I'm just starting to learn english and I get so excited when I see the notifications of your channel, I can undestand all your jokes, and your pronunciation is pretty clear too.. Keep working like this...
With all the SUVs I've compared throughout the years, the Odyssey puts them all to shame in terms of family practicality and practicality in general. Period. Good review....again. Your comment about conspicuous consumption was well received. We currently own a Toyota Highlander and I can give you plenty of examples of friends and family asking me questions about our "van".
I absolutely love these humor filled, straightforward, and authentic feeling reviews, there's simply no one out there who does them better! Thank you Tom!
I currently have the previous generation Odyssey, and I'm glad to see that they corrected one of my complaints. In my van, the middle bucket seats lose their armrest when the center seat is taken out. The new middle row seats have built-in armrests on each side, which I appreciate.
I used to have an SUV but trying to get little kids in the back is a pain. Also the lack of space Tom mentions in the pilot was my other gripe. What good were all those seats when you couldn't bring anything with you. Vans may have a negative image but I'm positive I'm happy.
I have had my 2018 Odyssey for less than a month and it has been in the shop for half the time. It has had radio problems since the day we got it. Honda tech support is working with my dealership to figure out the problem and after changing out the tuner for a new one with updated software, still broken. According to my service person, my Odyssey is not the only one having this problem.
If I ever have three or more children, getting an Odyssey will be a priority for me. Until then, I'm still a sedan person at heart. Crossovers don't make sense to me, except when the owner has real environmental need for AWD. And even then, the Sienna has AWD. If you want utility, minivans win every time. And you can't even make the sportiness argument, since that acceleration clip in this video is impressive. All that, plus a minivan will be easier to park than an SUV.
Sliding doors are great, until they break. My dad’s got a 2014 Sienna and the passenger side sliding door hasn’t been able to close on its own for a year, and nobody including the dealer can figure it out. If there weren’t three kids and all our stuff in my family, we’d have something like a Ford Flex, which has plenty of passenger room and it’s low too, aiding ingress and egress. The only problem is the comparatively tiny trunk, and of course the fact that they don’t make it anymore.
People are such copycat crowd mentality creatures. That's the only reason I can imagine why small to medium SUVs are the go to vehicle for families. There is absolutely NO comparison. A minivan is the ultimate in convenience, comfort, and practicality.
kadad5220 I just bought a new Odyssey. I drove both and the handling, acceleration, comfort and safety rating is hands down better for the Odyssey. The Odyssey is stunningly silent too and railroad and pot hole infested roads are almost unnoticeable. I used to have a 2014, but the new one is amazing. I’ve owned a 2008, 2013 and 2014 Honda’s Odysseys and that’s buy far my favorite one. LOVE IT!
Tom I noticed that with your new camera, the tail lights no longer show yellow hotspots like they used to. The red light and glow is much more natural, looks great. Which camera is that?
I'd sure rather purchase a Toyota or Honda product, but the _efficiency_ of the Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid makes it the *only* choice I could be ok with if I bought a minivan today.
Remember when Odyssey has mean design? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Oh and it's entire look almost the same with SEA Honda Mobilio. I don't understand Honda's design language these days. :(
Sorta late to this review but theres some things that car reviewers everywhere have totally missed out on.. namely some poor design choices that make you scratch your head. #1 - they moved the air vents from the top to the middle (2nd row, right by the sliding doors and 3rd row right behind the 2nd row seats). In previous models, not only were you allowed 360 degrees of angle on the vents but since they are higher, it allows for better air flow. More specifically, this has outraged families with rear facing car seats - since this blocks the air to the child.. lots of stories of little ones being too hot. #2 - If you couple all this with the fact that they removed the rear AC condenser you've got a lot of cases where people are going to be hot, especially in the 3rd row. Also, this means that the front AC condenser is now responsible for handling all that cooling and if you are in the front - people have reported it being way too loud. Are there no people at honda that have small kids and live in some places in the U.S. that receive nearly 9 months of hot summer weather? It was in the mid 90's (heat index above 100) for nearly a week straight recently here in central Florida. #3. They removed the rear speakers for all models except the Elite trim. #4. No more Lanewatch. I know you could argue that its unnecessary but I have found it to be extremely helpful, whether on a road trip or at night. I have a touring 2016 model and i didnt get the Elite because the Blind Spot was hard to see in the daytime and with the radio on - was hard to hear. In other words, not usable at all. I would much rather have visuals on my surroundings. At least give people the option of picking a trim with it over the Blind Spot. Is Honda turning into cost friendly vs family friendly?
Nissan Quest is terrible and ugly. In Japan you can get the Black version, called the Elgrand. VIP models available too. America gets the terrible basic ugly version. Worst van in N.America. No one buys the Nissan Quest.
Yes, other than the fact he weighs twice as much as I do, and his hair is the color of sherbet, and he has white raccoon eyes, and he encourages violence against journalists like me, we're practically twins.
@@DrivenCarReviews Well I'm not sure about you being a real journalist, but I have never heard him encouraging people to hurt journalists. Although I've heard him call some journalist "fake new", and that might have hurt their sensitive feelings, but I don't think that is considered violence.
@@Santu1939 I have covered a lot more than automotive over the years and have put my life at risk more than once doing it (not that either of those is a threshold, automotive writers can be excellent journalists). I will not go down the rabbit hole of politics. But The Donald has openly praised Greg Gianforte for assaulting a reporter in his bid for Congress last year. He has mocked a NYT colleague with a physical disability. He jeers the press at rallies and fans the flames. He sets the tone. I'm not talking about "hurt feelings", journalists typically have incredibly thick skins. I know news crews at rallies that are screamed at simply because they are in the press risers (and this is not just CNN). Some don't feel physically safe. Would you tolerate that kind of behavior towards friends and family? Hopefully not.
@@DrivenCarReviews I have never seen or heard of journalists being assaulted or harassed by Trump supporters, however I've seen anti Trump people assault Trump supporters, destroying properties. Maxine Waters openly called for harassment to Trump supporters and his cabinet's members. I've always thought Americans are very civilized and educated, but the democrats just look like a bunch of savages. Also, the media always shows how the immigrants to like Trump, but the truth is there are lots of immigrants that love him.
Your reviews are by far my favorite. Keep up the good work
Hes so polished. and I agree with you
I absolutely agree with you 😎

