Visually, Shaman King looks stunning, but in terms of actual animation, I really hate Studio Bridge now, first Fairy Tail and now Shaman King. 😭

Am I the only who thinks that Romi Park was better voicing Ren in 2001 anime than here. Here she is trying super hard to have deep voice. It does not sound like her at all.
In the original, it seemed to be a perfect Ballance between her normal and deeper voice.

Technically both, as they are planning to remaster the episodes released + to continue, as the original anime didn't finish where the manga finished. I am personally Very disappointed with this remaster... The story is extremely rushed and they are even showing flashbacks from things that have happened in the original but haven't in the remaster (like the flashback with the spirit cave, that did happen in the original anime and here, they just showed some stupid flashback like we wouldn't notice). It's atrociously bad.. the animation is worse than the original Shaman King and the character designs are extremely weird and out of proportion (They made Ren look ridiculously tiny on his horse and Trey's proportions are way off wtf...) It fell from an amazingly promising anime and story, to a Yu-Gi-Oh commercial crap kind of level... My personal recommendation is that you skip these episodes entirely and consider the original Shaman King as the canon and you can pick this one up once it continues after the fight with Hao.

Shaman King Brotherhood
The old version is faithful to the manga for the first half then it diverges. This is a remaster via latest generation art work, animation and it's following the manga completely until the end. It's good so far but old anime was way more impactful, soundtracks, angles, details and so on. 2021 version will start to become important when we get to the new stuff.

Do you think the English dub will bring back Sebastian Arcelus and Andrew Rannells? Or at least one of them back? I mean, by virtue of being licensed by Netflix, it will be a union dub, so they can afford them.
I doubt it and I’m frankly hoping that it’s a new cast.
The animation during a lot of the fights is indeed pretty stiff and powerpointy, but keep in mind that anime nowadays is often broadcast in an "unfinished" state. With rushed schedules, low budgets, and the animators often having to work on multiple projects, less than stellar results are pretty much what you're going to get, at least during the initial broadcast. It's by the time the shows are released on DVD and Blu-ray that the animation is as "finished" as it's going to get.
For instance, the animation in the 2016-2017 Berserk series was obviously crap, but it did at least get some small improvements when the show was released on DVD. For instance, in close-up shots where characters are walking, the character models in the broadcast version were simply moved up and down to simulate walking, whereas the character models in the DVD release actually had a walking cycle during the close-up shots that matched with that seen in medium and wide-angle shots.
Yoh and Ren's first fight, and Yoh's fight against Lee Pailong had some pretty good animation, so there is still at least some potential for the animation to improve. Even if the other fights aren't as well animated, that doesn't necessarily mean the animation isn't salvageable.
Then why bother to remake it in the first place if its done so poorly?
I will give you the answer : because you can sell and market this series just based on its nostalgia value. The production know they can do this as cheaply and badly as possible, and fans would still flock to it because "nostalgia feelsgoodman".
No need to sugarcoat it. Shit is shit. I love the series, but i really cant justify this remake.
@@steventok1471 It's not like it's the animator's fault. It's hard to make anything good when you're not given the time or the money to do so. Again, surplus of projects to work on and not enough time or money to do good work on all of them is going to lead to poor results. It's the producers and the studios that should be blamed. Give your animators plenty of money, and plenty of time to do their work, then you won't have to worry about an unfinished mess being turned in for the broadcast that needs to be finished up for the DVD release as the series is still being broadcast. We've seen potential in the first few fights. If all the fights could look as good as those, we would only be complaining about the rushed story which, as with the first half of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, was already adequately covered in it's first anime. I think we should hold our judgement until this new anime reaches the half of the story that the previous one didn't adapt. If the story is still rushed, and the animation is still crap by the time the series reaches that point, THEN we can say with confidence that no one cared.
You're right on everything besides "low budget" lol. Im pretty sure the costing is the same for any other anime out right now, it's just..like you said, animators not having enough time and dealing with a tight schedule.

Honestly original anime is better and it's faithful for the first half, at least we are completely finishing with what we already know in this quarter. The new stuff will begin starting from episode 14.
@@malicumalicious Alot of the JP Va's of the shaman king 2021 anime are the original VA's that voiced in the 2001 anime. The creator of shaman king made it a condition that the original VA'S reprise their roles in the event a new shaman king anime was made.

I hope they only doing so fast with the plot to have the ending better done, back in the day show caught up to the manga and they had to make their own ending, the manga finished way later. That's why they even make this remake, because the endings were so diffrent.

Nah, you're praising the original way too much. Seems that you've never read the original source, the manga. You'd see there that a lot of parts of the old anime are filler. Like the first two episodes even contain filler stuff. They dragged out a lot of the parts of the story, even up to the first 15, they have a lot of filler moments . It's actually not that great, even tho some of the filler moments are memorable and fun. The Lily 5 never existed in the manga, so a huge chunk of "traveling to America" arc is filler. The ending arc is almost entirely filler and contains little to no cannon. While this new adaptation is making the manga 1:1 or leaving out little parts or chunks of the story, or quickly going over more od the story elements, but it's way more truthful to the manga, it's adapting the story with no filler, just cannon. But it still, of course has flaws, the pacing is too quick, it's kinda bland in that sence, but it has an amazing sountrack, beautiful color pallette used, great VA's and... Well the animation can be better, that's for sure, but they've done justice to it in the places where they could do it. Like this Ren fight, the first Ren fight, the first episode, Hao's awakening, some small parts of Lee Pyron fight, episode 4 with Tokageroh was pretty well, with not a lot of epic animations, but consistently okay, episode 5 has few good scenes, episode 6 and 7 held some decent animated moments and episode 8 as a toned down episode still held up pretty well with the animation.
So, all things considered, neither the old anime, neither the new one are awesome, but they have their great moments. The old anime had a more talented animation team, but I feel like this rant went off for a longer time then it should have. So nothing, have a good day.

the original anime is trash tbh, too much fillers and hao got turned into a mostache twirling generic villain, go read the manga and see why the character design changed from the og anime, take changed his style drastically when he returned with kanzenban, also is being rushed so they get to the new stuff quicker, also I agree on the animation not being as good as the original but its getting better, hopefully it will be way better later. But yeah so far I, as a manga reader of sk, am loving the show so far, some things to complain but not as much as with the original. Im currently watching the original, this one, and re reading the manga, and so far, aside from the manga, this is a good telling of the story, no fillers, straight to the point and to the good stuff. And if you have read the manga, you know that there are so many opportunities for the characters to interact once they reach the island. I cant wait for it honestly and for people to go like they did with black clover and love it at the end.

They tied up a angle spirt, and was wiping it. Still don’t know why. Some characters were pointless waist of time. Yoh fought a guy with the spirt of his boxing couch. That character never comes up again. Why was he in the story. I could go on. Manga was shit.
