I've been enjoying your videos since the beginning and I can relate when you refuse to fall in trends just because everybody else does. Please always stay true to yourself. Usually after few years I loose interest in watching plant UA-camrs as it becomes all about selling and promoting to the point that often ethics are compromised. I'm pretty advance in anthuriums game and fell in the collective hole at some points but got put off by people's greed. Your attitude is rather long lasting and healthier in my opinion. I too love to decorate with my plants and enjoy what I have and their journey. You know your lines and stick to it I love that
Thanks, I appreciate that. It’s important to keep it real.:)
I love how you just accept and work around Bradley. It’s so precious. ❤
42:51 - Completely agree with your general mindset surrounding plants. I’m also a ‘grower’ and not a ‘collector’. If they don’t like my conditions, then tough. I refuse to expend a lot of time and effort on heroic measures. Give me the beautiful basics any day.
He’s just part of the crew 🐈:)
Bradley is part of the process 😅
I really enjoy seeing people who have struggling plants, it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one trying my best and not getting any results
LOL! 😆 “I need to cut these little leaves off because they piss me off” 😂
Nail it ! I was listening to you and i had aha moment.... now i know why i keep watching with joy your channel since your beginnings: You are different, its not about the new plants you received like all the others but it's about your journey, the education you are giving us each time since the beginning, about tips and tricks to get our plants healthier, bigger and stronger...Frankly you deserve all the success....May be Craig Milran was the founder of mosspole But YOU are MY teacher for me !!! thank you !
Your content is real. Relatable and reliable. Don’t change anything as you and Bradley are the entertainment, and the plants the side hustle 😂. Seriously just do you. And don’t let anyone change how you go about things unless you feel it’s beneficial to you and the channel. I totally agree the planting hobby is individual and personal and stuff goes wrong, it makes it even more relatable. Anyways great video as always sorry for the long message ❤👍🏼🌱 ps we adore the Timelapse content.. 🛒
Thank you 💚💚
Love your pov on growing plants. Not just “collecting”! 🛒
When I first started my plant hobby, I definitely fell for all of the hype-did so much hardcore research into the super science-y aspects of plant care and then got overwhelmed and felt like I wasn't doing enough, felt the pressure to keep buying new "rare" plants that didn't bring me joy after a few weeks, collecting just for the sake of collecting, etc. If I hadn't found your channel when I did, I 100% would have quit the hobby years ago. You're the only plant-fluencer that I really felt "gave me permission" to chill out lol, and I found myself being more passionate about my plant care than ever before because I wasn't afraid to experiment and fail, didn't beat myself up over things dying in my care (or lack of care lol), and felt so much more satisfaction in caring for and watching my smaller collection really thrive. Thank you Jan and Brad!
You are so inspiring, by far my favorite plant content creator. I love your commitment to staying transparent about how you take care of your plants and keeping the hobby accessible! The part about how you use tap water was so awesome to hear
Thanks for watching & I hope I can continue to inspire 😊
I loved watching this video. Great job reporting them all. Love to see an update in a few months to see how they settled in to the new potting mix.
I think you nailed it, in terms of the "plain" green aroids not being at the show. They are at every garden center, big box store, grocery store, gas station ... 🤣 And they are *cheap* here. And they are much more attractive than their variegated counterparts. Some of those look sooo sickly. Cheers from Iowa
I’m with you! I love growing and spending time with my plants. It’s so rewarding even with things that don’t grow well, I’m always learning new techniques 😊
Thank you:)
Being at home with a nasty cold (Winter is coming), I just enjoy listening to you sharing your thoughts while shaking all the lovely plants into their new substrate. I share your opion on quality over quantity. Germans have a saying: ,,Weniger ist mehr!" = less is more. I restrain myself from buying obsessively. I cherish the plants I have, they thrive on my attention and enhance the esthetic of my home. Besides, having too many plants creates a problem if you want to travel for more than a week!!!😉
🛒🛍️❤ loved it as always
Agree with your plant philosophy - anyone can buy a plant - growing and learning brings joy and satisfaction
I love your videos and have learned alot from you. I got into climbing plants because of you. I only just started on my moss pole journey I have 6 so far with 4 more coming soon!! Thank you for always being yourself. Much love to you and Brad!