Awesome Marcos! Glad I can help in my small way.
My wife drives a '14. It is a super car for anything. We still take my old Bentley for longer trips but I like driving that van any old time.
I love the evil twin, it gives a playful dash to a very professional and serious review, both entertaining and informative, as always!
You know you're just feeding his ego....

It's the best choice in the minivan market, it has the best record on safety & reliability
I own a 06 odyssey and love it, wish I could afford to upgrade..I'll will drive it til it dies..
CLMDADE well if take care of it, it may never die.

I'd buy this Honda in a second if it had all wheel drive and a little more ground clearance.
CalsVidsKids u dont really need awd like most people.
I really enjoy watching your videos, Good job!

Ironically... Crossovers are getting smaller more SPORT oriented??
While Mini-Vans are getting SUV Size like...
Possibly your best review yet!
Tom, another great review. Keep it up as your reviews are the best for the average buyer / family out there.
Good review. I juat picked up a 2018 elite last night.
Special props for the script on this one!
Hey Tom. I agree with you regarding the interior and cargo volume.
Tom, you're the champion!
Great review... Im strongly considering getting one
Is intake valve carbon buildup much of a problem with this engine? Thanks
Very good , well presented car review - as always. Hello from Kirkland!
And hello from across the floating bridge. I come over to your side every so often to shoot in new neighborhoods.
Love your shooting locations!!!

