Percussionists think that usually. I’ve literally seen percussionists play a song at a concert strictly with a table and another song with just a metal trash can.
"Make it so you have to time out for every death." What an amateur. Now, making them time out each time via Ceave's p-switch stalling mechanism that stretches that 500 seconds out to several hours each life. That's the real devilry.
@Finn Jager I mean. In all fairness, I suppose, a level is only devilish up to the point that you can make people waste time on it. So, really we just need to figure out how long we can stretch all these gimmicks out before a person will just shatter right before the finish line. So, how many times can we trigger the Link powerup sound in 10 minutes?
Isn't the entire point of the p-switch mechanism that you die if you don't go in the pipe/door? I don't think there's a way to force someone to do the p-switch thing if they know the only reward is death, because they'll just kill themselves by not going in the pipe/door.
@Finn Jager You mean the worst Auto leve in existence where you just continuously damage boost through everything? I still wonder how it ended up on Adamzone's top list, probably he was just going by number of plays.

Ok, let me explain the last level. When you collect a pink coin, then grab a checkpoint, your pink coin progress is saved, unless you get every pink coin, in which case death is a keydeath. The ELB (entity limit B) in this level is filled with the munchers on the screen. Pink coins count toward the ELB during the 34 frame collection animation. Above each pink coin is a ? block, a launcher, and a Bob-omb. When you grab a pink coin, you're forced to hit the ? block, which releases a POW and kills the Bob-omb. The POW only actually comes out if there's a free space in the ELB, which does not happen if you just collected a pink coin. If the ELB is full (at 100), the Bob-omb explodes, and the muncher above hits a P switch, forcing you to go down. CP0: You spawn. Yay. CP1: It's just CP1 when you grab it, but you grab the fourth pink coin first in the CP1 room, which works a bit different. I'll call this CP by the name FCP1, for Flag Checkpoint 1. The ? block above this pink coin has a blue block above its blaster, so you can't activate it. You fall down, and the switch state is still blue, so in the other room, kicking the shelmet sets it to red. The fourth pink coin has a P-switch in the ? block above it, which activates if there's no pink coin collected. FCP2: Also just normal CP2 (FCP2). When you collect this for the first time, the switch state is red, so a piranha plant has to kill you. This does not count toward the CP count because if you died between CP1 and this FCP2 you would get set forward. CP2: You get the first pink coin in the FCP2 room, then grab FCP1. CP3: Get back to FCP2. CP4: Second pink coin in the FCP2 room, then get FCP1. CP5: FCP2. CP6: Third pink coin in the FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP7: FCP2 CP8: Fourth pink coin in the FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP9: FCP2 CP10: Fifth pink coin in the FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP11: FCP2 CP12: FCP1, but the P switch is off, so you can continue and get the first pink coin in the FCP1 room. CP13: First pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1 CP14: FCP2 CP15: Second pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1 CP16: FCP2 CP17: Third pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1 CP18: FCP2 CP19: Hit the block above the fourth pink coin to activate the P switch, then take the fifth pink coin, giving you a key. The P switch keeps you from finishing the level, so you have to go grab FCP1 again. Then, you get keydeathed. CP20: FCP2 CP21: Grab the first pink coin in the FCP2 room. Because the switch is now red, which changes to blue, on the first pink coin, the P switch activates, and lets you survive to get back to FCP1 through the red pipe. This also gives you the 5th pink coin in the FCP1 room, before forcing you to collect FCP1. CP22: FCP2 CP23: Second pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP24: FCP2 CP25: Third pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP26: FCP2 CP27: Fourth pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP28: FCP2 CP29: Fifth pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP30: FCP2 CP31: First pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1. Because the P switch is off, it sends you to the pink coins first. CP32: FCP2 CP33: Second pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1 CP34: FCP2 CP35: Third pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1 CP36: FCP2 CP37: Fourth pink coin in FCP1 room (last one, because you collected the fifth already). The P-switch doesn't go off, because you collected the pink coin there. At the fifth pink coin, which was already collected, you spawn a chain chomp, which keydeaths you, but respawns you at FCP2. CP38: First pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP39: FCP2 CP40: Second pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP41: FCP2 CP42: Third pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP43: FCP2 CP44: Fourth pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP45: FCP2 CP46: Fifth pink coin in FCP2 room, then FCP1 CP47: FCP2 CP48: Back to FCP1 room, without a P switch, so you can start doing the FCP1 room's pink coins for the third time. Collect the first pink coin in there, then collect FCP1. CP49: FCP2 CP50: Second pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1 CP51: FCP2 CP52: Third pink coin in FCP1 room, then FCP1 CP53: FCP2 CP54: Fourth and fifth pink coins in FCP1 room. Because there was a pink coin you collected, the P switch doesn't go off for the fourth pink coin, and you can collect the fifth pink coin. Because of the P switch state, the ELB is full, so the chain chomp can't keydeath you, and you collect the goal. Yes, I just found out from writing this, the level actually has 54 checkpoints. (55 if you include CP0 and 56 if you include the initial collection of FCP2) And, for anyone wondering about the dev exit, I believe that secret block is near FCP1, because that is the only location that can be accessed from all 3 clearchecks.
I sent this to Defender's discord, and we got into a debate as to whether keydeaths count as CPs. If they don't, then the count is actually 54 CPs, because there are 2 keydeaths, but the first one also makes you grab a CP. Still, everyone claims the level has 51 CPs. EDIT: Ok, 53 i guess, because CP1 and CP2 don't have a death in between. EDIT2: I guess CP55 also isn't an actual CP, so it's just 52 CPs.