Thank you:)
In love with this loooong repotting talking video, because 1. it’s looking, 2. with lots of roots in frame, 3. with lots of nice talking!!!
Thank you very much💵🛒🛒🛒
Thanks! 😊
When you mentioned water for your plants, I use water conditioner for aquariums in my water( it works for live fish right lol), they add so many chemicals to our water. The water conditioner has been working great. I add half a cap for each gallon of water. It's great because you can get large bottles of the water conditioner for fairly cheap.
Interesting!! I will look into it :) thanks :)
@sydneyplantguy of course i hope it can help, especially with the more sensitive babies you have
I use it as well. I can smell the chlorine in my water sometimes.
@maryperry5910 I have the same issue with the chlorine especially after alot of rain. The stuff has been a game changer
Really appreciate your encouragement and dose of reality check for any indoor plant growing enthusiasts. Climate change is making it a challenge for many skilled outdoor growers as well and this will also impact indoor growers too. Those who are in this hobby to grow “instagram ready plants” are going to face losses even with making great sacrifices. When that happens those of us growing plants for the learning journey with lots of moments of joy and some disappointments will be ready to welcome you back into the circle of trust. Thanks for sharing your unique perspective and it sucks that someone got shamed via social media for the outcome of a particular plant; after all these plants are NOT growing exclusively for our enjoyment, they have a greater role to fulfill on this green globe. 🛒
What a lot of work Jan. you make it look easy. I like your approach to the plant growing hobby/lifestyle. Bradley's help is always very cute 🐈
He does love to “help” 😂
Thank you/ Good job and I totally agree about what you say for variegated plants. Very often they looks not better then not variegated forms.
🛒 loved listening to your chat while cleaning this morning Jan! I love how you've become more open to sharing your thoughts (I don't think you'd have admitted to being nervous about nasty comments back in the day), and so down to earth. Good for you ❤️
Thank you:) definitely getting more comfortable over time :) having build a great community on here definitely helps :)!
Its so important to keep it real in this day and age and you my friend are one of the realest youtubers and ive watched you from the very beginning. Keep being awesome! ❤❤
Thank you so much :)
Thank you 🛒 This was the perfect video for washing my plants 🌱🌿🌱🌿🦠👍👍👍
All though it’s autumn here, I loved seeing your dedication to repotting in the spring! Thank you for that content. 🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒
Thank you:)
Really like listening to your train of thought. Really appreciate your attitude about not hoarding plants. We all learn so much from you.
Thank you so much! That train derails every now and then and I go way off tooic but glad the message came across :)
Skipping my Lecture, slow morning and doing a deep clean of my flat plus a long video GOALS girl
Enjoooy !!:)
same but i already got my bachelors 😂
You inspired me to repot my lone anthurium today and made me feel less bad about how awful it looks! Here's to better luck with it from now on. 🛒😹
Oh my gosh! I love when I (a Canadian) decide to stay up late to play with my plants and discover you uploaded just 20 minutes prior! Thanks for the long chatty repot! I agree with much of your opinions on plant parentage; jt should be fun! I have gone through my own reevaluation this summer. We moved and much like I have struggled with new space, light, air flow, etc. a lot of my prize plants suffered. I had to eventually admit that it wasn’t fun with some of them. So they went to friends, or I started them over and it’s ok! I do love anthuriums. It’s one genus I’ve gotten into this last year. They can just be so deliciously dark and velvety.
