At the end this one aged better than his Halftime Show last night. A shame he didn't perform DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love Again and Scream (also Without You). Major loss to the fans who watched the Super Bowl.
I guess it boils down to opinion. He was really intentional about his choices, according to his interviews. These two songs you list are from his more modern pop era. He tried to represent his whole career, but classic RnB happens to be his core identity as a performer. So, us old school RnB heads, especially from 2004 and earlier, ate this whole Super Bowl halftime show up. Can't please everyone :)