"I have nothing against furries, but" Nah man, no buts. If furries had had anything to do with the Cats movie it wouldn't look like Uncanny Valley CG trashfire :B
Obligatory not a furry. The only good part of the cats movie is that taylor swift, and the lead actress are hotter as a cat. Everyone else is an abomination against the eyes.
Toad kept getting closer and closer to falling off the canon then it just puts itself right back under him. The Link costume at the end was a surprise. Carl! Why are you not leaving likes on levels?! The saws on the pipes were to prevent you from seeing *which* pipe you were coming out of that was blocked each time. Oh, hey, you liked a level. Almost bonked it too far and it would have missed the bomb. Lucky it hit you instead of the shield. Thanks for the translation David. Ten red coins, five times through plus one more for the end. I got trolled. I *saw* the text at the top just after having started reading the bit in the middle but I didn't go and read it first. Thanks for the video content Carl. Thanks for the editing David.
That clown car thing definitely could be used in some troll levels ex. a door one block above the ground leading to a room with the setup but then you have to go down to run into lava or something
That area 51 level is a bloody impressive feat of engineering game mechanics, and with the discovery of more glitches there's so much puzzle potential! Gotta say my favorite blindfolded speedrun is castlevania's symphony of the night, didn't know it could be beaten that fast let alone memorized entirely by audio. Fun stuff with the optical illusions too, always had fun flipping the rotating ones around to see how many ways it could be turning.
I started watching your vhannel because of one screen puzzles, stayed for your representation of content. but tbh i really enjoy(ed) one screen puzzles. So i personally am rooting for one screen puzzles, but honestly love every other upload. so keep it up as you do, but with a little more one screen puxxles to please me one subjective viewer. (probably several more viewers being in the same boat as me), but if that is not true keep doing what you do, necause i love it. but personnally more one screen puzzles. fkn love your content anyways so keep it up :)
i love optical illusions! There are so many of them that are like "which of these two shapes is bigger? Surprise they're the same size! it's an optical illuuuuuuusion!!!!!!!" a good way to troll me is to do one of those, but have the shapes actually be different sizes.
I think the CP level goes beyond Ceave tech-- i havent watched ceave lately though, so im not sure if he improved his game. incase ur curious, it utilized the entity limits and the fact that collected red coins are entities.
@@gairisiuil Yeah exactly, in fact I was refering to this video: ua-cam.com/video/-0ufuT63G5Y/v-deo.html .It's the ANIMATION of collecting red coin that counts towards ELB, to be precise. This fact combined with red coin repawn behavior & one-way door spamming ELB blockage made said Ceave's level work. The CP level is basically the same, despite he simply used muncher insdead of one-way door to flood ELB, and a really clever setup forcing the player to die, after each red coin being collected. The real myth to me is how he used only two screens to ensure 51 deaths, and how did the maker upload the level. And we all know why did he upload this level:)
The 51 checkpoint level worked by hitting a block that block, and that block would have a pow in it, but the pow can't spawn so the muncher falls and hits a p-switch, but if you collect a red coin then the pow can spawn and the muncher won't hit the p-switch, since the pow stops it from falling, since red coins are saved between checkpoints, it changes slightly each time and you make it a bit further
46:18 That was great! I think the reason that works is that the top left tends to be the date of whatever you're reading so it doesn't matter and the biggest are the title so you start then go down. 46:51 Trippy 46:55 Again really cool 47:14 Wait what... 49:44 Good shit editor Some awesome levels and great fun, but now I need to go to that subreddit.
50:50 that's the same phenomena that happened with this kids radio and tape player I had! It had vibrant yellow letters on a red body, and as you moved your head or shook the radio, it looked like the letters would be bouncing all around
