- Visitors Have Arrived!
The Carol Burnett Show was taped at CBS Studio 33 in Television City. It is now referred to The Bob Barker Studio.
This clip will be the last of the Match Game clips I'll post for a while. Random episodes will be uploaded every so often until further notice (check my playslist for the episodes).
Thanks for watching! - Розваги
Having that kind of fun, is what made Match Game, the best game show ever. What other show, would you see this kind of thing happen on. Certainly, none today.
Carol Burnett lives forever.
That is PURE GOLD!!! You don’t see that in today’s television, anymore.
This is so priceless, not only for their appearing and then playing, but Carol Burnett's reaction is hysterical to the question, and I agree with those who say that the show is so wonderful because of their chemistry and ability to entertain.
It was my favorite show then and it's still my favorite show now.
Both shows taped in Studio 33 at CBS in Hollywood. The schedule went like this:
Price Is Right: Monday thru Wednesday (two shows each day.
Carol Burnett: Thursday and Friday (show taped on Friday evening).
Match Game: Saturday and Sunday (taped six shows each day - five CBS shows and one syndicated show).
And _Match Game_ only recorded every other weekend.
I wonder why Carol and co. were there on a weekend?
Carol Burnett & all of her kooky friends are a trillion times better than the s*** that's on TV these days! Plus Match Game was & still is a gosh darn TV game show treasure! Thank you for posting such gems!
NOW, this was memerable entertainment at it's very, very, VERY best!
R.I.P to both Tim Conway and Jim Nabors.
Thank you for posting this as I LOVE Carol Burnett and I find myself enjoying the humor of the people in these bygone era game shows. I only watch 4 shows on tv today and it's sad I have to pay $80 a month to do so when you didn't have to pay to see shows like Matchgame and Carol Burnett. Such a wasteland tv is today.
These tidbits of the show are so awesome! Love Dawson greeting the unexpected guests too!
one of the best game shows of the seventies. Use to watch this as a kid
Carol Burnett was one of the greatest
I love how accommodating they all are for one another :)
This is too funny! I loved that show! And Gene Rayburn,He was just AWESOME! RIP Gene! I love you!
That is about as funny as it gets! Great clip, great show, great nostalgia!!
LOL Carol at 2:39 when she threw her board up in the air. Her face was classic.
And this is another one of...
Match Game's Memorable Moments
thanks a million for sharing these wonderful clips of Americana. It is wonderful to go back in time.
What an awesome moment; all those legends on one stage not giving a damn and having a great time. Classic tv.
The Carol Burnett Show was taped in the same studio.

leave it to Tim Conway to get the biggest laugh!
match game was pure, unscripted mayhem.
I love it when things get out of control!
Actually it was a Super Match question where Gene said "Cuckoo ____", and that's where the lady contestant said "Cuckoo, Fred, and Ollie", which was in reference to "Kukla, Fran, and Ollie" mentioned by Captain Paintball below.
Carol Burnett will awlays be awesome!!
You can see carols mind working overtime on this lol so funny!!
Yes, but Carol was thinking how to answer the question. You could see Tim working equally hard to come up with something that would bust up the others.
this is brilliant!
Oh I love Richard in this clip!!
Funny how he started to introduce everyone when you realize that Gene is the host of the show
90% of the time, once Gene grasped that he had lost control of the situation, it was usually because Richard has started it.
At about the 1:53 mark, I noticed a rare appearance of producer and judge Ira Skutch on the set rather than behind the scene when he was helping Gene and the rest of them getting the pens and paperfor Carol Burnett and the other 3 members of her show.
2:04 Gene: "Now where the Hell are we?" LMFAO!!!
That was always a fun show to watch.
Gene: "Now, where the hell are we I, I forgot, I lost my place"
the look on Carol Burnett's face is priceless.
Tim Conway...Hilarious! LMAO
R.I.P Jim Nabors
I remember this show but wasn't old enough to understand it or be interested in it. My father would come home from work and turn on Match Game. He also threw shoes at the t.v. when the screen fuzzed up.
That is why match game was great, because those guys were having fun, no drama on the set.
carol burnett is hilarious, love her voice
Wow, this is hillarious!
There was a contestant on Match Game that when asked a question it went like "something brought a cuckoo ___" the contestant answered "fran and ollie." The panelists were in awe and couldn't contain themselves.
📺 When TV game shows were spontaneous & fun. Why don't they do things like this anymore?
I remember seeing this at the time it was aired. Where has the time gone?
Love it
that was cooooooooool
Fared I love Richard wish I was born in his era he's so charming!!!
It would have been a hoot to have all of them on a show.
You don't see this anymore. What a cool thing to see.
The last time I saw it was 2013 I miss it :'(
Classic!!!!!!!
Jim Nabors appeared usually on the first episode of the new season of each Burnett show (of course he was Burnett's first guest star as well back in 1967), as Carol considered him a "good luck charm", so they must've completed the first episode of the last season of the Burnett show. Dick Van Dyke was on the Burnett show for 4 weeks, and according to his bio, he said it was a fun show to do, but decided after that time that he didn't really want to do the show regularly. This was early '78 because Richard isn't yet showing any displeasure being on the show... that came later. Note Vicki squirmed a bit when Gene tried to hug her, and looked uncomfortable when she played the game. She was only on the 70s version 3 times, during the first week of '73, later in '78, then once in the syndicated run.
