In this video you’ll learn the #1 Tip for reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn. I provide sample messages that have been proven to work when connecting with recruiters on LinkedIn. You will learn how to contact the recruiter after job application or resume submission, so you won’t have to worry about writing those cold messages again!
Recruiters on LinkedIn are usually bombarded with connection requests and messages from hopeful candidates, so how can you stand out when you reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn?
I share the best tip that has worked for me and many people in my community (Facebook group linked below), followed by the 3 steps that’s needed to make it work, as well as sample messages so you can see exactly how I went about it.
So the next time you connect with or message recruiters on LinkedIn, make sure to write messages using the structure I provide in this video! Whether you’re sending a cold message or sending a follow up note after applying for a job, you’ll be able to get the recruiter’s attention.

As a recruiter I can provide one piece of advice for LinkedIn candidates: PLEASE include your resume and contact information as soon as you respond to a message. This immediately sets you apart from other people who want to have protracted conversations before including their resume.
Thanks for the pro tip for the viewers D!
Are you saying after they connect with you or on the connect request messgae?
As someone said, do you do this even if you initiate the conversation?
Getting pretty annoyed with the recruiters on LinkedIn lately - some are rude and call 3-4 times in a row.
Just stumbled upon your channel Jeff and love your content! This video was also brilliant. Solid advice and now saved in my 'career' folder. :)
Appreciate your work and time in putting out such good quality content.
Hi Elif, thanks for the kind comment!! Glad you found this helpful 😁
This video got me to my final round interview for a software engineering position at Shutterstock. I'm getting so much value from your videos Jeff!
All that's left is a team culture interview with the team (45 mins), and an executive chat with the senior director of engineering (30 mins). How do you recommend I prepare for these?
Woohoooo congrats on the final round! That's amazing! I would say for executive chat, prepare smart, strategic questions to ask. Because they'll love talking about those topics the most :)
Just an update Jeff, I got the position!! Your advice was super helpful man. Keep it up, can't wait to watch your future videos :))
@@rawadkaram8011 Wow this made my night! Congrats Rawad! I hope you like the job!! Hopefully won't lose you as a viewer but extremely happy for this next step in your journey 😁

One of the best videos I have watched this year on recruiting. Thanks Jeff.
You always come up with suggestions so unique among others, but meanwhile the suggestions are really practical! Thank you Jeff!
Will definitely apply the suggestion to my job-search process!
Thank you Kuan Hua! Yes I definitely aim to find these "gaps" that most videos/articles do not talk about. It's something I wish I could have had access to when I was still in college :). Best of luck and let me know how it goes!
Glad that UA-cam algorithm brought me to your channel. It’s so incredibly informative and it pushed me to work on improving on several areas in my next job search process. Many thanks for such amazing content. I watched 2 videos and feel like binge watching few more. Needless to say that you got a new subscriber and admirer.
I'm glad UA-cam pushed my videos in front of you as well Muzammil 😂. Welcome aboard!
The tips in this video and your editing style are AMAZING! I totally agree with the idea of being upfront about why you're reaching out. If you want to be connected with someone on that team - it's best to be upfront about it! Thanks Jeff :)
Hi Brittany (if I spelled that correctly?) thank you for the kind words :). I just watched a few of your videos, love your energy!
@@JeffSu You absolutely did spell it right! Thank you so much - I really appreciate the positive feedback. So happy to see that we're also both Googlers, just subscribed!
Thanks a lot Jeff for these useful videos!!! I'm currently looking for a job. Learning your advices and tips just makes me feel I won't suffer too long from this tough job-search in 2020. Thank you!
Hi Nancy! That’s so great to hear, thanks so much for the kind words. You got this, you just need that 1 breakthrough and all the hard work will have been worth it!! 😁😁

