy to receive with open arms any of your decluttered perfumes 😁 I think one day I’ll try to bring down my collection to 50 (20 spring/summer, 20 fall/winter, 10 all seasons)
I realized few days ago that no matter how many fragrances I try I keep returning back to those that I already have, because they literally feel like they have become a part of me. All of them smell like different version of me,but yet they feel like... home. I just can't explain it. Spraying on something new feels weird now. I am in my 40s now and maybe it's a sign that I have finally matured. 😂I stil want to try and smell other fragrances just for the sake of experience, but I am not sure whether I want to add more to my collection. I am also very happy when I manage to finish a bottle.
I own 30 perfumes and I feel like I have an insanely big collection 😂
I'm with you on decluttering perfumes. I'm not sure how many I sold, but it was somewhere around 30. I now have 21 and feel that's manageable. I found I had too many that were similar and now it's scaled way back to those I really want. I might even let a few more go, but I'm unsure. When I have too many of anything it overwhelms me and I end up not using it at all. That was happening with my perfumes which is a total waste to just let them sit.

Can you share all the perfumes you declutteted?
I have about 10 perfumes and I dont even use them all, half is seasonal eg. Light blue (which I rarely use anyway even in the summer). If I had around 100 and had to decluter I’d imagine a fire and what perfumes I want to rescue the most, the ones I really don’t want to loose :)

for sure - but I did still need to explain because otherwise it would be very confusing why all of a sudden I'm getting rid of over half including many that I absolutely love. I think the info in the beginning is important. it speaks to more than just my perfume collection. :) But thank you I do appreciate that you don't feel I need to do any explaining per say :)

I’ve decided that I’m done with full bottles. I’m collecting vintage minis instead. The performance is better and it’s far cheaper! I love my minis! I use them all the time!
I de cluttered a bunch a few years back and I regret some of them: the ones I gave away were hard to find!

I just bought the Kayali Vanilla 28 perfume. I’m beyond excited! Everytime was near a Sephora (which isn’t often) I would have to go in for a spray but finally decided to just buy it.

Just received a travel size Kayali 28 last week and tried it for the first time. All I can say is Wow! ❤️. I’ve been ordering travel sized containers of many of these fragrances in search of a signature scent. So, my collection is growing, at least temporarily. Leaning toward Mon Guerlain so far.

I’m addicted too. But I also miss when I only had two at the time or even one. Cause that meant that was my signature perfume and everybody knew me by that particular smell. Now… nobody knows me by any smell… or if they think they do it’s something I may have use for Two times max …

That's how I feel about the entire Armani Si line! Si Fiori is the most beautiful fragrance its my everyday signature perfume for work, because its just gorgeous, mild, not too strong, feminine, and perfect for work..and the rest of the Si line are LOVES for me as well. I have the original formulation of Si and several backups of Si Fiori and Intense Black

You did a good job decluttering all those fragrances, lately I decided to do something similar I have about 5 to 8 bottles of fragrance that I'm not crazy about but I've used so I'm going to use those up before I purchase another one each bottle that I use up if I find something I love I will buy only what I love not what I like.
I have full bottled perfumes that I want to declutter by selling it so that way I don't feel like I wasted money but I can't find sites which might help me do that. So it would be really helpful if someone suggested some sites.

Its been a year since i maintained 50-55 bottles… i constantly declutter if i buy new one i need to let go of some… if i did not do this i might have reach to 300 bottles! As of the moment i wanna lower my bottles to 35-40 bottles… finger crossed i can do it lol
This is awesome! I’ve limited myself to having 12 max at any given time. I would love to be able to cut down to 6 for life. But, it’s a slow and painful process. 😊
Good for you. I have 3 full sized and 3 travel sprays of perfume that are my absolute favorites. I love perfume, but I can't justify spending all my money on it. I have had fun trying samples and when I run out of a full sized one, I may replace it with a new fragrance. I have had fun with the videos. It's been a fun exploration, but I don't want to become preoccupied or obsessed.
You are goals!! I use to work with an older lady who used one thing at a time… lipstick, lotions, perfume, nail polish, etc
She’s always looked put together and smelled great and best of all, was able to retire in her early 50s
I have been lessening my collection of everything recently bc I noticed I’ve kind of become a hoarder over quarantine lol!
I have made like 5 grand off Mercari this year. I still have a lot more to go but excited to lessen my collection.
May I ask what all you have been able to sell on mercari? Like what items are worth posting because people will actually buy them?
@@bnunya8540 I’ve been able to sell by bundles of makeup products, some hair tools, LOTS of perfumes, all of my high end clothing I’ve listed has sold (tons of lululemon and gymshark), high end shoes, and medical books.
@@bnunya8540 I’ve sold a little of everything tbh. I send offers to people who have liked my items for lesser prices every two days and have tried to list about 3-5 items on a weekly basis. I’ve sold everything besides 7 items so far.

