The lore argument isn't even valid here because they already made a prototype Rabbit Sonic skin, a design/character that isn't canon in the slightest but still made as a little fanservice nod. In that same vein they could've made actual Classic Shadow as a skin and it wouldn't matter if it isn't canon because fanservice doesn't need to stick to the lore, hell the only unique animation that Classic Shadow needed is his "hover skating" running animation, so it's not like they've would have wasted too many resources in something like that.
Sonic Superstars needed little things like these to attract more people after it failed to reach sales goals but these decisions are so baffling.
Not to mention the LEGO skins which are based on their modern counterparts
Well, the rabbit character (I call him Reto Maximus, Quinton Gray 14; credit goes to him for the name) did appear in Sonic IDW, so... he's canon.
Specifically in Sonic learns how to drive.
@@reggielacey2235 I'm not saying Superstars failed, but Sega acknowledged that it felt a little short in sales expectations, which is unfortunate but I hope it manages to sell more if they cut the price eventually.
Lore-wise, considering classic sonic met shadow in generations, and superstars takes place after it, the idea of sonic cosplaying as shadow is funny

@@BingoHighway Definitely not only one timeline. I think modern sonic never experienced sonic mania, or sonic superstars. If that's the classic sonic from generations going back and having a different timeline, the canon should be intact. Otherwise, yea everything is fucked

I care about canon and lore. Lots of people do. But I will say that making a "Classic Shadow" skin is perfectly acceptable. It doesn't have to be canon and the costume itself definitely can't be canon either. Regardless, I'll go back to my corner now.
Have people actually been complaining about this outfit breaking canon? I haven't really been paying attention to fan feedback, so I wouldn't know if this was a genuine complaint among fans
@@dmk_yt I don't think so. We can make the difference between fan service and canon material. The question is does sega make the difference as well? Them putting this costume indicates that they weren't confident enough to put the real Shadow in a game as a non-canon cameo.
I agree that non-canon skins would be fine, but you know if they went all the way with a non-canon yet official Classic Shadow skin fans would demand even more for it to become canon than they already are. I'd say the onsie is meant to be non-canon and a silly fun way to give Shadow fans what they want without giving them false hope that Classic Shadow is a real possibility.

@@Argorox I honestly do not believe the people you are talking about exists, or at least not in substantial quantity. People who love Shadow also care about his backstory and what makes him who he is, which is something that's very distinctive from the other characters and makes his core appeal. Breaking that would be breaking part of what makes him a unique member of the main cast.
I think some people would want to see more of classic shadow as a cameo. However, I will give you that the risk of Sega misinterpreting that hype as wanting Classic Shadow to be canon is a very real risk, so perhaps you are right in the end.
People wanting Amy in the movie is why I think they should've done a Metal Sonic movie first. I know Shadow is way more popular but having Amy in 3 as her introduction would feel off.
At this rate her introduction will be in the 4th movie assuming there’s even going to be one.😂

It’s stupid how they can’t just have Shadow like a proper costume. Technically so far they’ve only done this with the LEGO Sonic pack and that was fine (Amy just swapped her dress with her modern counterpart so that’s why I’m not counting it). We shouldn’t have to worry about “breaking the lore” because it’s an optional costume. It’s like in the Batman Arkham game and Insomiac Spidey games where you can make them dress as different versions of the characters but they’re not canon anyways so go nuts with playing as Adam West in AC or Raimi Spidey in SM1
no one's saying that adding classic shadow as dlc is bad, the problem would be if he was in the main game and his story was treated as canon.

Well, considering they did that already in the game with Feels the Rabbit aka Sonic’s prototype, it’s not like it’s an unheard of concept. Plus they apparently treat the LEGO character pack as separate characters as well

@stephaniejohnson5361 What do you mean? Sure, she didn't do a lot and many things could have happened without her. She added depth into Shadow, though as their relation showed that he wasn't just an edge lord. She also had fun moments with Knuckles. Same for Amy, she added depth into the cast, and in today's world where it's important to have male and female representation, they both can add a lot into the story if done right. I know people want Metal Sonic, but personally, he feels out of place in the Adventure 2 plot (he might take away from the actual plot)

The whole "Break the lore" excuse is pretty lame, they can't put Shadow in Superstars or Mania yet Amy's allowed in all 4 classic Sonic games, Tails is in 1 and CD while Knuckles is in 1, CD and 2 thanks to Origins? Shadow wouldn't have any bearing on the story unless he's in animated cutscenes.
Shadow and Silver would be pretty dope in Mania.