Aaah! This was EXACTLY the kind of content I was hoping to come back to after vacation! Sat here doing g all my plant chores while chatting with you was fun! 🎉🛒
Love doing our chores together :)
🛒I enjoyed every minute of your repotting video... Especially your rambling on about how you feel about collecting verses growing plants. I too get Joy from seeing other people's plants and I can't afford to buy plants like other people do. I have mostly succulents because they are a lot cheaper and I propagate to sell and be able to buy different kinds of them. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have more plants than I do but all good things shall come. Meanwhile I will continue to enjoy your beautiful plants and all of the ones that you take us to see. I enjoy seeing Australia with you and would love to see more because I have always wanted to go there but probably never will be able to. Keep the great entertainment coming my way. Thank you for sharing your life with me 😊
I want to get into anthuriums and this was inspirational. I especially enjoyed you cutting the stem to prop. Can’t wait to see what happens. I too love to cut off ugly leaves. 🛒
Loved you video and enjoy the chit chat. I ended up getting my crochet projected worked on while listening to your tips, tricks and opinions. 🛒 I am enjoying my little forgettii and flamingo flower as my beginner anthuriums ❤
Happy growing!! 😊
I don’t have any anthuriums but I couldn’t pass up a chance to spend two hours with Jan, while drinking my Sunday morning coffee ☕️ ❤🪴
I feel like that was a workout! A very cool collection ❤
Bradley is just the sweetest boy!
It definitely was a workout !! :D He's the sweetest !! :)
Just love watching u Bradley ur soo real an funny wth it whilst showing ur viewers ur beautiful collection x
Thank you:)!
Thank you SPG for all your videos! Love them! Have you thought about a „no drainage experiment“, especially with anthuriums? I’d love that!
I’m trying it with alocasias :)
I am one of those people with non of the same plants as you. I live in Utah, a very dry region and it's so relaxing watching beautiful things I can't own. I would not even want moss poles, I love trailing plants. But who cares! you are one of the content creator I watch most, you, Linda Vater and Benji.
That is awesome! :) so important to grow what actually suits your conditions :) thank you!!
I agree, sometimes just visiting a garden is soul healing and the plants are living their best life! Where can I get a gardening apron like yours? 😊
🛒 Thank you for giving me two evenings of continuous plant talk, it's always refreshing to desensitize to 10 seconds TikTok videos of plants
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I definitely use plant tags! I also have all my Hoyas listed in the “notes” section of my iPhone. I only have the name of the Hoya on the tag. I don’t keep records of how much or where I purchased each plant. I do remember a majority of where I got them. I only put a date on the Hoyas I propagate.
I love your long videos I can have a cup of coffee and just listen to you talk about your plants and watching you care for it and watching your cat still the show from you. Lol 🌵 😅❤
Perfect coffee time activity! 😄
🛒 definitely have fallen prey to the collecting rather than growing aspect of anthurium but after losing countless amounts of seedlings I am buying larger plants much less frequently and nurturing them. You have a beautiful anthurium collection!
Keep doing what your doing! Dont change for others 🛒
Your'e definately correct about the algorithm because I have never been recommended a short of a time lapse from you and I have the always bell selected. 🛒
They are doing us dirty !! 😂
I definitely love that you speak your mind 💚
You have some beautiful anthuriums. I do love anthuriums, and I really dislike variegated plants. I fell in love with philodendrons because of you. I love all the tips but most of all seeing you grow your plants has been a joy, and let’s not forget the real star of your chanel Bradley 🐈♥️
I completely agree with you about variegated plants and all the hybrids that look all the same to me. I buy species mostly but there are several alocasia variations that i enjoy. I’d get a variegated Frydek though, those are pretty. Anyway, my favorite thing growing plants is starting with something small and growing it up large. Fall is rolling in here for me here up north and some of the larger ones are getting voted off the island and into the shrubbery or compost pile in favor of a propagation. I was thrilled to find a variegated rubber tree (there I go contradicting myself) in a tiny, tiny 2” pot. Now it’s in a 5” pot and it gives me such a thrill to watch it grow. I bought a ficus religiosa in the same size and that tree will eat a village one day. Not yet though. I grow something that i haven’t tried yet, i keep the ones i like for as long as i like them. I give them away or toss them into the compost pile if they have gotten ugly and i no longer care. Looking at you philodendron birkin. What an ugly plant when it gets big. It’s now in the shrubbery and growing down there but winter is coming!
Anyway, i enjoy your videos for the inspiration for how nice a plant collection can look in a room. I have decades more experience growing plants but I’m pleased to hear you repeat sensible advice and expose the
nonsense for what it is. You do know what you are doing. Thank you!
