Talking Watches With Spike Feresten

- If you know comedy or if you know cars, you know Spike Feresten. Spike has been a mainstay of the American comedy scene for upwards of two decades - getting his start as the receptionist at Saturday Night Live (where he earned the nickname "Spike") before becoming a regular writer for SNL, focusing heavily on the then Dennis Miller-hosted Weekend Update. He would go on to write for Late Night With David Letterman and eventually end up as the author of several of the most iconic episodes of the most iconic sitcom in history. I'm talking about Seinfeld, and Spike's episodes include "The Soup Nazi," "The Wig Master," and "The Muffin Tops," just to name a few. Like I said, iconic. For the full story, go to www.hodinkee.c...
Finally an episode with a regular guy who doesn't know everything and doesn't care. He just buys what he likes and I can relate to that. This is definitely in the top list of episodes.
Brandon Rebuck except he isn't regular guy at all :)
Tom Pax well for this show he is haha.
Brandon Rebuck I thought this episode was fantastic. He had a collection of watches that many would be within the reach of many of us, not just grail watches and unique pieces. Don't get me wrong, I love the John Goldberger's of this world but I thought this was very refreshing. As someone else said, he didn't know everything but didn't care.
“Everybody deserves to own a cool watch”, this dude is the man, my very favorite talking watches episode
''How did you get into watches?''
Well, when I got money, in the first place.
He's one of us.
A rich humble guy with very good taste.
Cool guy. I like the fact that he admits not being a watch expert but is genuinely interested in watches
This episode is the most wholesome episode of Hodinkee Talking Watches. No inflated egos or talk about the inner mechanics of watches, just two guys talking about their love and passion for watches. Hodinkee needs more of this.
"Don't you just feel better when you have something nice on your wrist?"
Ben: "Yes I do" as he casually wears what appears to be a nice ass Daytona
Classic Heuers, classic Porsche's... I know a man of culture when I see one
My day is better having listened to this episode. I’m pumped to buy another watch. Whoa dummy, you just bought a new watch last week.
"Everybody should be able to get a cool watch" Damn right, I appreciate that. Cool guy, really nice collection.
I'm a simple guy. I see Talking Watches, I press like.
But we're still waiting for Archie Luxury's episode
are you serious? whats he got to talk about? 3 or 4 dull watches everyone knows about! why do people always post this like hes some kind of impressive collector?
Its about sharing the love for watches, not who has the most impressive collection. It might not be impressive to you, but it is impressive to others.
nickpap1 Other than the vintage Daytona I'm not into his collection. However, I love his passion for all of his watches. Why does everything have to be a dick measuring competition these days? I am fairly sure he has enough capital to have a box full of Lange, Patek or possibly GF duel tourbillons..... It's all about what makes each collector smile. Who gives a f*ck if he has a Nike?
I was just making a snarky comment man, it's all good in da hood.
Gotta love this guy. You know you've made it when you get on Hodinkee to do "Talking Watches".
Very enjoyable episode :) LOVE the collection, wouldn't mind any of them :D
Anyone else feel like this episode was a lot more natural?
itsKibble Talks Watches I share your impression. This guy worked on Seinfeld, so It could only be good.
it dose feel very natural. seems Feresten really enjoy his watches and not a collector for the sake of it :) most of his watch acquisitions are based on some important event in his life/career so i think that brings more joy to him wearing these watches.
For sure! That's because Spike is awesome
itsKibble Talks Watches totally agree, seems like a super cool guy, I love all of them
Yes Sir!
Spike seems like such a cool, down to earth guy who just likes watches. Shows that you don't have to be an expert to be able to have a nice collection and enjoy fine time pieces. One of the best episodes so far!
Now this is a collection I can relate to. Just buying watches you like, not claiming to know it all and not giving a damn. (I just got the Pelagos LHD and I'm right handed), very very cool and my favorite episode yet. Keep it up Hodinkee team 👍
Best episode in the series. I always come back to it.
Same
Great collection, better guy. Someone who seems to have a good balance to his life and collection. Seems like a good dude!
Best episode of talking watches yet! Very enjoyable. And that Tudor Sub, wow 👌
We dont see too many Lecoultre, Piguet, Constantin, Glasshute Original, etc. on this show but we sure see a lot of Tudors, Rolex and Heuers!
I have seen every Talking watchES episode,no one has a Glashutte..
i think its an American thing guys. Dont worry they are still world wide stunners! Needless to say you know where the second hand market is for these pieces,
Félix show us your collection
Félix 😎
Really enjoyable episode. Spike seems like a great guy to hang around and he's very unassuming about his collection. Keep up the great work!
What a cheerful guy who knows what he loves. Kudos to hodinkee
Spike is a cool guy... watches and porsches, great combo!
Car and watches - perfect combination 😍
Loved his stories! I used to rep Nike watches and still have quite a few so it was cool to hear he collects them.
I love the part of Nike Watch, made me literally laughed... such a guy..
Cars and watches. What else do we men have? Love it. Great episode. Lots of happiness and no women in sight.
iimaniDAVID You forgot fine wine!
But the watches will remain and the cars will be grounded within a decade, unless these are converted to electric... the new hole in the market = converting classic cars into electric... if one wants to ride them after 2030
Motor Cycles ?
You dont have rosegold cockring? Every man should have one.
Cigars are pretty nice too!
this guy is great. what a personality.