Jeff, you're an absolute legend. Keep up the great content🔥
Thank you Neb!! Glad you think so 😉
Honestly, i found LinkedIn boring and mundane, but your videos are making it seem very powerful tool
It truly is! And glad to hear it Atharva :)
LinkedIn became my BFF after age 25 lol
Probably the best video i have seen. Struggled for too long and finally had made a template message myself. This is of great help.
Glad to hear it Nishant! Thank you!
Could you share the template message?
Yes and no. I work in staffing and recruiting as an Account Manager. We get requests from outsiders all the time, my recruiters get very annoyed when someone reaches out about a position but doesnt attach a resume. Recruiters are EXTREMELY busy so while building rapport is absolutely necessary, getting to the point right away is more valuable. The information in this video is excellent by the way.
Thanks so much Anthony! And yes I absolutely agree! The recruiters I know have PACKED schedules and need to know whether a candidate is worth their time or not!
WOW!!, this is GOLD!!, quite helpful for me at this point in my career. Thanks for posting these videos. While it confirms a lot of things I assumed, the best are the illustrative bits that take a bit of the anxiety of connecting with "strangers" away.
No problem, best of luck 😁
Jeff
You are awesome as always. I like how much effort you put into making these videos. I can't say enough; I really like your videos.
Glad to hear it James Bond 😉, happy to have you here!

Thank you so much Jeff. Your content is really worth it. It is making my job search more clear and professional.
Anytime 😁
You're awesome!! Thank you for taking the time to help us out in this incredibly competitive job market
Thank you Moe! You're extremely welcome 😁
Thank you for this video. I have been looking for a new job for the past 3 years using the old-fashioned way of just sending my resume and have not had much success. I actually found my current job by reaching out someone on LinkedIn, but I used my membership in a specific ethnic association as a networking tool, which worked out. However, I know that this will not be effective with everyone since they may not be a member of a specific social/ethnic association. I am going to utilize your method going forward.
Best of luck! Let me know how it goes 😁
Really valuable insights for a student like me who is struggling from networking to getting internship on LinkedIn!
Thankyou very much jeff! Your content is just awesome and you are the gem bro
Glad to hear it! Best of luck with your internship search 😁

Thanks for the coaching and advice Jeff! It's a very straight forward way of approaching recruiters without coming off as too aggressive. Avid follower to your content now!

This is so informative Jeff, at the moment I'm really searching and studying on how to reach potential recruiters on LinkedIn and land a job, I'm so much appreciating your channel. 👍👍👍
That's awesome! Glad you came across this video, let me know how it goes :)
This is extremely helpful! I've connected with some great recruiters. The one thing I will point out is that if you send a request you HAVE to put your message with the request. If you send an InMail, you cannot send a follow-up or thank you unless they accept and respond to that InMail message.
Good point! Thanks for sharing this!
This was amazing and a life savior!
That's great to hear, thank you Frances! 😁
I'm currently 3+ months into the rough of a job search and haven't gotten anywhere past the initial phone screening with a small handful of companies...I typically try to reach out to EVERY company I apply to, but watching this video made me realize my outreach has been a bit too aggressive/quick. I'll try to use these tips and hopefully they get me somewhere, thanks for the video Jeff!
Good luck my friend!!

Great advices and they are practical for even someone like me who wants to know the actual work for a post to develop certain skills. Thanks Mate!
You're welcome my friend 😁
Thanks for your guidance in navigating this perilous and scary jungle, with big looming animals around everywhere and if you make a mistake and step on a tiny twig at the wrong angle, someone turn around and will eat you alive. I really appreciate these scripts for guidance. While I'm socially intelligent and fairly extroverted in real life, I find the social choreography of these kinds of awkward social conversations with complete strangers utterly treacherous and can't overcome all of these unspoken rules that come with professionally talking to strangers on the internet. It's like it's own dedicated form of social anxiety, and it's a death trap. I simply can't act well enough to pretend it is the pinnacle of my life's purpose to work for a company that I never heard of til yesterday, and I don't know how so many people in the world just keep on keep on faking it and making it. I will be eaten soon, here in the dark.
You really are the best!!. Also, Thank you for the timestamps
You're very welcome 😁

Props for breaking down the psychology behind the reason *why* we connect with a recruiter the specific way that we do. Huge believer that context is key, especially when you're dealing with real people. There's a reason the button says "connect" and not "beg for job now!". Thanks as always Jeff, and if there's anywhere online I can leave a positive testimonial that would benefit your current projects, drop the link in a reply or let me know where to go. It's gonna be a good one 👍 - Marcus Melvin
Glad you agree with this approach Marcus! And thank you for the kind offer 😁

This is so helpful!! Thank you for sharing with us such well-crafted empathetic messages. How do you go about when trying to enter an industry that you don't have in common with the recruiter? How to connect when transitioning/exploring other roles?
Admit you don't have the experience, show them what you're doing to learn more (taking courses, reading industry reports) and start a conversation that way!