Are your make up items name brand make up and are they use or brand new? And the selling of medical books is quite interesting lol I have a ton of law school books, thousands and thousands worth, and I wouldn’t have thought to try to sell those on Mercari

I’ve been doing the same thing! I’m letting go of anything that I don’t often reach for and I feel a lot happier now with the perfumes I do have. I love that they all are frequently used. 💜
You have inspired me yet again, ilithia! I went from about 18 down to just 12 and I feel great. It's true, you appreciate what you have when you remove the ones that cause clutter in your mind and cupboard. I even took all mine out of the boxes and put them on a tray! So pretty and feminine.
You may recall i was the one who said you inspired me with deceluttering and cleaning my house and I suppose this is an extension of that.
I gave away aura eau sensualle, angel Muse, lveb l'eclat, anais anais and idole. Looing at them and trying to convince myself to like them felt really off and kind of icky. It took me a few months but finally I posted them on the next door app and I gave them all to the first lady who actually showed up at my house!! She was so happy and overjoyed and I could see what a pleasant surprise this was for her and now I know they are indeed in the hands of someone who appreciates them. She even sent me a text later thanking me again and promising she'd share with her friend
Lol. I think she felt a bit greedy taking them all!!
Now I just have my one tray with my chosen 12 and I have kept samples and decants that I enjoy. I'm not on instagram or I'd post a pic of my newly umboxed and displayed on a tray perfume. 😊
PS good on you for decluttetong, I know it wad a bigger job for you than for me (I had about 20 total at the highest) I can tell that it has really benefited you and it was a grounding experience that brings you peace from your video. I feel the same
Going forward, I will purchase samples or small decants and test extensively before "making a statement by purchasing a full bottle that a perfume is right for me" ( from Laura sparkles great advice for saving money).
It's better for the environment, for me, for my pocketbook and for my family and it gives me a sense of peace and I don't want to say control, but more like a sense that I can trust myself to take time and use my money, space and energy wisely. 😊

I started my perfume journey on a trip to Italy. Luckily I was too broke to destroy myself, but I went crazy trying to find a niche perfume I loved from my trip, and I started sampling. So while I’ve had countless samples, but only 1-3 full bottles at a time. I am on a quest for a new signature scent. My current bottles are Florabotanica, Gris charnel, Sel Santal (almost gone) and Forest Lungs. Still searching for the One.
I have around 50 perfumes and my goal is to eventually get down to my top 25 (that's about how many will fit on the little perfume shelf my boyfriend built me). It's difficult but this video inspired me to look at what I have now and actually think about what my top favourites were and which were the most "me". I'm not planning on decluttering the rest because I still love and use them but I do plan on slowly using them up until I'm down to my top 25 and then hopefully only buying one here or there if it's one I think is worth the space it would take up in my collection.

I am always on the quest for the “perfect” fragrance, whether my new perfect signature scent, or a perfect evening scent, etc. It actually helps that I get overwhelmed at the thought of having too many so I tend to buy samples, but I’m realizing even that adds up over time and I have spent and accumulated a ton. Thank you for sharing your journey!

Wow. Eight. That seems like it’s so reasonable. If things had gone according to plan that would have been my ideal. But now… 15 - 20 is the best I can hope for.
I plan on decluttering, but def not down to 19. I enjoy my fragrances and the variety. My taste has shifted from designer to Niche and I love it. Good Luck on your journey.

I started a new channel because I wanted to do alot of fitness/activewear clothing content that wouldn't have made sense over here :):). Alot of my viewers are not interested in gym clothing :)
In the intro she said that she’s still going to review fragrance (but I guess not buy the full bottle which honestly isn’t necessary to review fragrances)

I definitely appreciate my perfumes more now that I have stopped buying.
With Miss Dior if your keeping it long term zipper bag with bubble wrap in a shoe box in the closet label the box and put it away. I have an old bottle of my grandmother's and it has kept for 20+ years and it still smells like it did when my grandmother wore it. Dark cool and safe will make it last alot longer than they say it should last. The sun light and heat and weather fluctuations cause the scent to change and ultimately go bad. Im sure you know that but personally was amazed when my grandmother's signature scent is still good (pulled it out on her birthday last May).

I read reading a minimalist home decor book this past week that called it "letting the room/space get quiet" before deciding what you have that's worth keeping in it. It's so true once you have only standouts, everything that's not as preferred as the others is more obvious.

I could have kept them all really! but I set in my head I wanted a certain number. so alot of my most loved just had to go :)

I am going to further decluter as well. I would like to keep 2 to 3 choices in each scent profile. Musk, freshie, vanilla, etc. I wanted to get to from 150 to about 60 tops. I do want to be able to enjoy my fragrances and now ....so many barely get sprayed ever and I hate it. I still enjoy watching my favorite reviewers because they do other content and vlogs.
I love that idea of 2 per scent profile… I’m going to use that approach. Tfs