Well rounded collection, not a dog in the bunch, all the motorsport essentials, classic divers too. Guy has great taste in watches as well as cars. Speedster not a replica it seems, WOW.
Nice Collection. Really like the balance of new and vintage as well as affordable and expensive!
Great episode! Went by so quick, I had two watch it twice!
u can tell spike loves his life!
Who knew writers got paid enough to have a stable of classic porsches. Nice touch with the Beetle, showing off those Porsche 911 roots.
That prototype Nike was actually low-key gorgeous!
That thing about waiting for the day the date is finally correct, well, I don't mind with the good quickset ones, then its fast and easy, but the non-quickset date, I do wait for the next month to come around before I war it again... Also I have a Enicar day-date who has a finicky quickset date and no quickset day, thats very rarely used because it takes so much time and effort to set it...
Great vid! Big fan of spikes work! I too dream to be on HODINKEE talking watches with Ben clymer haha!
Benjamin, why do you sound so depressed when you're about to introduce your guests?
Has become his trademark. Kinda hilarious
Hes just a humble guy
Rude
Great episode, really fun dude with a great collection!
What a fun person. Wonderful episode
Oh come on Spike! No mention of that Land Rover?!! Series one or two? It looked immaculate, gorgeous...
Hodinkee should make more of this! I've seen every one.
Nicely done, really enjoyable to watch!
Great episode, also love the LandRover in the background. Maybe I'm biased because I have one also cheers
Those Tudor are astonishing !
what a nice collection, very nice tone pieces well thought out!
Cool guy, informative talk!
I love this ep!
Great episode love the work he's done the car and watch collection.
You can keep the Porsche, I'll take the Land Rover. Great video and a great collection!
that steel nike watch is a beauty
I love Autodromo! I love the automotive base and as a huge car guy myself, I want one so bad. Unfortunately as a teenager, I'm only in the $200 and under range.
This is my favorite episode. 👍🏻
Watched this vdo a couple of yrs ago ...nothing interesting.
Came back after two yrs after getting into " old things".. and seen a lot of collection,
Now this makes sense.
Love it.
Never liked motor inspired watches. Never appealed to me.
Now i crave for them.
Very nice watches and very nice cars.
Nike watch....pure class for a watch collector
Love Spike!
Haha, I was the 911'th like on this video. Suhweet!
You guys should do an episode about insurance and the different kinds of coverage that you can get or should get for your watches
I have a variant the Heuer reissue he mentioned and a variant of the Autodromo he showed. Yay
Great video. Quite a collection.
great guy !
Oh those Heuer’s are just gorgeous 😍
Awesome episode
I love that people collect the watches that they love. Price has little to do with anything.
he looks like a skinnier older nick swardson lol
Oh man. Great episode.
Any man who has classic Porsche cars... I trust their opinion on quality.
Super awesome episode!
Great watch and car collection! 👌
In ten summers...we're all dead.
Great interview! At least, much better than that terrible excuse of an interview from another watch blog.
It’s true. My wife bought me a lovely GP for our anniversary and even wandering around the house in a pair of shorts, I feel special. She on the other hand has to deal with a half naked middle aged guy with a weird grin on his face…but hey, it must be love, right?
Shalom Ben, I'm glad to see you're doing and eating well. I'm off to buy some nato straps and limited watches of your site to support my man. Say hello to Kevin Rose, I wonder if he's still not drinking/drinking coffee - I've lost count of how many times that guy has jumped the bandwagon.
so happy to see the Tudor Black Bay Black on here. will you be doing a week wearing one video @Benclymer?
Great.collection
He's got some reasonable collections
Came for the Heuers and Rolexes, stayed for the Nike Mettle Drill
car and watch is amazing
That watch bos is amazing? does anybody knows where can I get one of those?
Dear Ben,
Hire me to produce the audio for your videos. The quality of the content is begging for quality sound...
Cheers
Great video. He seems a top guy!
first talking about watch i like all his watchs ...chronographs watchs are my type
1:24 what's the squareish blue one? looks interesting
Maybe someone can explain to me, but I feel like fans of watches tend to be fans of Porsche. I was a huge Porsche guy long before I was introduced to watches, but I see a lot of the talking watches guests also being fans of Porsche
Please interview Andrew Zimmern, i love his watch collection
Can someone tell me how guys like Spike Feresten track when their watches need to be serviced? Do they maintain an excel with dates when those were serviced last? Please someone I am curious to know. I know it's 5 or 6 or 8 years wait but how does a collector who has a dozen or more manage it. Or, they just hire a watchmaker for a week every 5 years and get all done in one single batch( the last line was a joke , by the way) :-)
To say that everyone should have the same watch in their collection is completely missing the point of having a collection.
When you can match your watches to the car you're driving that day.
Love this video!
Can you please have Magnus Walker on the show? He's a huge porsche collector and mods them, making, "outlaw builds." He is also a big watch collector. Please get him on.
Tudor is the new Rolex
NO WATCH FOR YOU!
lol
Good episode
Can anyone let me know what case he’s keeping those watches in? Looks great!
Why didn't I watch this back when it was originally posted?? Doh..
What doesnt this guy have? who ever has the most toys ...)you win already.
Nice one!
Yay! Finally
Don't forget people to enjoy your life because in 10 Summers were all dead🤣😪🤣
Nice talk, watches and cars
The price went up on that Nike mettle drill!!