IamI3rian uhhh January first is consistently the first day of the year. ‘Consistently’ doesn’t refer to frequency, it refers to how accurately something follows a pattern, like ‘once every three days’
So I have prism lenses in my glasses and it makes reds pop out towards me and blues push in away from me and some illusions are even weirder because of it.
The dev block is near CP2. I know that because the only places that can be accessed from all 3 clearchecks are the area near CP1 and the CP2 shaft. Because the main world is small, there is no space to hide a track timer there, so it has to be in the subworld. That dev block probably has a Link sword in it, which can be used to kill the piranha plant that appears after CP2 if the clearcheck is done from CP0. After that, the path to CP1 can be taken after the first pink coin in the CP2 room is grabbed, and the CP1 room has some POW blocks that can be hit with the sword to get to the flagpole. It's the only explanation for why the wall there is made of POWs and there is no ground wall.
This is a long post explaining the contraptions, so I'll try to divide it into parts. 1. The 51 CP level used ELB manipulation to detect when the ELB was full (when you collect a pink coin) and trigger a P switch. The ELB was overflowed with the munchers above to 98 spots taken, and the test launcher probably spits out shelmets. The first shelmet bounces off a wall and comes back toward the launcher to go past, but a second shelmet gets spit out and destroys the first shelmet. Then, a third shelmet repeats. When the ELB is full, that second shelmet doesn't come out right away, so the first shelmet can reach the P switch. 2. Each level is limited to 10 pink coins (5 in main world, 5 in subworld), so the level keydeaths you to continue creating checkpoints. When this happens, the coin on the right is collected, which is saved when you get the CP, and you repeat the sequence. 3. When you grab a CP, every pink coin you've collected stays collected, unless you collect all of them to get a key (aka keydeath). This lets you create additional checkpoints. 4. Actually, that crazy setup described in 1 doesn't exist. It's literally a detector by trying to spawn a POW because you have to hit the ? block to get the pink coin and continue. 5. The second round of the CP2 room, you are able to survive the first column, which means you continue with the 2-state blocks in the blue state. This lets you enter the left pipe on the bottom, and collect the rightmost coin in the CP1 room. 6. The bob-ombs above the blasters blow up when you hit the ? blocks, which means when a POW block starts taking space, a bob-omb stops taking space, so the ELB stays at 99 (not 98 like I thought earlier.)
Visual Perception was one of my favorite classes in optometry school, cause the way the biological stuff in your eyes interacts with your brain, and how you actually process the information of vision is super complicated and weird, and it's adapted from evolutionary survival traits. For example the image disappearing when you stare at it is caused because your brain will tune out non-moving images in order to see subtle movement from predators, but also because of the retina being overstimulated and being unable to keep up with the processing of the image (which is why you get the inverted after-image effect). And then there's visual flicker, on/off cells, color vision, how purple doesn't actually exist, how the actual visual limit of humans is based on the literal size of the cells in your retina. Such cool stuff.
Hi Carl, I have been watching for about a year. I always really like when you end a video on “science stuff” or other random things, but this ending was awesome! I had seen a few before but many I had never seen. Thank you and I wish you great success.
The 51 CP one seems to work off the fact that apparently a sprite coming out of a block can't occupy the same space as a red coin that's being collected and so the red coin takes precedent, making the POW disappear. This allows the level to 'save information' between deaths, meaning that when you get to the same section again when you hit the block the POW spawns and the muncher doesn't hit the P-switch. The other 'information' that seems to be saved is based on which CP you die at when the ON/OFF block is activated, since the switch block resets but the CP doesn't. This means that something about the setup changes based upon that positioning. There may be something else but I didn't catch it.