+Matthew Kaiser Thanks. Why DID RIchard eventually act up? I thought he had perhaps run out of shtick and so played off his own personality, or a part of it. Was he sick of doing this show? And, why was Bob Barker always in a foul mood when here?
Richard Dawson acted up because he wanted off the show, and he couldn't get out of his contract. Family Feud at this point was surpassing Match Game ratings wise, also in syndication. From his viewpoint, he had his own show, and he didn't need Match Game. In one of his last interviews, Richard also commented that he didn't like the increasing risque nature of some of the questions, and it also didn't help when the Star Wheel took away from contestants choosing him for the bonus round. As for Bob Barker, I didn't really notice him in a foul mood. So far as I know, he liked Match Game, but didn't like playing the head to head. I honestly don't recall the Star Wheel ever landing on him, but there is a UA-cam clip of him CURSING (you can barely hear it) when the Star Wheel comes close to landing on his name, only to pass it, and he can be heard saying "oh good".
Just reviewed some Bob clips and you're right he is actually quite jolly, it's nice. I do remember at least one MG episode where he seemed miserable...lost to time. Thanks for your help, Matthew. p.s. I agree with Dawson as regards the taste level eventually falling: it wasn't the fact that it was off-color. Compared to a lot I heard in everyday life, it could not be offensive to me. You just lost the humor that way and I guess a bit of the feeling of the show. But what else could they have done? You can't hold back time, and times were changing.
Yeah, with Richard gradually fading out, once he got to the point where he was only saying his answer and nothing more, it really ruined the rhythm. He was the "comic relief" in the lower tier, while Brett and Charles were the "comic relief" in the upper tier, Once Richard stopped being funny, Brett and Charles had to work harder to keep the game interesting. Granted, there were rare occasions in the later '78 episodes were Richard was in a better mood than usual and was actually funny (the producers played backgammon with him to try to lift up his spirits, as Richard loved backgammon), but he never returned to the level of funny he was on Match Game 75. (He was without a doubt at his peak then... once he got Feud in '76 he was still being funny but he wasn't as chatty with the contestants, and towards the end of '77 he gradually withdrew more.
+Matthew Kaiser Might have to agree. '73-'76 were definitely Dawson's best years on MG. '77 wasn't too bad either though certain times perhaps his 'fading' is present. '78 was a real bittersweet year for MG. The shows time slot change in '77 caused serious damage to the shows ratings and FF was now the top rated daytime game show. As you noted, Richard most likely felt by this point that continuing on MG wasnt necessary anymore. However, it would be a few months before he would be let go permanently and, as far as I think, the show really wasnt the same anymore. The show would continue until '82 but Richard was as much a part of the show as the rest. Incase people want the specifics, this clip is from episode 1149 of MG78. Richard's 'withdraw' begins with 1166-1175 (check out 1173 on YT). Episodes 1176-1195 he's in a somewhat better mood (1180) but withdraw is still present at times (1181). Oddly, Richard is more like his old self in 1196-1215 (check out 1197, 1200 or 1215 on YT). In episodes 1216-1265, he's in an ok mood. 1226-1230 are probably the worst of these episodes (1226 is the incident where he refuses to smile for the audience). However, he's in 'up' mood in 1231-1240. Episode 1246 marks the debut of the Star Wheel. Richard sours up again in 1266-1285 with the latter being his final episode (he cracks a few jokes in PM#119). Richard is wearing sunglasses due to an eye infection in episodes 1276-1285.
Hey when jim neighbour become apart of carol burnetts crazy bunch he's known to everyone as gomer Pyle well golllly Sargent carter lol this was funny to have the ppz of the carol Burnett show on MG this was really funny I'm from Australia ty!!!!
Jim was the guest on the first episode of every season of The Carol Burnett Show.
Even Tim was only an official cast member for one season. He was just an incredibly common guest star up to that point.
Anyone remember when Carol Burnett made a brief appearance on TPIR in the mid-90s? Must've been when Noises Off was around.
@MrCombat1965 Harvey Korman had quit the show at this time.
The contestant kind of looks like the dad from Family Ties! LOL!
'Spelling doesn't count." LOL!
Jim Nabors passed away yesterday at age 87. RIP
But, she did a week on Feud '94. By that point, he'd mellowed significantly.

Gene promised "extra money" for the contestant if they match...can he do that?
He was kidding...it could be monopoly money.
note, the contestant got the 'ding' for the three right answers, but he didn't get any more triangles on his board.
Vicki rocks
Match Game 78. :)
Didi Conn....yum!
I Knew Richard Dawson was gonna kiss! and Gene Rayburn Kissed a little LOL!
Oh it's from the last season of the Carol Burnett show i guess!
That's what I'm thinking too since Harvey Korman left at the end of the 1976-77 season and this would have been during the final season if so.
Love love love the Match Game...funniest part of this clip might just be that the contestant's name is 'Dick Shoe'!
every woman loved richard dawson