🛒Enjoyed seeing your anthurium collection. I had been thinking about adding some potting mix to my aroid soil for my anthuriums going forward, so this was a confirmation of my process. Thanks!
🛒🛒 love watching your videos. It gives me peace of mind knowing I’m on the right track with my hobby
I watched it all , reminds me we are not perfect &still learnt heaps
2 of my anthuriums are on the struggle bus. My veitchii I suspect has root rot, and my crystallinum has no leaves but great roots. Definitely lots to learn from 🛒
Good to see you found your "inner peace"
🛒🛒🛒 really enjoyed watching your anthurium repotting Jan! Always enjoy my morning coffee with one of your videos🙌🏼
Thank you:)
Hi Jan, I believe the plant you called a birds nest after the veitchii is a gracile. It would make sense as a freebie as they self-polinate and are relatively easy to grow. Its pretty!
That would make sense :) I hardly remember what the mother plant looked like tbh 🫣🫣 it’s been sommany years !!
Bradley keeping u company lol
He’s a darling❤
All look great!!
And some very huge leaves!!
🛒,🐱so good looking!!
💚🌿🍀🌵💚
🛒That was a very fun watch since I just picked up my first anthurium at the grocery store for $12
🛒🛒 I tried putting this on as "background noise" while I do my own planty chores...ended up watching most of the video 🤣
That’s the spirit haha!:)
🛒Have you though about using Pon and a self watering pot. I started my plant hobby by watching you and i get alot of comments on my plants because of your videos. However I found that I was heavy handed in watering my plants and they suffered when I went away on holiday. I have started to move some of them to Pon and self watering pots with great success. I find it saves me time as I don't need to water the plant as often and the plant takes as much water as they need. When using a self watering pots I found the ones where they have a removable inner pot with a water meter the best i.e. elho is good. They sell the inner pot separatelly so you can use you own outter pots. I would like to see you experimenting with a pon substrate.🛒
I tried it about 3 years ago & was not a fan! Also VERY HEAVY which I didn't like :) but might experiment again with an alocasia
That papillilaminum dressleri is making me jealous! I have a pap, but I really want a dresleri. Now I have something cheaper to turn to.
I am with u ,I much prefer the green and dark green anthuriums, Great videos TYou!
Thanks so much! :)
Thank you for this video ! It was quite relaxing to watch.
🛒I myself am a collector. Or is it accumulation ? Well the more the better. But never expensive plants. I have a cat to feed with my money.
I'm here for all the opinions, plants and Bradley 😸 great video Jan, I'm just getting into anthuriums but am very limited with space due to my monsteras and philos😂
Love watching u repot ,Wow !! I love all your antheriums,
What is your Tassy substitute for tree fern fibre & does Tim sell it ?
🛒 This is so nice and relaxing to watch you going through your repot and share your experience. That gives me energy to repot the many plants I need to repot. This week end I will do some more and maybe some poles. Thanks Jan and for calling out the serial buyers 😂 have a great rest of the week ✨❤️
Have a great repotting weekend !! :)
@@sydneyplantguy thank you ☺️
I would love to hear you talk more about making nice displays. What are strategies for different plant types? How do I need to start out to get the nice displays? I would like to do this without grow lights. I want my plants to look nice without having to change my conditions too much. Thanks!
Check out my ‘plant styling’ videos :)
I just got a Anthurium Villeanorum
And the hurricanes 🫣🫣🫣
I wish I could like this video more than once!!
Hehe thank you!:)
Once again your video has helped me keep the day moving! (Helped me get through inventory today! Lol)
Idk about everyone else, but I often keep a list of things to mention so I don’t forget them in my response to you. Lol - Must be the type A in me.😅👏🏾
-We do love our variegation. I’m not sure why, but we readily can get the green forms of plants and let’s be honest, variegation sells right? People (myself included) like the challenge.
-Re: “Plant names for marketing” - that is so true! I’m also in the fish tank hobby and some of the coral have such crazy names and everyone wants the coral that no one has so it totally makes sense.
-I was literally chanting “CUT THE LEAVES” when you were deciding what to do with your plant! LOL!