47:03 when he showed them, i was like "oh yeah i totally see... they are moving" Carl: "They are the exact same colour" me: "well... yeah... but they are also rolling around... right?"
Damn this video breaks your brain, between the optical illusions at the end, the 51CP madness, and the player launchers, and then the 4 room fake replicas Watching that section again clued me into how they did it visually You have four pipes. Entrance, bottom decor, top decor, exit The saws and launcher must hide the player, preventing them from poking out and revealing the tech
Carl I'll have you know that watching people play Dark Souls is a lot of fun for me. Right now I'm watching PooBear go through DS3 and previously watched him go through the first one. I know I'm just one person but watching it is kind of like watching the 51 checkpoint level. The streamer gets a lot of interaction from the chat and it's awesome to see streamers react to finally beating enemies. But in the end, you can do whatever you want
Ive actually been training my eye/brain to be able to see around some of these things. some of them you still have to logic your way around them, but you can actually change the way you perceive some of them. for example, the road one. the one on the one looks like it has a lower slope (to put it to a term), but i logically know it isnt almost instantly, but thats just a pretty common illusion. the mickey mouse one, i see why it looks like he's moving, but with a little bit of focus i can see his silhouette as stable and see his edge as the part thats really moving for the one with the ""multicolored"" balls, i just see the balls as they are, the same color. its the almost pinkish thing. ive always been able to do this one sorta, where i just see the pixels as they really are, without having to take shading and whatnot into effect (same thing happened with the dress, i saw it as blueish and yellow, the actual colors of the pixels) circles were p quick, once i knew what i was looking for
19:20 I was wrecking myself on that... I gave up (due to having to study) but I am so glad I wasn't the only one going crazy trying to figure it out. @CarlSagan42, I also wanted to ask you on stream, but never got the chance too. Have you heard, or read, about the xenobot that was created using frog stem cells. As a cybersecurity person, this concerns me greatly when we start introducing AI and Machine learning into a somewhat sentient life form, but what are your thoughts on something as crazy as creating xenobots?
They made a few of them actually, and had them moving small objects. The tech is coming along nicely, but it's still atleast a decade from practical application. I think the most interesting aspect is because they used a combination of skin and heart cells, when deliberately damaged the xenobots were able to repair themselves. We have medications to help supress an immune response to reject donor organs, so theoretically the same medication could be used to allow these little guys to remain within our system to clear plaque buildup in arteries or other medical applications. Granted, the possiby unethical applications are concerning, but that's a given risk with any new technology, and we will create defenses and failsafes as it developes further.
Carl: I don't enjoy streaming super slow stuff where you just keep running around Also Carl's entire library: is him aimlessly running around in troll levels
Honestly for me, distractions work the best to get rid of anxiety. For me just completely focusing on something else works the best. It is hard to get it to work with a really bad break down but it works for me most of the time.
I think the "slanted street" effect is because our brain is trying to find a single vanishing point in the "combined image" but both of the images have their own vanishing point for perspective, so the right side one "looks more slanted" because compared to our imaginary vanishing point it kinda is
What blows my mind with the Ball optical illusion is that it effects me even with my glasses off, even though all the stripes have blurred out of my sight basically.
That image phenomenon has been happening to me since I was a wee lad, except in the opposite sense. Basically, if you're in the dark and you stare at a visible object, eventually everything blacks out