That’s because Amy is a main character Shadow isn’t because they want to put her in all four Classic Sonic games along with adding Tails in Sonic 1 and CD, Knuckles also in Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and CD, and Amy in all games since she wasn’t playable in all of them along with Tails and Knuckles not being playable in Sonic 1 and Sonic CD.

They'll probably do that with Shadow, they've made him bate for years knowing he's very popular then they finally decide to properly use him.

I think I get it, kinda. The game it’s advertising is “Sonic x Shadow Generations” so the skin is a “Sonic x Shadow” skin… this is still beyond stupid though. I mean if “lore” breaking was an issue, what the hell does the LEGO skins mean? What about the Rabbit skin? Or hell Modern Amy? SEGA, don’t you dare tell me those are canon too?! Are we going to be seeing LEGO characters in the games going forward?

Real talk, this is one of the few times where I'm more amused at weird Sonic news than angry. Yeah Classic Sonic in a skinned Shadow fur looks dumb af, but its so funny. And Classic Shadow basically would've been the same thing to me. So not all too bothered personally, but that's just me.
I'm a little disappointed at Ritter Rouge being deconfirmed, cause I think that lowkey had potential. But seeing her as an actual human is far from a bad thing for me lmao. As long as she's in an interesting role I guess. A Topaz type character where she banters with Rouge could definitely fit her also.
If we even get Rouge.... which I hope so. Not having her would feel off. But again, it's gonna be so funny to see her make it before Amy.

Honestly, I’m not even against the idea of having shadow be represented by a costume, but if you’re going to make it that it’s just a character cosplaying, you might as well go the full mile, and make it look like a crappy Halloween costume for comedic effect.
Have stitch marks, a zipper, make the hood look too big for classic sonic. Just something so that it doesn’t look like shadow suddenly has a blue spot on the front of his face.

First, clearly SEGA did this because they don't wanna break the lore, EVEN THOUGH classic shadow didn't existed around the 90s. DOESN'T MEAN YOU YELL THAT THEM FOR DOING THIS, it's just that he didn't appear at the time when Sonic was literally being born in the early 90s. Second, I expected Amy and Rouge to be in there, when the fact that clearly they appeared in other games around the franchise. Third, am massively surprised that Sonic Dream Team came in for a update, even when it didn't had a update, the game is still great for being the amazing sonic game. Fourth, I was so shocked that mania is getting on mobile devices, expect it's locked from Netfilx, but that's still cool that it's a official. Logicly, I think SEGA had a hard time thinking what the fans what, and they mess up sometimes, but hey don't feel bad, Sonic X Shadow Generations is still coming!

I love Shadow, he's my favorite character, but I DO NOT want to see him in the Classic Era. Reason being because he's so popular I don't want him to take the spotlight from underappreciated characters that are locked in the Classic Era. Games like Sonic Mania and Sonic Superstars are great opportunities to give forgotten characters like Fang, Mighty, and Ray time to shine. And it also gives legacy characters like Tails, Knuckles, and Amy bigger roles than what we see in the modern games.
I'm telling you right now if the actual classic shadow was added to the game there would be another war in the fanbase
we don't need another "classic" character where they don't belong because it's just gonna confuse everybody and sonic team is gonna try to clean up more stuff that didn't need to be there in the first place

I don't think a Classic Shadow model would work somehow. And of course in story wise, Superstars takes place before Adventure 1, and Shadow was introduced in Adventure 2. So During that time in Superstars, Shadow was still in his cryo chamber, and her won't be released until Adventure 2 when Dr. Eggman learned about this.

I dont get why they act like they care so much about the lore yet they keep fucking it up with stuff like sonic swapping between 2 different worlds with one human and the other not human, or classic sonic being from a different time to a different dimension, and then i think back to a different time?? This seems great news and it was a bit of shame that Krysten is not playing Amy and Rouge in the third movie. Update is ok but still android users is still not happy that they never get an android release. One last thing is that they finally Mania being on mobile devices however I have seen other people decompiled the files to make it work on Android. Great News except Mania and Dream Team. Also Sonic in a shadow suit looks sick.