-Topics to discuss: Maybe like greenhouse cabinet ideas (how you decid which plant goes in and your layout), ideas on what to do with the lower half of a chopped pole (do you keep it and let it keep growing, make little cuts and propagate, etc), maybe how you got to plants in general (have you always been into nature growing up or did you stumble across it and dive in)
-When people respond negatively, it says more about them. My mom always says you can’t reason with foolish and the people who get it will see you!
-Love the Pokémon references! Lol
Another wonderful video! I always enjoy watching, listening and learning about you and your plants! Until the next one! Give Mr. Bradley some scratches for me! Let’s go shopping for some anthuriums!👍🏾🪴🛒🛒
-
Thank you so much :) love the note keeping hehe :) happy growing !!
🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒 another great video Jan, and Bradley is a star as always!
Thank you:)
🛒
Loved to listen to you while doing my own planttasks today
Thank you :)
Ahah! Trying a new mix in all plants in the same time 🤣 I can laugh, I did the exact same thing last weekend when I repotted all my plants into a new mix I'm trying. No half measures 😆 this comment is not a recommendation!
Velvet dark leaves are beautiful, I understand so much, my cat love to much plants I can have toxic plant 🫠 I had to give up my philo for this reason. My favorite plant no toxic plant is my Calathea Warscewiczii this plant have full velvet leaves and very dark leaves I love it !
I am grower type too. A small plant with two leaves, I just want to give the best environment and care to have a fast grow and beautiful big bushy plant! I love walk in the botanical gardens to see beautiful plants, but I don’t want all, just see in a fantastic environment triving made me happy!
Again a very nice fun video, I like listen you when I work like a postcast 😆 repotting or watering the only difference is the background sound💛🇨🇦
I know you just said you don't wanna make videos of you buying a new plant but if you did like a tour video of of a box store in Australia I would absolutely enjoy it I mean you don't necessarily have to buy a plant but just showcase what you guys typically have available
Have done a few shopping videos here & there but they aren’t that much fun for myself tbh :/ it’s just not that exciting to me :D
Good video to have on while I do my own plant chores
Enjooy :)
🛒 Great vid as always! Hi to Brad! (Loved his tail popping up throughout! 😅)
Thank you! He loves the camera :D
I'm other way around where I feel like I've got the couple of Philos that I wanted and a new one would have to be extremely special if it were to be added into my collection (oh wait, rugosum aberrant form and polypodioides might actualy be it), the same with Alocaisa. Don't get me wrong, some of them look fantastic and I love to appreciate them elsewhere 😊 Monstera and Anthurium are on my top spot, followed by a highly variable list of other plants.
My checklist for adding a new plant: I like it and its growth pattern, it either looks nothing like my other plants or I'd like to see the differences, it has a chance of surviving in my care. And all of them mean nothing if it ends up annoying me for whatever reason 😅
Haha so true! Some plants can just be ‘annoying’ 😅😅
Love the anthurium videos. I can’t wait to see you Delta Force mature. It’s my dream plant. I ordered one from the UK and customs destroyed it and the replacement. 😢 I’ll live vicariously through yours
Oh no!!! Maybe third time’s the charm?:)
@@sydneyplantguy the seller feels differently. I waited for over 4 years to finally pull the trigger. I figure I’ll wait another year and they’ll be $20 and everywhere.
🛒thanks for motivating me to repot my anthuriums!❤❤
Happy Repotting! :)
Oh my goshhh no way! I just hopped on!🫶🏻 much love Jan & Bradly🥰
You’re in for a ride haha 🎢
I was guilty off wanting all the plants but as time has gone on I have figured out more what I like and recently been giving away some plants that aren’t giving me joy to friends. It’s a hobby should be fun and I am want easy not different water and feed for this one and that one that just stresses me out. I love monstera and really got into philodendron over the last year prefer the larger leaves to look full without having hundreds of small leaves to fill the space though I do still have a few Hoya I love! This is just my opinion though as you say x🛒🛒🛒
Love your approach :)
Thanks Sydney enjoyed
🤑🤑expensive too!! I'm with you, not the most exciting to grow, Not a fan of the growth patterns. Maybe you could tie up the leaves like you do philos and it'll reduce their space.