Tom, I would love to see you review the Honda jet. That would be a cool review as only you can do them. Seriously!
I'd have trouble getting exterior running footage.
Love the evil as always awesome videos 👏🏾👏🏾
Do you think they'll come out with a plug in hybrid version like the Pacifica?
cool for the vacuum. If I were the engineer I might think about adding the air pump function to this vacuum for the next generation haha
You can never go wrong with an odyssey
Just make sure the second row is secure...
Don't know why you're not on the NYTimes any more (miss you), but glad to see you here.
Thanks Andrew! For now NYT is doing less automotive content. I have a few irons in the fire...
Really miss you in the New York times
1:57 funny seeing real driver in reflection. His face says it all.
1:55 reflection
duhh
which is better Odyssey 2018 or Sienna 2018 and can you comment about transmission system for both ?

Hmmm, same camera. Still waiting for the right 4K camera to come out.
U review is so good and carwow but Ur car review is so good u review all the cars but they dont

I would add styling to efficiency...
Agreed the Pacifica looks quite nice... for a minivan. Thanks, Tom!
I’d factor depreciation. I’ll never own a freaking Hybrid ever again!!!
You could have watched “Arthur” starring the late, great Dudley Moore.
Then I would have had to run out and get the DVD...
Ha! Awesome film!!!
nicely done
Please review the new expedition!
(By the way love your videos)
Ford is not good about getting press vehicles to me so sorry, it will be a long time, if ever.
Remember when Odyssey has mean design? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Oh and it's entire look almost the same with SEA Honda Mobilio. I don't understand Honda's design language these days. :(
Thanks, Tom. Must be your twin giving you thumbs down...
I feel like I'm driving a spaceship to be honest
A generator would be needed for the plug in in the back.
please Honda , bring us the Freed , Freed+ and the Jade
Paddle shifters in a minivan?
For engine braking on long downhills or for predictable revs and shift points when driving in snow.
Its still a V6 and these things are actually fairly quick so it kinda makes sense
Great video. Please ask Honda when they're going to make a hybrid version and Toyota for that matter
Don't hold your breath Bryce
This should look sleek if the window line is straight.
Buyer beware of inferior Honda Odyssey transmission failure. You've been forewarned.
Love it
when is the new Sienna coming? It is long overdue
Best I can tell you is that it just got a refresh... again. That generally signals it will be around for a couple more years.

My car....
The Nissan Quest doesn't exist?
Worst van on the market
My 2008 Quest is the best looking minivan ever, including today, IMHO. I hated the 2011 revamp, though.
Origen17 Nissan has confirmed they are killing it off for the 2018 model year.
Nissan Quest is terrible and ugly. In Japan you can get the Black version, called the Elgrand. VIP models available too. America gets the terrible basic ugly version. Worst van in N.America. No one buys the Nissan Quest.
Red rear indicators are bloody stupid.
JFCW drink more ale and worry less mate.
Hate the look of body side swoop and the side glass swoop at the rear.
I have the same car
Why are you reviewing this car ??
2019 Bentley continental or 2018 Range Rover autobiography
Because more people buy this car. And I haven't had the chance to drive the Bentley or Rover.
It’s a solid option...that entertainment screen is ridiculously small.
It's about the same as anyone else's.
i know the design isnt the priority in a van but this a mess of a design i thought the last gen odyssey was the best looking van. Now its kia i guess
9-speed transmission? Meh, this is so 2014. Seriously, should not Honda simply use a CVT?
tote the tater tots
And I'm assuming you have a spotter, but every time I see you cut those corners in the suburbs I cringe a little...
what's wrong with "hardcore" rap? whatever that is
"Schlepping the young ones in a Range Rover" - have you watched Big Little Lies? Eight Emmies, by the way.
Don't watch TV much. Too busy making it.
I wish I had as strong willpower as you...
Tom, you just don't get it! Maybe some day.
Get it...?
Get what?
Great review but it’s beyond belief ugliest
soccer mum's boring car, so embarrassing
1st.lol

That 'Thing' Would easily win my award for the ugliest car of the year. Inside and out. Makes my skin crawl.
Dude this is the Odyssey not the ugly ass piece of shit sienna. The sienna is ugly not the odyssey!