"That's all it takes? This game is so broken!" he says after carefully combining four slopes, four more blocks, a clown cart, an enlarged thwomp, a muncher and a cannon and stands on top of that.
I used to do variants of the illusion at 45:30 when I was a kid with patterns on the tiles in bathrooms and with my own face in dark rooms in front of the mirror - yup, it too can disappear!
46:15 I read the "last" one second. My Brain probably sees the big one but notices there's one ontop and you usually start ontop so it goes there. I'm also a pupil.

EDIT: Ok, 53 i guess, because CP1 and CP2 don't have a death in between.
EDIT2: I guess CP55 also isn't an actual CP, so it's just 52 CPs.
TLDR.
I enjoy clicking on a Carl video, instantly seeing him trolled in the intro, and then going into the comments to see the only one is him making a bad joke.

Me before watching video: "51 checkpoints? 1 for each minute !" :D
Fun stuff with the optical illusions too, always had fun flipping the rotating ones around to see how many ways it could be turning.

i love optical illusions! There are so many of them that are like "which of these two shapes is bigger? Surprise they're the same size! it's an optical illuuuuuuusion!!!!!!!" a good way to troll me is to do one of those, but have the shapes actually be different sizes.
The checkpoint level is actually the best practice of Ceave's "how to store info between death"(not really ,no)
I think the CP level goes beyond Ceave tech-- i havent watched ceave lately though, so im not sure if he improved his game. incase ur curious, it utilized the entity limits and the fact that collected red coins are entities.
@@gairisiuil thats what ceaves video talked about
@@gairisiuil Yeah exactly, in fact I was refering to this video: ua-cam.com/video/-0ufuT63G5Y/v-deo.html .It's the ANIMATION of collecting red coin that counts towards ELB, to be precise.
@@reimuliascarlett774 It was mentioned in the stream, there's a secret block SOMEWHERE that falls around 50 seconds left that they used to clear clean
@@syrelian I see it now, it's horrible.Carl said in this vid too, but I wasnt paying any attention lol
1 minute in and Link is gyrating and the levels are janky...
Classic Carl Content!
46:18 That was great! I think the reason that works is that the top left tends to be the date of whatever you're reading so it doesn't matter and the biggest are the title so you start then go down.

50:50 that's the same phenomena that happened with this kids radio and tape player I had! It had vibrant yellow letters on a red body, and as you moved your head or shook the radio, it looked like the letters would be bouncing all around
DGR is literally in the first level code wow
38:02 > Implying History is not a science. I now feel personally attacked :(
I love how consistently you upload stuff!

Carl sounds very happy. Like a kid in a toy store.
A very good sound indeed
17:28 This kills me.

*Plays super Mario maker 2*

18:15 That was a huge mind blown for a second
1:20 Textbook sounding "yeet"
4:32 Yeah, it's a time compression machine. You build up speed for 12 hours, in only a few seconds.
I came back to re-watch this video, an noticed the first level's code starts with DGR. So that's where the jank in that level came from.
After "you will read this first", my eyes darted up to the top and saw "you will read this last".
Did you stop reading after that?
11:50 putting a door in the middle of that contraption would be a “fun” red herring

Hi Carl, I have been watching for about a year. I always really like when you end a video on “science stuff” or other random things, but this ending was awesome! I had seen a few before but many I had never seen. Thank you and I wish you great success.
Next video: this level has 51 goal poles
Mahmoud Souman fake goal poles? 🤔
I was just about to go to sleep. Guess I have to watch this now.
47:03 when he showed them, i was like "oh yeah i totally see... they are moving"

Ive actually been training my eye/brain to be able to see around some of these things. some of them you still have to logic your way around them, but you can actually change the way you perceive some of them.
for example, the road one. the one on the one looks like it has a lower slope (to put it to a term), but i logically know it isnt almost instantly, but thats just a pretty common illusion.
the mickey mouse one, i see why it looks like he's moving, but with a little bit of focus i can see his silhouette as stable and see his edge as the part thats really moving
for the one with the ""multicolored"" balls, i just see the balls as they are, the same color. its the almost pinkish thing. ive always been able to do this one sorta, where i just see the pixels as they really are, without having to take shading and whatnot into effect (same thing happened with the dress, i saw it as blueish and yellow, the actual colors of the pixels)
circles were p quick, once i knew what i was looking for

The dress was actually blue and black so you were deceived

49:30
I thought it couldn't be the same colour because it's a magic cube which has 6 differently coloured center pieces
I used to do variants of the illusion at 45:30 when I was a kid with patterns on the tiles in bathrooms and with my own face in dark rooms in front of the mirror - yup, it too can disappear!
46:15 I read the "last" one second.