🛒 Thank you for another awesome video. Love the long videos even though they are so much work for you. Being so new to my planty hobby/addiction, I felt like Anthuriums were above my experience level but now I'm tempted to jump in. We are heading to the Collectors plant fair this weekend in Maitland and I'm sure AJ is bringing some so it might be time ❤
I’m sure she will :) happy growing :)
Hi Jan, just a thought...if the tree ferns in Tassy are anything like the ones in Victoria, their redish fibre is like the old fibreglass insulation...crazy ichy ! We transplanted a few, and I remember how irritating that fluffy stuff was getting everywhere. Hope it has better water retention properties. They all looked so much better repotted, and I'm appreciating my lovely 18/19 overnights, way better than 12! Glad to be here in central Queensland. 🐱🌴 I couldn't find a shopping cart!
Haha yes I think it’s the TF that got me all itchy … probably because I have a lot stuck in my beard by the end of the video hahaha
🛒 I love pruning back ugly leaves :) They look better and they fit on the shelves better!
🛒 Love watching your videos and seeing your plants. Always love the vibes and just seeing you and Brad.
I cut my collection of Hoyas (I know you don’t like them 😂) from 280 to 160. I’ve learned that I don’t need to have all of them and that I can just focus on what I already have. It’s been such a joy seeing the progress plus I’ve actually gained a new appreciation for the more common Hoyas. 🫶🏼
🛒 loveeee long long vids to play while working ❤
🛒🛒🛒 Hello from NJ. We are going through a bit of an early cold spell and my garden looks very tired. Love seeing your lush plants. It bri g me so much joy🤩
I hope winter won’t be too bad for you! :)
I'm in Taiwan and I also like your UA-cam channel.
Thanks so much! 😊
Shopping 🛒!! Love your videos!!
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! :)
What a great and enjoyable video! Really is great listening to your thoughts while doing some work. Anthuriums definitely are the "it plant" at the moment haha so I agree with everything you said. Yours will surely explode with growth now that the weather is better and they have new homes 🛒
Thank you:)
I have two Anthurium in my collection maybe add 3 more thats it😊 your Anthurium collection is gorgeous so many🥰looks like you repotted so easy watching you it makes me feel out of breath like i am doing the work lol😅 😅😅 thank you Jan for you hard work and taking us in your plant journey🛒🛒🛒
Thank you:)
so many whise words :) i think the buying is not what brings you long term happyness. the work, the progress and the reward of growing a plant, is what brings you real you. "money cant buy you happyness" is not just a saying ^^ also the thing with "too much afford" i see too. i enjoy my long leggy philos, where i have no time to build moss poles. i enjoy the ones that have one and i enjoy my growlights, but i am not willing to measure PHs X) not yet.
sendig out some love
🛒🛒🛒🛒 love your content! I always forget about the seasons being at different times for north and south hemisphere lol
🛒 loved the video! Gives me confidence to get choppy with my ugly leaves.
✂️✂️
South Australia is either getting over 30° days and warm nights..but tonight..Thursday..its raining and have storms to the North of me.
Starting my poles tomorrow..based off your videos.
Started propagating Pithos, Philodendrons, and Monstera today.
Bradley is absolutely gorgeous and steals the show. ❤
Also would love to know the best way of attatching a Syngonium to a moss pole pleeeeeease
Happy growing :)
Thank you for pointing out your mustache situation in your short 😂 that way I got to enjoy the video even more when I came back to it 🛒
Glad you enjoyed haha :D
🛒🛍️I absolutely love you videos and I’m finally at the point almost 2 1/2 years and I think where I don’t just buy Plants because they’re pretty I buy them because I actually want it in my collection.
Now I’m at the point where I’m also going through my collection and getting rid of what I don’t want anymore 😅😅.
Quality over quantity 🙌
@@sydneyplantguy very true Jan!! That’s what I’m finally learning. When I started, I just did purchase after purchase after purchase.
I also love buying baby versions of the big plants. I love and grow them just like you do :).
The mustache is serving my friend. And yes I needed to be called out on the plant overconsumption 😅 thanks
🥸 😂
